Moderator's Report

SUMMARY

Dave Curtis wins the race in a Ferrari, also setting fastest lap, in front of Bastian Grupp in a Brabham. Billy Nobrakes rounds out the podium in another Brabham.

After moderation Billy will lose his podium and Ronnie Nilsson will inherit 3rd place.

A heartbreak for George Cheeseman, having electrical problems in the Ferrari while having a dominant lead. A very consistent drive that was not rewarded. Tough luck mate!

To be fair, the race had a messy start and none of the incidents were reported. There was some lack of awareness, lag and a lack of care that led to them. But I have to be consistent and will not moderate unreported incidents. In the future I might submit incidents myself, especially after the start on Lap 1, even when the Red Zone has been cancelled this season. On the other hand there was some wrong reporting, with the wrong driver names and times. Please report incidents with the right drivers involved, and the right server/racetimes, to avoid confusion.

All S&G were performed according to the rules.

Server replay time: 0h06m50s

This incident was reported by Ronnie saying Philippe was involved. However it was Fabio. Entering the tight turn before the chicane, Philippe passes Ronnie clean and Fabio looks to follow through when Ronnie, who was initially wide, steers back at the racing line. The cars touch side by side, they spin but can continue.

Fabio has no overlap whatsoever when Ronnie started to turn-in (06m52s). Ronnie had allowed Philippe enough room to make a clean pass and if you look at his in-car view he doesn\'t start to turn-in until Philippe is visible (06m52s) at which point all of Fabio\'s car is visible in Ronnie\'s right hand mirror. Ronnie went wide because he knew Philippe was on his inside, and then tried to get back on the racing line.

This was a too ambitious attempt to overtake. Since Fabio didn\'t have a chance to report back, the penalty has been cancelled. Please report carefully, Phil has made a useful page how to submit incidents at https://www.ukgpl.com/index.php/moderating/court

Server replay time: 0h07m17s

Bernie is following Francesco, when Fran goes wide into the last slow corner. Bernie sees the gap and goes for it, legitimately, and he also tries to stay as much inside as possible with a lot of steering lock. Fransesco went wide, giving up the inside and instead of giving enough room squeezed Bernie. The cars touch, Fran continues but Bernie is damged and loses a lot of time.

Fran reports he uses to approach that turn with a wide entry and a straightening tight exit. However when cars are close behind you can expect a car to go inside. Bernie sees an opportunity, and does nothing wrong.

If you give up the inside you can only take your normal racing line when the car behind not already has made a move. Francesco could have avoided contact giving room, when Bernie did everything right to stay inside. Use the sound also for judging where cars are, and when you are not sure it\'s better to give room.

Fran strayed onto Bernie\'s side of the track, he should have left Bernie more room.

Simple Side by Side contact: Penalty 1 Place - In a corner, after a legitimate overtaking attempt the cars end up side by side. One driver moves over instead of staying on their own side of the track. Contact is made. Penalty for driver that moves over.

Server replay time: 0h11m50s

Indirectly Reported by Billy and Philippe. Another example of a car going wide, and a car following assuming he can use the inside line. Philippe was quite behind, no overlap at turn in, but since Billy went wide (at the tight turn before the chicane) Philippe sees an opportunity, when Billy drives back on the racing line. The cars touch. Again it\'s similar to the first incident, and in a way also to the the second incident. Billy continues and Philippe spins and retires (out of frustration he reports).

Philippe did nothing wrong, he held a very tight inside line (the overhead view at 11m49s clearly shows Philippe hugging the kerb with the cars side by side). He couldn\'t have done anymore to avoid contact apart from not trying to overtake which is not something we want to encourage. So although I\'m sure Billy didn\'t intend to hit Philippe the responsibility for the incident must be Billy\'s. So this is another Simple Side by Side contact: Penalty 1 Place Scenario 4 because Billy strayed onto Philippe\'s side of the track.

In a corner, after a legitimate overtaking attempt the cars end up side by side. One driver moves over instead of staying on their own side of the track. Contact is made. Penalty for driver that moves over.

I am using W7, but one upon a time, I was installing my g27, and it did not install properly because I had plugged it in too soon possibly. Consequently, I uninstalled the Logitech software, deleted the Logitech folders that remained, and then uninstalled the drivers assigned to the USB ports. Then I started installing over again, and I was careful not to plug in the G27 before the install program told me.

I bit the bullet and did a Settings and Apps reset which seems to have solved the problem. Just have to get everything tweaked again and should be good to go ;DJ

Very bad race for me ,a fight with the framerate, sometime droppinig to 30 fps,and my brake that, without explanation ,unbalance the car breaking at high speed. The last unbalancing(at the last lap) cost me the 4th position at advantage of Nilsson.
I don't remeber but at least 10 breaking with unbalancement, that mean on the green.

My apologies to the Ferrari i tangled with at the exit of T1 on lap 1, I could not see you on the outside, I did allow enough room in case you were there but I was drifting wide too and I guess it wasn't enough room.

Anyway, I was minding my own business with a handful of laps to go then disco. Oh well...

