The writer assumes that you have already been online (joined practice server) and checked that you have the right track and a correct car.

In the lobby make sure your Data Rate is set to ISDN.

It is strongly recommended that you download and install "XD" (http://www.vitumo.de/) which is a handy HUD tool that shows Engine health, tyre wear and heat, brake heat and loads of other relevant stuff.

It is especially useful for finding out how much fuel a lap uses and hence how much fuel you will need to complete a race. Always allow a little over the amount required in case you have an "off" as recovery tends to use a lot of fuel. Note that 3rd party tracks are notorious for wildly inaccurate fuel estimates so use the XD estimate always.

On race night it's suggested that you join the practice session prior to qualification so last minute "tweaks" can be tested. When qualification starts you might want to reduce your fuel load to prepare for some "hot laps". Your current fastest lap time will be displayed by XD along with your competitors times, so you can see how well you are doing.

When qualification finishes leave the track and go to your garage screen to reset to race fuel if required and to do any final adjustments to your race setup. You can pop into Chat to see what others are saying or stay in the garage. Watch for the pre race countdown clock that will appear at the bottom right of your display. As soon as you see the countdown it is best to join the grid ASAP.

When on the grid check XD for your engine health %. Sometimes it can be set quite low e.g. <50%. If you need to improve the % figure press escape key and rejoin the grid again. Keep doing this until your % figure is high enough for comfort e.g. >75% but keep an eye on the countdown so that you don't get caught in the pits when the race starts!

Remember to select 1st gear!

Whilst in practice/qualification other drivers may join the session. You can set GTL so that these cars are loaded straight away or when your going slowly on track or only when you return to the garage.
