Season 29 Historic Trophy - Round 8 – Zandvoort

On 7 August 1948, the first race was held on the new permanent Zandvoort circuit. Soon more races followed on the course, with the first official Formula 1 Grand Prix becoming a milestone in 1952. Up until the mid-eighties, heroes like Alberto Ascari, Juan Manuel Fangio, Stirling Moss, Graham Hill, Jim Clark, Jackie Stewart, James Hunt, Nelson Piquet and Alain Prost braved the challenging course in the Dutch dunes and won at Zandvoort. After the Grand Prix of 1985, the Formula 1 left Zandvoort, but the seaside resort and its impressive race track were not forgotten. Many years after the last Grand Prix, the ‘racing drivers of the day’ still talk about their experience on the race track where the challenging corners ‘separated the men from the boys’.

The full time drivers can start to practice as soon as the server is available.  Reserve drivers can also join as soon as the server becomes available but must leave the server with 35 minutes of qualifying left, for a total of 5 minutes; this will allow any remaining full timers to join.  If there is enough space on the grid, the reserve drivers will be able to rejoin when there are 30 mins of qualifying left.

Please restrict chat to pit messages including at the end of the race until ALL drivers still racing have crossed the line.

All races will be run at 60 frames per second – please use this patch 60fpsV2newmod.

Drivers must complete 50% of each race to score.

This race is for cars with 2 Litre engines.

Only reported incidents will be moderated, there is no Red Zone.

Driver lists and rules (please note the rules for the Historics are different this season) can be found on the championship standings page

Please Note: Drivers have to use at least 1 car from each of the groups (Group I, Group II and Group III on the championship standings page).  There are only two 2 litre races left so please make sure you use a chassis from each group.  For example Bastian has used two Group III cars but as yet none from Groups I or II. Francesco has used 2 from Group II but none from Group I. Doni has used 2 from Group I but none from Group II.  Please choose carefully, an illegal chassis choice will result in disqualification.

For Round 8, Bastian needs to use a car from group I or group II.

edit: Sorry, I now see that Phil mentioned this in the announcement.

If you were absent (DNS) from one race, is it the same than picking a Group I car ?

There are 5 races from each types (2L or 3L) : if you only start 4 races or 3 races what are the possibilities ?

If you DNS a race you can nominate that as a Group I race.  If you DNS a second race you can nominate that as a Group II race.

However if a driver uses a 4th Group III car then they will be disqualified from the results of the 4th race.  Obviously a 5th Group III car will again mean disqualification from the 5th race.   Similarly taking 3 Group III cars and 2 Group II cars will mean disqualification from the 5th race.

It is most unlikely that a driver could win the championship only competing in 6 races.  In other words if someone took 3 Group III 2 Litre cars and 3 Group III 3 Litre cars and won all their races the maximum they could score is:
6 x 50 = 300

However there are lots of permutations involving 8 races and no wins that can beat 300 points.  For example:
(6 x 43) + (2 x 50) = 358
8 x 43 = 344
(7 x 37) + (1 x 43) = 302

Hope that helps Smiley

NP, Phil...  I'm zeroing in on the Lotus 33-BRM for this round which covers me for the GII pick.

Yes it helps ! Thanks Phil.

By the way, I have an issue with  mod66 since 2 or 3 weeks : I was disconnected at the start of Sachsenring race, and had lot of CTD during off line training in Zandvoort.
After different tries, I changed from Direct 3D to Direct 3D V2 and now I have no more freeze or crash ...but Pribluda is not working anymore !

Do I have to update my Pribluda ?

Prib doesn't work for me in D3DV2, but it does in OGLV2. Have you tried that?

David, what version pribluda so you use? Maybe you use an older version to work with the older rasterizers!?

I use 1.1.2.1, it works with both D3D V2 and OGL V2 here. (with my HD4850 had to use D3DV2, now with my HD6950 again using OGLV2, which I prefer...)

Thanks Robert. I have installed the new version and it works fine with D3DV2.

There are many more data to read on the screen, now Smiley

Oh dear. Made an absolute pig's ear of overtaking Dean. My rear wheel clipped the inside curb at Tarzan which pitched me into a half-spin, but unfortunately that punted Dean into the barrier. Then to top things off I found myself beached on the kerb  Undecided.

Really sorry about that Dean, complete cock-up on my part.

Late home from work so only just managed to make the grid with a default setup.  Handled OK but 5th gear was too long so only used 4th.  Quit with suspension damage at about half way, didn't want to get in Tristan's way when he was about to lap me for a second time!

...Made an absolute pig's ear of overtaking Dean...

And that situation is why I do not, nor ever will, use teamspeak while racing. :innocent:

Housemates understand, fortunately.  Cheesy

It did put me into a good fight fending off Ronnie, then tracking down Cookie and finally forcing him into a mistake to snag 3rd, which is about as good as could be hoped for seeing T and T's pace here, so no worries. Pity you weren't able to continue.

Grats to the podium Wink

Yes Dean, you had the better endurance in the end...
I think without my incident with Ray you would not have got me Grin
