Moderator's Report

SUMMARY

Pelle Buchner wins the race in an Eagle, completing a hattrick setting Pole, leading all laps and setting fastest lap. Sam Blood finishes second in a Ferrari after an impressive race. Tommie van Ostade rounds out the podium beating Attilio Artiglietti at the finish line.

Heartbreak for Robert Fleurke whose Ferrari got engine damage on the very last lap, demoting him from third to fifth. Honorable mention to Peter Antonsen who finished sixth in the BRM.

Almost a full grid, with more than 10 finishers, not bad for such a hard track. No incidents were reported. Well done.

Season 29 Works Trophy - Round 06 - Rouen

After the mid-season break we return to familiar grounds, to the great track of Rouen. Rouen-Les-Essarts was a 6.542 km (4.065 mi) motor racing circuit in Grand-Couronne, near Rouen, France.

From its opening in 1950, Rouen-Les-Essarts was recognized as one of Europe's finest circuits, with modern pits, a wide track, and spectator grandstands. The circuit (which ran on public roads) had a few medium straights, a cobbled hairpin turn (Nouveau Monde) at the southernmost tip, and a few blind corners through a wooded hillside. The appeal was greatly enhanced by the climb from Nouveau Monde at 56 metres to Gresil at 149 metres.

Rouen hosted five Formula One French Grand Prix races, the last one in 1968 resulting in the tragic burning death of Jo Schlesser, at the fast downhill Six Frères curve. The circuit continued to host major Formula 2 events until 1978, after which it was used for various French Championships.

This Season we don't have a Red Zone. Moderating will be on reported incidents only. If you haven't received a PM about an incident before the link below the results table is removed, you can be sure that you will not appear in the moderator's report.

Brabham is not my preferred chassis & Rouen not my preferred track so my only goal for this race was to finish & if I should set a pb too, great.

I held position through the first lap & just about held onto Antonsen's BRM for the duration of the race whilst soaking up some pressure from Dean & Jethro (?) early on.
I finished, on the lead lap, but was half a second off my training pb.

That was one of the toughest races in a while. Rouen is a tricky track for me so I'm psyched to have seen the chequered flag Smiley
Shame my teammate, Jani, blew his engine on the grid Sad

Decided to take the Lotus for a change and since I have the readies  Tongue but I didn't drive before qual and only had 15 mins since I was on child duty.  My setup wasn't quite what I wanted and I didn't have a clean lap so started dead last.  The real issue was that I didn't have time to try another setup and was toying with the idea of taking one blind...but pleased I didn't.

At the start I made up a couple of places straight away then settled in behind Clive for a few corners then made a move just before the back straight.  Been a while since I've driven the lotus and the grunt to overtake was rather refreshing.  I took Dave R on the start finish but made a mess of T1 and had a lengthy trip up and down the banking which put me dead last.  From thereon in it was a recovery drive mixed with a few spins.  On the last lap I lost it on the approach to New World and got wedged in the polos.  A comedy end to a poor but reasonably fun race.  Slightly embarrassed to have such poor pace in such a fast car.

Cheers,

Bob

Back in the days I did a PB of 1.56.2 in the BRM on Rouen, so now that I had some time to practise, I decided to see if I could get the beast around Rouen at the same pace again.. in offline-practise I got down to 1.56.3 but in qual it was a 1.56.6 which put me 8th..

I was able to make a move on cookie in the early part of the race to take 7th, only to make a small mistake a lap later and he instantly reclaimed it and slowly pulled away from me throughout the race.. Roo was keeping me to the fire as any mistake meant he would creep closer and a good lap gave me some tenths.. Don't know who disco/crashed but somewhere along the line I was moved up to 7th, and near the end I suddenly saw cookie facing the wrong way out of the hairpin which handed me 6th..

Grats to Pelle with a superior win and the podium finishers, commiserations to Rob for losing power on the last lap  Roll Eyes

I had a cracking race  Smiley. Probably my best effort in the Works league thus far this season.

