Finally got GTL up and running again so I hope to be joining you for some of these races. I'm a bit rusty with all the settings but at least I managed to join the server  Smiley

Bathtubs at nords? How hard can that be?  eek

Back from visiting the folks at Alpha Centauri, eh Goldtop ?  Wink

Cheers,

I fear this will look like another desaster for me. Not able to count any timed lap yet due to crashes and/or cut warnings  Huh

Had a few laps now in various cars and still not sure what to pick  Undecided I'm much quicker in the Honda RA300 whereas the Cooper T79 is a nicer drive but feels very slow.

Having problems spotting some of the entries to corners at the top of the circuit which doesn't bode well but at least the cars seem to go in the general direction I point them which was always my problem when I tried GPL.

Noticed the usual coyness when it comes to laptimes  Roll Eyes Hoping 7:30s will give me some folk to race with  Undecided

Start went all stuttery for me so will have to look at my graphics settings for next time even though they were fine when I did a quick AI test.

Settled down but then lost concentration and hit a sign at the start of lap 2 which gave me wayward handling resulting in another visit to the scenery and a high speed collision with another sign making my little Cooper undriveable  :'(

Might have to have a look at my car choice for next time as the TS9 seems to the trainer car  laugh

Replay and results now posted.

My McLaren had a Ferrari dial  Angry Thought we had that sorted, ho hum. I went over a hedge and couldn't find a way to get back on track so I had a picnic.

Poll here https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?topic=13906.msg251391#msg251391 in case you had missed it  Wink

Thanks for the track hint Kurt. Didn't know there was a '67 version  Roll Eyes Please let me know in future if you find a better track than the one we are planning to use  thumbup1

Well done all finishers and well done Ziu, fantastic effort to finish.

Well was pleasantly surprised to qualify 5th way off Ziu and Erling but only a second adrift of Goldtop and Matt.

Had my usual start line drama and went from 3rd to 4th instead of 2nd approaching the 1st corner slammed it into 2nd lost the rear and Bob must have thought oh s*!t it's him again as I drifted across his nose and took the long way around T1 behind the barrier. Rejoined in about 8th Kurt let me through on the run down behind the pits with Clive in hot pursuit and made steady ground on Tony who then ran wide in the twisty bit between Hatzenbach and Hocheichen so was into 6th. Slowly caught Bob who then had a big moment at Hohe Acht so was back to my starting position of 5th  Had a moment at  Eiskurve and ran really wide, fortunately none of the trees I went through were real and rejoined thankful of that. Other than than made a bit of ground on Matt and Goldtop due to there own mistakes and on Lap 3 came across a recovering Goldtop at Angstkurve and had to take to the grass but kept it all together and set off in search of Matt but he maintained the gap (In fact increased it by a second or so) and that was how it finished.

Despite my original misgivings about these beasts I have to admit they are a lot of fun and credit to the original developers and anyone involved in making the GTL conversion I still think they are a bit too quick and (JMO) have a bit too much grip but that's just me comparing them to GPL and as I've never driven anything more powerful than Sierra Cosworth it's safe to say "I know nothing". Grats to Ziu and Erling on some very fast times on a difficult track.  My race was ended when my PC and the server stopped talking to each other.

My many years racing in GPL in 67 F1's counts for very little in these GTL variants, as has become apparent Roll Eyes.
The circuit layout was very familiar, although the scenery and my usual braking markers were different. I was perhaps a little conservative in my car choice, basing it upon my GPL experience where having a car that is predictable and stable is more important than outright speed.

As others have mentioned, the grip level in the GTL version is at least twice that available in GPL and as a result I find it very difficult to commit to the corners at such high speed. In GPL you would just not get the car to even turn in the sorts of speeds these cars manage without any drama.

Maybe Kurt's post about laptimes in the real world is an indication of that grip difference? The WR in GPL is around 7:40? from memory and getting sub 8:00 is considered alien territory.

This is not a criticism of GTL, we all have the same cars to use however fast ( or slow) they might be, it is just me making excuses for being hopeless!!  Wink

Well done all finishers and well done Ziu, fantastic effort to finish.

Thanks Tony, yes it has been very hard for me yesterday. I saw replay, if Erling not has bad luck he win the race for sure, because at 2 laps to go i was very tired and my pace was very down but we know that it was so here for me.

About qualy it s a pity 7:09 not was pole lap, 7:05 yes. In practice my lap was 7:06, it was possible on the third lap but with 20 minutes for qualy not was possible finish third lap. I sure that pole was 2:05 because i passed T2 with -2,9 seconds on my best and when i set 7:09 in Kleines Karussell I made a mistake so i think i lost 0,5 second at least. With my problem i wanted do first qualy lap strong rest second and third attack but 20 minutes here it s little time.

About race not pace for me, it couls be between 7:08 - 7:10 but my condition stopped me, until Karussell i could defend myself, Erling was very fast after Karussell but if him not got spin on third lap i never could win this race. The last lap i lost 10 seconds i not could turn my g27 more.

Run this race it has been good decision, your words helped me, thanks so much guys !!!!!!!!!!!

If Erling go to improve more and more the next season will very fun, Grats Erling.

Not so much to say about last night's race; probably the most intense and concentrated 5 laps in my entire GTL history - if anyone thinks it was easy running laptimes so close to Ziu's - even a somewhat incapacitated Ziu, then please think again   Smiley

Practiced hard; Nürburgring always becomes an obsession, as soon as I set wheels on it.  Last time, on Silverstone, Ziu had mentioned some setup tips and I decided to try something along those lines.  It transformed the car; it drove like it was on rails (but still entirely derailable, if you overcooked it of course  Wink).  With practice, I got down to 7:11 offline, so well pleased with a small improvement in qual.

Race itself was pretty nondescript, despite the intensity. Was 3 secs behind Ziu at the start of lap 3, but two small mistakes and one major one, where I clipped a curb in one of the blind S sections and almost rolled the car, saw me lose another 13 secs, to be 16 secs behind at the start of lap 4.  Drove as hard as I could for the remainder of the race, for the off chance that Ziu made a mistake, or was slowed enough by his bad arm.  Would have been interesting if I hadn't gone off, as I gained 10 secs on him before the finish, but alas, too little too late.  Can't compete with Ziu in the bad arm category, but still have my own problems presently, with a Tennis Elbow in my right arm.  Yesterday's race did nothing to improve it..  Wink

Grats to Ziu on a win despite circumstances, and to Matt for the final podium.  Commiserations to those that finished prematurely.  Btw, think we all deserve a pat on the back for getting cleanly off the line and through the first corners - seems the only one who had trouble was by his own doing  Smiley

Incidentally, I'm starting to wonder if there's a cosmic law preventing mere stupid Earthlings from beating aliens - being less than 0.4 secs away from taking fastest lap on a 7+ minutes lap (0.09%) is really getting your nose rubbed in it  Hit with a wet fish

If Erling go to improve more and more the next season will very fun, Grats Erling.

Thanks Ziu, but I'll never reach the alien level of you, Ati and the rest of the ETs.

Cheers,
Erling

No idea where I downloaded that 67 version  Huh Maybe GC but they are down. Found a DL over at Trippteam. I have several downloads on my HD.
But it's a conversion from the original GPL track to rf by Bud Lucas and from rf to GTR2/GTL by LKWFan. LOD here:
