Season 29 Joe Shaw Memorial – Round 5 – Borovaya

This will be the third race of the Joe Shaw Memorial series 2016.

The series will be run over a 10 race format with a warm up event in 65 cars on Tuesday, followed by a Championship race in original 67 cars on Sunday evening.

Round 5 takes place at Borovaya. The Short Minsk Ring was opened in 1962. The circuit is situated northeast of Minsk. On a map the track resembled a triangle; two south sides went along old Zaslavskoe highway, which turned to the south near the village, and the north side ran along a new post-war section of this highway. The length of the track was 2850 meters. The track doesn't have any fences or walls around it, but some areas are marked by wooden landmarks or piles of tires. Watch out for the hay-bales which are particularly sticky.

There is no chassis handicap, no points at stake & unlimited shift R, followed by a compulsory Stop & Go in the pit lane. All comers are welcome.

This track is fun to drive -- though T1 is crazy with its uphill breaking zone and tightness. Cheesy

Fine turn out once again, good to see. Screen freeze for me just when I remembered I needed to pit. Good luck to all still running.

Messy start, fell back to 11th or so...was back in 7th when screen froze as well...had to shutdown system...

Maybe it's an idea to install my light version for this track (I made for my old P4/XP system) for Sunday, no guarantees, but who knows it might avoid the screenfreezes?

If the server hasn't crashed I believe you can use the replay data somehow can't you?
Wondering if my Honda time stacks up well now  Grin

Was looking forward to Borovaya on Sunday but rather than risk another screen freeze I suggest we try a different track. I will post the Sunday race tomorrow but will provisionally go with Zeltweg 71.

...rather than risk another screen freeze I suggest we try a different track...

Don't worry about another screen freeze taking out half the field.

T1 with pro damage will definitely look after that.  Grin

Well, on to my race (which started at the back of the field again, but without a shift-r; somehow I came through the WHAM flippy spinny caroming off Cookie and Tim with all four wheels and upright for once, and figured I might need that shift-r later so held off, turns out I took no damage): climbed quickly back up through others having moments (apologies to Dave R. for a bit of impatience, sorry, you disappeared from my screen right at the contact, thought you'd discoed) to find myself promoted by the discoes into gunning for a podium. Made it past Doni without too much issue, then drafted past TBot only to get on the throttle a bit too hard at the tight left 90, giving the lead back. He managed to find the shrubberies a few laps later, and that was all she wrote.

Happy to report my connection was great!  Not a single frame lost. Nowadays it's a rarity to join a Ukgpl race, and not suffer glitches, and framerate loss.  Sad times. Sad

Race wise, I avoided the off road activities at the 1st hairpin, but greeted Jani there, not long after.  Relieved to see 8 wheels remained attached.  Later suffered a 200G accident. A friendly looking hedge grabbed a front wheel and everything stopped in about a metre - a parking meter! Thereafter spent the race watching an Evil dot buzzing around, just out of reach.  Championship winning drivers should be put in something slower then a BT7.  Grumble!

Much better racing than the 65 Nurburgringen round where the usual glitches, and a warp induced contact, reduced the fun factor greatly.  Might be an idea to blacklist the Nurb, as it's tough to race there with Ukgpl Server nowadays.  Used to be trouble free. hammer

I was lucky in T1, gained 4-5 places, then raced in P4, had lots of fun, but later I was hit in T1 by Martin... I decided to retire as I never intended to finish the race due to the late hour and my tiredness.
Grats to the winner! I can't wait for Sunday race.

Disappointed by another T1 mess but I managed to survive much as Dean did. From my pov, at around the same time as the initial shunt the whole field disappeared & I was taken out by a re-appearing Honda.
My race was not as clean as needs to be, with a couple of self-induced spins. The mass disco gave me my position.

Grats all that could stick it out.

I was getting big stutters at the double right hander where the track is close to the main straight. This caused at least one of my off's & compromised many laps trying to compensate for it.
If it was only the server connection, ok, if it's a track specific issue then maybe the track should be black listed? Would be a shame as I like the layout.

I don't mean to dis' the server, I appreciate the guys supplying them. It could just as well be my connection causing the stutters, I get them on GPLRacer too.

My!  What a terrific run and win for Dean!  After seeing his Ferrari doing a full gainer entering T1 on Lap01, never would I thought that he'd recover let along charge through for the victory.  Top marks, Deaner!

Another lucky placing for me and largely due to the T1, Lap01 scrum and a lot of disco's.  Bad luck, amigos.  Roo...  LOL!  Just as 'a re-appearing Honda' took you out, your Lotus came from Nowheresville to occupy previously vacant space dead ahead of me just as I was about to turn in.  My personal replay cap agrees pretty much point for point with the server version in that you vanished for several seconds...unsighted by me as I was much farther back...and it was a shock to have you emerge directly in front of me with absolutely no hope of avoiding.  Sorry but we'll have to put this down to warp.  In fact, I found several instances of severe fps drop during the race...one, perhaps, at the moment of the mass disco's...and I'm keen to try Robert's detuned version in hopes of having more consistent performance in future.  I'd hate to see this venue blackballed as it's quite fun.

My race ran relatively error-free with the exception of one boner.  I bungled T8 somewhat with Jani and Martin not far behind and in trying to recover, fished down for a lower gear looking for a chance to maintain position.  Only trouble was, I was already in bottom gear and I found to my dismay that I had a box full of neutrals.  LOL!  I revved the snot out of the V-12 before realizing my gaffe.  Good thing that I didn't reach down for another lower gear with my changedown paddle or I would have joined Jacques Villeneuve, the elder, in the Hall of Shame.  Smiley  As fate would have it, both were effectively KO'd moments later in a collision in T1.

I enjoyed the last laps in trying to hold off Tristan and consider it rather fortunate to have prevailed.  That he had an off, performed a shift-R and made the requisite pitstop made the difference.

Grats to Dean, Doni and Tris. Dean had excellent pace and also a nice fast lap!

I saw the incident between Dave and Dean (being behind Dean), Dean was warping a bit (stuttering?) and I think they touched even before the braking zone...