I had not practiced much for this one. I did a couple of laps before qualification. I made more mistakes than normal. So I enjoyed it more than normal once I finally put a good lap together. I am just happy that I was able to keep improving during the race, and that I was able to finish. Maybe I'll spend a few more tokens at the next race.

*Tough luck George

Congrats Dave, Bastian and Billy!

Well, downloaded the track & installed it late last night & went for a few laps.
Then ventured out on the only server that was running it to check [ok, so was for an 'alternative' bunch].  However, that running with John Hammonds in his Lotus really helped for tonight!

Also tried the Brabham for a few laps earlier today;  but was 2 seconds a lap slower - so stuck with the Fezza.

Qually was quite exciting.  Did try another setup that gave a fairly good time;  but blew the engine after 4 laps - so gave that a miss [although maybe that was due to a couple of missed gears?].

I think towards the end of the session,   Bastian had pipped me for pole by about 1/100th of a second or so.  Was glad actually when he then bettered that.   1/2 a second slower is less annoying than 0.01 Smiley

I daresay that both of us could have done without that Smiley  Although, as it turned out;  not a big problem Smiley

But it sure made it more interesting being placed at the back of the field & that did fire me up for the rest of the race.  Was convinced there was more damage;   but really did not want to waste a reset / especially with a stop & go;  at a pit entrance that I'd  never tried entering before & wasn't sure exactly where it was Smiley

Luckily for me;  most of the field ahead span off at some point;  so I was able to inherit 3rd.
But Bastian/George were way ahead;  I figured I would not see either of them again.   Bastian must have had some bad luck, followed by more misery.   George presumably did too & was no longer connected.  So managed to take both those positions too.

Tried to keep tabs on faster Bastian & take it easy for the last handful of laps. That worked out at least.

Congrats finishers & podium. Commiserations non-finishers.   Good going Billy for 3rd;  nice haul of points there.

Cheers all.
Dave.

I wasn't really faster. Run Qualifing with low fuel.

Well Deserved Victory Dave, but really bad luck for Mr. Cheeseman. Nice speed.
After the start you two made no mistakes, I guess.

Best Regards,
Bastian

Tested again with the same setup and the breaking was absolutely comfortable and precise.
The drop of FPS could be an explanation of the breaking problem during the race?
During the race seem that the point for the blocking was higher but, pressing slightly, the breaking was not enough. So the point for a correct breaking was really a point without range.

I was having a good race with only a couple of minor offs until with 9 laps to go the button assignments (though not the axes) on my G25 stopped responding and I was stuck in 6th gear. Fortunately I managed to keep going though losing 10 seconds per lap.
This has never happened before and continues the saga of my G25. After doing a W10 reset it seemed to be working perfectly allowing assignments from within GPL but the next time I fired up the axes were already assigned and the button assignments menu unresponsive.
I was eventually able to assign the buttons via the Logitech Profiler and by using the W7 compatibility setting. This seems to be a problem only with GPL as the wheel works perfectly with newer games such as Codemasters F1 and Grid series
Hopefully I'll be able to get this sorted before the season resumes after Christmas

Qually'd in p4 , could have been better, had all sectors purple on my last lap but unfortunate to find Walter blocking the road with the Honda .

The race turned into another disaster for me . Got off to a good start then after the 2 fezzas ? collided and the car in front ran wide (Maltini  ?) I found myself in 2nd place behind the flying Bastian disapearing rapidly into the distance , It didn't last long as first Cheeseman in the  Ferrari  swooped past on the straight followed a few laps later by the Brabham of Maltini who passed me just before the bridge , however I got a good run through the esses and approaching the next hairpin Maltini ran wide . I went by on the inside but then he turned in on me spinning me into the barrier .
After allowing everyone through I was now dead last , tried to do 10/10ths stuff to catch up but began making errors , then my race was over as the engine went pop requiring a s/r & pit in .

Was fortunate to finish 6th after passing Mike in his slowmobile

Grats to the podiums and all finishers , great track for racing I thought . easy to drive but tricky to drive fast  Smiley

Well, that was a race to endure rather than enjoy, for me.  I'd done a bit of practice there during the week, and found the track to be very tricky at crucial points: namely, after the two fast sections, it was very difficult to stay on the track, due to hidden bumps / dips.  I started from 7th, slipped through the early carnage, and waited for the faster cars to come and get me.  Second lap (I think it was), sure enough I had a Brabham breathing down my neck.  On this track, there really are few places to pass if the car you're overtaking isn't compliant.  Rather than risk a collision, I didn't defend, but stayed on the racing line down into the under-bridge section, allowing the Brabham to slip down the inside.  I then took the correct line, only to collide with a second Brabham that had tried to tailgate through - overly cheeky, I felt!  Apologies to whomever that was - I knew you were there, but didn't feel there was a gap.  I'll look at the replay and submit my accident report tonight.  The rest of the race was pretty uneventful for me, except for spinning about 4 times.  Amazingly, I ended up 4th.

Royal mail on top form as always so im still waiting for my wheel  Embarrassed. after a read of the rules I had a cunning plan. its round five, so, I get 10 tokens to start season and just cross the line for 10 more.

I have lots of respect to those who only use keys! I couldn't do 500 yards.