I do enjoy racing around Rouen and the Ferrari was a joy to drive. The result was 4th on the grid and a consistent race with no spins  Smiley. The first part involved battling with Art for 3rd place. One lap he braked slightly late into Samson, and the better drive off the corner saw me passed. It took me most of the race to catch Rob, eventually passing him into Scierie before settling into 2nd place. Pelle was in another league and I simply had to answer.

Big congrats to Pelle for the dominant win. Glad to be back racing after the break  Smiley.

Results up and replay up, my race was abruptly ended after my laptop shut itself off for heat purposes. The poor thing needs retiring but funds are lacking. Will see how the rest of the season progresses.

Cheers Jethro, and hard luck Wink

Incredibly hard race for me. Already struggled to get a good lap in quali, but in the end it was a chassis PR for me.

The race was simply a disaster, it was like driving a total different car/setup. Couldn't find a rhythm and kept on making small mistakes that made lose my confidence, and focus. Pelle drove away already on Lap 1, but I still had a buffer to finish P2 midrace. Then went off at T1 losing 4s, and Sam got closer. Made some more mistakes and Sam got a run on me. Didn't want to be overly defensive since I was making mistakes and losing confidence, and already settled for P3 in my mind, when I got an engine problem towards Scierie in the last lap, dropping from 3rd to 5th.

I can use all sorts of excuses, fact is I didn't perform in the race as I usually do. A major dent in my confidence, and run for the Works championship, which is becoming an obsession  Roll Eyes Hope to be back on form next race...

Great pace Pelle, and also a great race by Sam. Well deserved P2 (you will win a race this season!). I think Tommie got Attilio at the checkered flag...good job guys Smiley

Another guest appearance from me, producing a reasonable showing I thought... I still don't have the strength in my left foot to manage a full race, but I thought I might have a chance at Rouen because there isn't that much braking to do..and I was pleased to be right. Having said that, it was quite a boring race. In the early stages I was close to Dean and maybe Roo, but not enough pace to trouble them, and the ever changing list of people behind me didn't seem to have the puff to annoy me...well not until the latter stages of the race when I had a couple of spins as I tired.

Good to have a run out, will need to see which of the remaining races might be suitable for another go.

On an unrelated theme, whilst I haven't been able to race imaginary cars round a circuit, I can actually manage bike track days..spent two days at Laguna Seca recently, what a laugh. The Corkscrew is a challenging approach, but didn't have too many issues, and the buzz of the left/right whilst dropping a few storeys is something else :-). I've also done Donnington, and that's just a fantastic, flowing circuit.....best I've done so far.... off to the Green Hell in May though......

Cheers

YES...it was my Sunday, but no one has an idea of how lucky I was here at Rouen.  Grin

Within UKGPL, I drove 54 laps at Watkins Glen on EOLC & won. whistling
About 45 minute break to Rouen...but I was tired, really wanted to sleep.

Anyway, pole in Eagle & reasonable ok start. Had quickly a sense - even RF were in a slower car - there was no pressure from lap one.
From around lap 17 & the car was not so heavy, I had difficulty turning right, because the left front wheel should have been more inclined.
Between lap 20 & 25, I have two spins, the last bit violently out of T1, perhaps because my eyes were closing Down  sleep1

Happy to see the man with the checkered flag & fastest time on lap 25  Cool

Grats Samb & TvO  thumbup1 ...this gave little excitement in the points, but next time I'm in McHonda, Grrr RF  Cheesy

PA: Interesting choice of BRM, but whatever...it gave points to our Team  thumbup2

Today's unluckiest: GT...2xDNF  Huh

It wasn't your fault Clive. My apologies for hitting you and not replying earlier. I was so disgusted I exited GPL as quickly as possible and have no intention of reviewing anything. I've got a dense arse that won't quit pestering me when I try to race. My computers problems were minor and I should have been able to overcome them but I couldn't concentrate with somebody bothering me. I should have and could have easily avoided you Clive had I not been being distracted at the very time I came upon you.

I can't race on Sundays until this BS stops.
