CanAm 66 Funrace at Riverside 1966

To have some fun with the newest cars GPL has, we will do a Friday fun series with the CANM66 mod.

The Riverside track in  California was in operation from September 22, 1957, to July 2, 1989. The original course design proved to be dangerous, and it was partially reconfigured in 1969. The track was built to accommodate several different configurations, depending on the type of car and race length. The three options on Riverside Raceway were the long course, the short course and a NASCAR course. When the track was redesigned in 1969, Turn 9 was reconfigured with a wider radius and a dogleg approach added to reduce strain on the cars' brakes.

This 1966 version has the original Turn 9 and no dogleg in the backstraight.

Free car choice and no restrictions, but try to drive like gentlemen and let's all have fun!

I downloaded the mod Canam66 this morning.
It looks very nice, cars are beautiful and easier to handle than 71's, sounds are great, and Ai are way better than for Canam71.

Looking forward to this  Grin

Thanks for the Genie set-up, T. Much friendlier than my efforts. I copied it over to the Lola Chev 333 and immediately put in a 45 flat, but the rear was super twitchy again. Any idea on how to counter that? Have tried more rear RB like you suggested, but it's not helping much. Any chance you've done setups for the other cars?

I have setups like that for all the cars, meet me in chat Smiley .

I think you need more front roll bar (instead of rear) in combination with more rear toe-in Smiley .

Tommie.

Beatiful to view also my work in the first official race but the race start bad......with the explosion of the engine on the start line. After this the wall have stopped my race.
The track is not easy(for me) and i don't know if i have found a good set-up.Anyway this mod need the virtual mirror ,otherwise is a problem to view the other cars.

Still learning, had some fun but tyres started overheating.  Well done Axel.

Great fun. Lost 6 seconds when I found a false neutral behind Tommie and it locked the rear axle. But for that, I could have been pressuring Axel before the last lap, but I'm sure he was just managing his pace to the end. Last lap was fun, he pulled away in the twisty bits, and I couldn't catch up enough on the straight in the big block Lola. 207mph top speed in the draft Grin

From my running, it seems the big block Lola was about 1.4 seconds slower than the 359, if that helps. M1B and Chap 1-3 tenths behind the 359.

I must have missed something somewhere about the new 66 Can Ams.........where do I get the download??   and are there any issues with loading it??

Also if Tommie has some base line setups that he is willing to share, that could save me a lot of wasted time  Wink

Yes Clive Grin

Look at SRMZ
Get it here  Wink

Great fun driving these cars Cool
I had perfect tyre temps all over the race...

To get them to your taste just make a setup like the sport cars.
I prefer stiffer roll bars f+r and shocks f 3/5 r 6/6.

For those who have not visited the California desert, you've come close to it at this track.  With the high skill level of all our racers these days, I was surprised the track was only half full.  Even so, it looks like the carsets heavy load may have made my car warp somewhat.  Can someone confirm seeing my helmet darting about a bit?

Some close competition towards the tail for a time, until a concrete clump caused a large bump, from which I failed to recover.

Martin, you are running a different version of the track. I saw your car crabbing and racing peculiar lines. I'd advice to reinstall the track Smiley .

Could be I'm running a late beta.  I've several installs, and might not yet have updated this one.  St. Jo caused serious warp at 60fps with fewer cars, so further testing needed.  I recommend more come test their machinery, before a championship gets under way.

No need to cancel a championship because you didn't update the track  Tongue . Cookie and the funliga have been testing the mod online for an entire year, it's solid. No need to trouble the waters.
