... but a thousand curses upon Erling for making me think he was a wizard on the brakes!! Although he must have been pretty good because he never went wide or stuffed it into the hay bales..............so he must know something that I don't!!! Huh

 lol lol lol

Sorry about the misleading Grin   Not much wizadry I'm afraid; rather more a demonstration of the 66 Ferrari's benign nature, allowing a dufus like me to abuse it like I did.. Wink

Cheers,
Erling

Well, it was with a heavy heart I bid a fond farewell to the Eagle and I have to say the Ferrari came as a bit of a shock. "How the hell do I get this barge to turn"? Not the nimble Italian Stallion I was expecting at all.

Initial laps were in the 1:04's and it took a complete evening to adjust the set up so that it at least gave the impression the steering wheel was actually connected to the road wheels. After replacing the front roll bar with a bit of string I found at the bottom of the tool box and substituting sponges for the front springs followed by loosening the diff somewhat I finally felt I was making progress, putting soft rubber on the front and hard on the rear and I now had a car I could throw into a corner and power through with the mildest hint of over steer.

I felt pretty good on joining the server until I found Ziu had been lying to us all and his 1:58's were actually 1:56's and I then realised that this was going to be a long night.

Qualified in 5th with a high 1:57 on race fuel sandwiched between Geoffers and Bob.

The lights went green and we were off. I find these really easy to get off the line when compared to their GPL equivalents and made up several places through T1 & 2 then seemed to lose all front end grip and started to under steer as we went through T3. Having to back off, brushing the barrier and losing all my momentum and dropped back to P7 by the entry to loop. Got back past Roguk on the back straight and then Tony ran wide into the final corner and I was back where I started by the end of the lap.

Set off after Erling and Clive who were having a ding dong battle ahead and was with them by about lap 4. It was difficult to see if Erling was being held up by Clive or he was driving the wheels off his Ferrari trying to sty in touch and the three of us circulated very close for quite a few laps, I was caught out a few times by either missing my braking point or being caught out by the early braking of the two in front. (Usually it's me scaring the bloke behind with my early braking antics). So I sat there watching lines and looking for somewhere I could possibly exploit later in the race.

Towards the end of Lap 11, Clive caught the inside curb at Big Bend and exited stage right with a bucket full of over steer and Erling and me were up a position. I was surprised when Erling didn't steam off into the distance, so yes, he was driving the wheels off the Ferrari to stay in Clive's slipstream. Made as big a nuisance as I dared over the next 4 laps or so until finally into the final turn on lap 14 Erling ran wide and it was then a drag race down to T1, I had the inside line and could hear him but dare not take my eyes off the road ahead. As we swept towards T2 he suddenly appeared very big in my mirrors ans I finally knew I had the racing line.

Managed to slowly extend my advantage over the next few laps while trying very hard to made some inroads into Geoffers lead who was around 10 seconds up the road. The gap between Geoffers and me stayed about the same and I slowly increased my advantage over Erling. By Lap 30 I decided I was going to throw it at the scenery if I continued to try to catch Geoffers so backed off a touch to maintain the gap back to Erling and hoped for a mistake by Geoffers but it was not to be, he extended his lead to around 14 seconds by the end and I managed to keep Erling about 5 seconds behind.

So a great race for me overall. This track seems to suit these cars really well and I had a blast as usual. Although initially a bit sceptical regarding these I've really grown to like them a lot and hope it's not the last we will see of them. Too much grip definitely, Too fast yes but oh so close to being just about spot on.
