Stupid hay bales - may as well have taken the night off  Sad

WD to Tris on the New FL though - kind of a shame though given Raoni's 1:19.4xx was done on keys  Grin

Another depressing race after Bathurst. Simply didn't have the right mindset and focus and made a mistake early on in the race, bending the car against the wall. After that car didn't turn well anymore, understeer turning into snappy oversteer...collected more damage throughout the race having a spin /crash in the odd laps, and got extremely lucky with P4 that I certainly didn't deserve!

Grats Tris, Axel and Dean.  Wink

A new track for me & it's a great one. I was happy with my setup/pace & managed to soak up the pressure from Doni in the early stages & whilst holding a comfortable 3rd I stupidly changed my 'sequence' going into T1 & paid the haybale price. Muppet  Embarrassed

Grats finishers.

My last race here was in 2009, so long ago and so short of kilometres, that it was a new track for me too. But qual went well, I had a good setup, and this time I started the race keeping in mind that it was a no shift-r event + I was in the right car Smiley And again consistency earned positions. Plus for the most part of the race I had a good dicing with Clive – which unfortunately ended in tears Cheesy It was still great fun.
Congrats to the winner and podium! Thanks all for the race!

Grats to our podium winners!  Just to survive here is an accomplishment.

So, Roo...  Sounds like you bit the bales just about exactly as I did some laps earlier.  There are any number of traps at Porto and so, so easy to fall into them.

I thought the start went off really, really well.  From my vantage point, everyone played it cool and sensible in the dash down into T2.  In the run over to T3, I thought Dean had the goods on me on my left and I eased out of the gas a bit early to let him through but he backed out of it.  Probably a good idea as the tiniest of misjudgments from either the passer or passee is likely to end in tears.

Great track I feared a long time, but with a good setup car it felt fantastic  Grin

The 2 hairy brake points after the straights I took very carefull, this helped me to survive but maybe caused troubles to followers in the first laps.

I could follow Tris most of the race, but when he used the afterburner I had no chance...

Everyone was extremely well behaved on the first laps and I was hanging back, just waiting for some free places.

Nothing happened so I had to start driving faster!!!  Undecided  The Honda was great through the bends but just lacked basic grunt on the long straight.

As the race progressed I picked up a couple of places, as cars found the sticky hay bales, until I caught Jani and his BRM........ The rest of the race was an absolute blast. I was definitely faster on a clear lap and could make up any gap to Jani quite easily.
The slipstream from the BRM was great along the straight, until I pulled out to make a pass and I could only get alongside as the increased drag just stopped the poor Honda dead. I tried every trick I could think of to get my nose in front, absolutely confident that if I could make the pass at the end of the straight I could pull a gap through the Esses on the run back to the S/F line.
But Jani always held the racing line into T2 and the braking rights, Then a recovering Robert joined the battle, just to complicate matters!!

Apologies to Jani for the last lap suicide move  Roll Eyes, but it was just about the only place that I might have had a chance of stealing the place from you. It didn't work!! and it allowed Robert to pick up 2 cheap places.

Grats to Tristan on a fine record lap and to all finishers.

Well...good race for me, the Brabham was cool to handle and the pole was important here 'cause exept the straight line, nowhere to overtake.....and so at the T1, it was important to have a good exit....and beware of the haieballs   Cheesy     .....so after taking the lead, I focus on the gap whith Axel ...( good job mate ! ) and stay under pressure till 3-4 laps of the finish where I push the car to get some air Wink and finish 5s ahead Axel ...definitively very consistant.
well done podium and finishers....
Rob look a little frustrated whith the Cooper on this track.....but still lead the Champ Wink
