65s Funrace Santas vs Elves at Siverstone

By semi-popular  demand Santa vs the Elves returns to GPL.
As a wind down from the Christmas delivery there is nothing more that Santa & the Elves like more than to go racing 1960’s style.
This year Santa has challenged the Chief Elf to race at Siverstone.

The supporting cast (drivers) are asked to assemble in the UKGPL chat Room in IGOR.
Chief Elf (Cookie) & Santa (whose identity will be revealed on the night) will take turns to pick teams from those present.
Please listen carefully for instructions (but this doesn’t mean there is no room for a bit of pre-race banter).
The password will be announced in chat.

As tradition has it the Elves get to race the british green machines – Lotus 33 or BRM ,
Santa’s get a choice of the red sleigh (Ferrari) or the sometimes red Brabham BT11.

Drivers will score points according the standard system.
At the end of the race team Santa & team Elf will have their points added together to declare the winning team.
The event is unmoderated – but the usual high standards are expected.

Unlimited Shift R is allowed & there are no Stop & Go’s BUT each Shift R will cost your team 3 points.

Guess I'd better download the 65 mod, then.  I've never tried it.

You've only been missing the best part of GPL.

For hotlapping, sure, but online is a different game. Get in a pack of these at Monza running inches apart, side by side for the entire lap... that's what GPL dreams are made of.  Cheesy

65s are the best, you don't need to be a setup guru to be competitive.

Looing forward this

Looks like I won't make this either unfortunately.
I have last minute customers arriving around 9pm (uk) so they will more than likely force my retirement from this race before I even get there Wink

Joined the server ,no wheel  Shocked had to re boot re connect wheel and re join race then no  lotus set up  Shocked then missed the start due to faffing with gears and stuff , started from pit lane already 1 lap down , after a very lonely race and many many spins got to see the chequer waved .

The End  Grin

Grtas to the podium boys and to the winning team ( Elves? ) whoever it was could not possibly have won without me  Grin

Merry Xmas each & all  wheelchair

Struggled in the Ferrari, the balance was not good and overheated my rear tires at times. Lost touch with Tristan and Axel, also had a lot of stuttering mid race which didn't help for my laptimes, then the Evil Elf helped to get back my focus, before making more mistakes towards the end and dropping back...ran out of fuel and had to settle for 6th...sorry to let my team down...

Having some messy races lately, hoping it's not going to be a trend  Wink

Also a tough break for Tristan who led much of the race.. Great job Dean saving the day, as you say not bad for a 5th pick  Grin

Grats Axel, very consistent and well done Dean and Clive! Smiley Grats to the Elves who obviously won  Shocked

Lucky to be able to join this race & glad to have done, it was great fun Smiley
I managed to set a qualifying time good enough for 11th on race fuel & got away cleanly from the line, passing a couple of cars down the straight.
Jani went wide into Stowe & I took the inside, but Jani came back to the inside & we collided.
I could carry on without any apparent damage but lost some places. I lost a couple more at Club when I selected 1st gear by mistake.

I gained places due to others' mistakes, lost one due to my spin at Abbey, but I had loads of fun chasing Greg, Clive & Robert for what seems like most of the race Smiley

Grats podium & winning team Cheesy

We used to have team races in Groundhog league but this was really different. Having three or more team mates around and sorting out who is the fastest in the group and where should you go is really strange but still great fun Cheesy  Thanks all for the race!
Congrats to Axel and podium!

I did some math and have a provisional result without resets counted

Elves 193  :  Santas 151

WOW what a race, I allways stayed in 50 - 100m distance to Tris making little mistakes but had consistent good tire and engine temps.

So I waited for Tris to get problems, but he kept the pace til the penultimate lap when he blew the engine, shame!
Tris should have made a reset to gain more points...
