Moderator's Report

SUMMARY

Bastian Grupp wins the race in an Eagle, starting from pole, after an intense and exciting fight with Phil Thornton in a Lotus. Phil had to settle for second after a late race mishap, and he set the fastest lap after that. Billy Nobrakes rounds out the podium in his usual consistent style. Well done all!

One incident was reported. The incident between George and Bastian at Curva Grande has not been reported and will not be moderated since I have to be consistent with that.

Server replay time: 0h01m20s

Leader Bernie Darwin is rearended by Dave Curtis in the braking zone towards Lesmo on Lap 1. Bernie reports this incident. Dave argues he felt he was careful, but the car did not slow enough. It looks like Dave simply braked too late and not hard enough and got sucked into Bernie. Dave needs a reset, but Bernie his car is heavily damaged but decides to keep on racing.

There was no attempt to overtake, Dave lost control under braking.

Simple Rear End Shunt: Penalty 1 Place - The victim made no mistakes and was driving their normal line at normal speed. The shunter had lost control on the approach to the braking zone and consequently braked later than intended.

Server replay time: 0h02m43s

George Cheeseman does not come to a full stop at his S&G. His minimum speed was 3kmh (2mph) on the server replay. Please come to a full stop.

The penultimate round of this season will be held at the legendary and well known Monza circuit. The Autodromo Nazionale Monza is a race track located near the city of Monza, north of Milan, in Italy. The circuit's biggest event is the Formula One Italian Grand Prix. With the exception of 1980, the race has been hosted there since the series's inception.

Dave Curtis and Bastian Grupp are the main contenders for the championship, with Bernie Darwin and Billy Nobrakes still having an outside chance for the title.

Replays Available here

Driver lists and token rules can be found on the championship standings page

The full time drivers can start to practice as soon as the server is available.  Reserve drivers can also join as soon as the server becomes available but must leave the server with 35 minutes of qualifying left, for a total of 5 minutes; this will allow any remaining full timers to join.  If there is enough space on the grid, the reserve drivers will be able to rejoin when there are 30 mins of qualifying left.

This Season we don't have a Red Zone. Moderating will be on reported incidents only. If you haven't received a PM about an incident before the link below the results table is removed, you can be sure that you will not appear in the moderator's report.

The chassis token system is explained on the Privateers standings page. Please ensure you choose a chassis that is within your budget, which can be seen by hovering the mouse over your points total in the standings.

Please restrict chat to pit messages including at the end of the race until ALL drivers still racing have crossed the line.

Qualified 4th.  Had some good racing with Billy and Phil.  Lost it at Lesmo 1 and did a 360.  Managed not to damage the car.  Got reeled in by George in the Ferrari, who cruised past - great drive.  Then got reeled in and overtaken on the penultimate lap by Dave.  Finished 6th - ho hum.  Sad

Qualified near the back (8th) but I was patient and was expecting to pick up some places as drivers made mistakes on the first few laps.  Sure enough I managed to find myself in 4th place at the end of lap 1.  Then Philippe missed his braking into Parabolica on lap 2 and I was up to 3rd.  I could see Bastian in the lead and pulling away. I had to try to stay with him so I tried to pass Billy at the earliest opportunity which was round the outside at Ascari on lap 3 after I got a better drive than Billy out of Lesmo 2 (thanks for the clean racing Bill).  For the next few laps I tried to close Bastian down and when he made the mistake of running wide on the exit of Lesmo 2 on lap 6 I was through and into the lead.  I couldn't make a break and so I wasn't sure if Bastian was playing a waiting game.  I missed a gear on the exit of the Parabolica on lap 14 and that was enough for Bastian to close up the few car lengths lead I had.  He was close enough to challenge me into Lesmo 1 so I took a wide line to give him space.  Unfortunately I messed it up and lost the lead.  Bastian was driving really well and I struggled to get close enough to him to challenge for the position.  On lap 27 I pushed too hard and had a minor excursion into the sand at Parabolica.  That was enough to give Bastian a five second lead and despite posting the fastest lap in my efforts to chase him down I couldn't catch him and I had to settle for second place.

Well done Bastian.  Great driving and a well deserved win.  Unlucky Bernie, you were much quicker than your finishing position implies.

I got a good start from P3 then inherited the lead after just avoiding the 2 front runners who collided in Curva Grande , my lead lasted as far as Lesmo 1 when Dave charged up from behind and launched me !
Got from lesmo 1 to lesmo 2 via the moon then made a perfect 4 point landing but facing the wrong way , after waitng for the whole field drive past I was able do a 180 and re join last , undamaged but then hopelessly behind .
Trying too hard to catch up never does work for me , a few laps later BANG went 1 expensive cosworth engine needing a pit stop for a replacement . ( cant yet figure out how those guys changed the mill so quickly )

After that it was mistakes a plenty , pressing too hard , spent too much time watching the temps as every time I pushed hard the water temp would shoot  into the red and not having another spare , didnt want to ruin another engine .

Never been lapped at Monza as long as can remember , thought Billy was going to get past me to after making a pigs ear of it once again and half spinning on the penultimate lap .

Grats to the Podium boys and all the other greasy goggles who finished  Smiley

Seems that most of the field were cashing in their tokens with the Lotus & Eagles last night.

I started P7 but all the leading cars conspired to run into each other giving the lead at the start of lap 2. Both Bastian & Phil were quicker & I gave them space to get past & fight it out between them. After that it was just a case of being consistent & keeping out of the gravel traps. The leading pair were edging ahead lap by lap. Toward the end of the race George was starting to reduce the gap but not enough to really threaten.
Earlier on I was caught & passed by Fabio who was getting good pace out of the under-powered Brabham. Fortunately for me he got out of shape exiting Parabolica & that was the last car I saw until a glimpse of Bernie on the last lap.

I think Bastian has done enough to get the Championship but he still needs a result at Bathhurst, which could be tricky in the 67 cars.

Good turnout last night.Welcome back to Ivan.

Hard to keep the concentration last night.

After the pole, I had a good start but George gave me a hit and I spun.
Luckily I could rejoin at 4th and had to cars flying around in the first lesmo.
It was David who lost the ability to fight for the victory Sad

I was figthing with Phil from time to time.

In the last lap I was a bit afraid of the warping and dissapering ivandjj and didnt attempt to lap anymore.

Before stopping my car in curva grande my screen turned black with the message "GPL is not working anymore...."

UFF

Excited for the finish in Bathhurst. I should have 18 points left for another eagle in my calculation...

As I said in the post-race chat, I was so glad you continued and won. I would have hated to have influenced the championship having barely raced this season. I had no real intention to pass, it was actually an avoidance manoeuvre as I was too busy watching the Lotus in my mirror to make sure I closed the line a bit but gave him room and I completely missed my braking point. Watching the replay back tonight, the Lotus wasn't really as close as I thought. I almost parked it and disconnected cos of the guilt!

Anyway, congrats. To be honest, I think 4th was a bit lucky as I didn't have the pace or top speed for any more than that and I was way out of touch with the top three after the stop-go.

Still, cracking battle between Phil and you at the front, close and clean. I had something similar with Ronnie just past the halfway point of the race which was a good laugh but once I sneaked pass him, it was a rather lonely affair.

Twas nice to be racing again, especially for the whole of 50 mins and without shift-r's Smiley

This was first time i used 60fps patch, so any feedback or advice is welcome.
I'll try to sort that out before next race.
I got overtaken quite a few times by a few Eagles and a Ferrari, any warping there?

Used 60fpsv2newmod.
