Great race for me yesterday; I loved the track and result was better than could be hoped for.
All the cars were nice here, but I liked the Mustang just a little bit better than the rest, so that became my choice.
Found it real hard to get below 1:14, but almost matched my offline pb of 1:13.5 in qual. Bogged down at the start and got jumped by Roger. Worrying, as I know he can be very difficult to pass, but luck smiled on me. A little bit of slipstreaming on the straight, and a late(r) brake before the hairpin stole the position again. Behind me, he was soon replaced by Bob. With his trademark consistency, I couldn't allow myself to make mistakes. Gradually built a gap, while trying to stay in touch with Geoffers in front of me. Ziu appeared to be gone!
Puzzled to find him parked in the hairpin after a few laps, after an apparent half-spin. Expected him to rejoin and make his way to the front, but then he left. Seems like a double downshift and blown engine in replay (I didn't notice the smoke during the race). Very bad luck Ziu - you seemed on the way to a certain victory
That meant I was now chasing Geoffers for the lead! He was too fast however, and gradually slipped from view. Quite lonely race from then on. Looked like I was gaining on him again towards the finish, but too little too late.
Grats to Geoffers for the win, and to Bob for the final podium place. Commiserations to those who met with fortune; not least Ziu and Steve. Seems like an honest mistake from Steve, and not necessarily one giving him an advantage, as the Mustang is hardly the quickest of the bunch. Can only speak for myself of course, but wouldn't object if the powers that be decided to show leniency in this case
Cheers,
Erling
