Moderator's Report

SUMMARY

In this race, as often is the case in the Historic Trophy, survival is the priority. The start of the race is clean, and the running order stays the same. On first lap, Doni drops from 5th to last after bumping the hay bails. Tim has to retire on lap 3 after getting stuck in a hedge. Tristan has an off on lap 3. He gives the lead to Sam, and rejoins the track in 4th place. Axel\'s engine lets go on lap 4. The battle between Sam and Greg was great to watch. Sam runs wide on last corner of lap 7, and gives the lead to Greg temporarily. Greg loses the lead to Sam at the slow left hander that starts you up the hill. Tristan overtakes Greg at the same point on lap 10. Tristan also overtakes Sam in the last corner of lap 10. There is an incident on lap 11 between Sam and Tristan taking out both drivers. Greg\'s engine lets go at the same time, but he is able to coast to the line to gain two positions. Andreas takes the lead on lap 12, and is the sole finisher of the race. Congrats to Andreas for the victory!

All of the drivers complied with the chassis selection rules for this round.

Server replay time: 0h05m37s

Lap 2 - The right hand sweeper turn following the MTS - Kurve - Doni makes two attempts to overtake Fran. On the first attempt, Doni pulls along side on the first long straight. Doni is cautious, and he brakes early for the MTS - Kurve. On the straight after the MTS - Kurve, Doni tries to pull alongside Fran again. Doni does not have much overlap on the straight, but makes up ground just before corner entry. Doni has about 50% overlap at the sweeper, and most of the moderators agreed that it was enough for him to claim the racing line. Doni\'s nose was even with Fran\'s roll bar. Doni stays tight to the right hand side of the track. Fran is not able to see Doni, and Fran turned in to the corner as he normally would. Fran\'s right rear makes contact with Doni\'s left front. The contact flips Fran upside down, and he has to retire. Doni is able to continue. The limited lateral view in GPL makes incidents of this type very likely. However this incident could have been avoided if Fran had stayed on his side of the track. If in doubt, drivers should always leave room.

Doni - Did a good job making your presence well known before committing to an overtake move. You stayed on your side of the race track leaving room for Fran. You had just enough overlap for a legitimate overtake. Your only fault is that you may or may not have posted an angry comment on the forum after the race; only to change the message to \"no comment\" an hour later.

Fran - Did a good job leaving space for Doni on the straight. You were not able to see Doni in your mirrors before the turn. As a general rule, if you are not able to see the car in your mirror, then drivers should always leave room.

Simple Side by Side contact: Normal Penalty 1 Place. In a corner, after a legitimate overtaking attempt the cars end up side by side. One driver moves over instead of staying on their own side of the track. Contact is made. Penalty for driver that moves over. Fran is the driver that reported the incident, and he had to retire from the contact. So the one place penalty is reduced to a warning.

Server replay time: 0h30m55s

Lap 11 – Queckenberg Kurve - Last Corner – Sam misses the 200 brake marker board. Braked too harshly in desperation, locking the brakes and hit the back of an innocent Tristan. Tristan and Sam become stuck in the haybail and both retire.

Simple Rear End Shunt: Penalty 1 Place - The victim made no mistakes and was driving their normal line at normal speed. The shunter had lost control on the approach to the braking zone and consequently braked later than intended.

Season 29 Historic Trophy - Round 7 – Sachsenring

The first race was held here on 26 May 1927 on an 8.7 km layout on public roads, running through the village of Hohenstein-Ernstthal. It was dubbed "Sachsenring" in 1937. The East German motorcycle Grand Prix was held there from 1962 to 1971. The local two stroke MZ bikes of Zschopau were competitive during this time. The quickest lap was achieved by 15 time World Champion Giacomo Agostini on a MV Agusta with a 180 km/h average. After West German Dieter Braun won in 1971 and the East German fans sang the West German National Anthem in celebration (as is the case in sport, the winner's National Anthem is played after the event), the event was limited to East European entrants for political reasons.

The full time drivers can start to practice as soon as the server is available.  Reserve drivers can also join as soon as the server becomes available but must leave the server with 35 minutes of qualifying left, for a total of 5 minutes; this will allow any remaining full timers to join.  If there is enough space on the grid, the reserve drivers will be able to rejoin when there are 30 mins of qualifying left.

Please restrict chat to pit messages including at the end of the race until ALL drivers still racing have crossed the line.

All races will be run at 60 frames per second – please use this patch 60fpsV2newmod.

Drivers must complete 50% of each race to score.

This race is for cars with 3 Litre engines.

Race length = 12 laps (50 Minutes)

1 lap in Sachsenring is usually less than 3 minutes...

I'm not a fast pilot but I did 2min 49 sec yesterday evening during training.

The best will drive 12 laps with an average time of 2'45'' (or less), so race duration will be 33 minutes (if the best survives ...because yes there are many fatal traps ).
Just a remark, not a problem for me  Grin

Something weird happened there. Braking for one of my least favourite corners when a split second of Lag happened and then the FF pulled right more than usual.
The result was my brushing with a hedge and getting stuck there!
Couldn't get out so quit  Sad

Really didn't help to notice on my return to the pits that Tristan had had some sort of off so I 'should have' been promoted to a comfy lead  :'(

Tristan, I am so sorry for ruining your race  Embarrassed. I locked the brakes and simply couldn't slow the car in time. Will send a report in due course.

Congrats Andreas and Tristan!

I guess all the Gurney pictures I looked at in the links on srmz, had me stoked. Smiley

I was very lucky to get 2nd place. I had a legitimate chance at the podium but I didn't expect to do any better than 3rd.

I got plenty of time to look for a place to pass Sam. I never saw much of an opportunity. It's a shame I didn't get more time to look.

I struggled with the slow left hander that starts you up the hill. I couldn't find a consistent line and the T1G's lack of torque really slowed me there. I used a lower 1st gear than I liked and that still wasn't enough to keep the engine from bogging. I'm glad Tristan and Sam were able to pass me there without much trouble. I lost a lot of time to Sam at that turn on most laps but I could usually make it up late in the lap.

Lap 11 my engine died with a slight whimper shortly after entering the forest. Since Andreas was so far behind I decided to coast as far as I could. I made it to the finish line. I was shocked when Prib said I had the lead. I thought completing one more lap could possibly gain me a position. I never expected two. I watched Andreas run lap 12. There was a chance I'd win if he crashed on lap 12. lol

That was a great outing in a car I've only driven once before.

My commiserations to all the other unfortunate DNF's.

Grats Andreas for a deserved win!!!
You were right to take the Bt19 Wink

As I really hate this track I decided to take a group 1 car and took the Eagle. Was my very first time in this car...
Got the setup pretty well, but had the same problems with the gears and so my egine exploded early in the last downhill sector Roll Eyes

Control of my car was taken over by aliens just after the start and they directed my car into the barriers at T2.  alien

I lost all control over the steering, accelerator and brakes as my Brabham was controlled by some external force.!! nuke scared scared

Just about my shortest race ever!
