UKGPL FUNRACE 66s - Imola - May 3

This Fun race with 66s F1 will take place at Imola.
The track was inaugurated in 1953, and it had no chicanes, so the run from Rivazza all the way to Tosa, through the pits and the eventually notorious Tamburello was totally flat out, as was the run from Acque Minerali all the way to Rivazza was just a long straight with a few small bends; and the circuit remained in this configuration until 1972. Long time home of the San Marino Grand Prix (and once of the Italian Grand Prix) the circuit is fast, bumpy and dangerous.

For this race we will have a combination of 2L and 3L cars in one grid.
- Pro/works driver have to use a 2L
- Ams/Privateers can use all cars

I think I'm getting there with a suitable setup.  I'm using some settings from Chris Moses' Spa setup, but my main issue is Tamburello - it seems the key to a fast lap, but I just can't get it right. I can't take it flat out, and timing where to turn it in with the brake is very tricky.

Did not realize my clutch was not set so the car rolled forward on the grid. Would have been DQ so I just pulled over.

Having a bad day with technology.

I love Imola but I'm so slow here, I never seem to be competitive.
Had some great laps with Francecso, thanks for that Cheesy

Grats podium, finishers, etc

Thoroughly enjoyed that race!! Grin

I dragged out an old setup for the baby Brabham, which requires some aggressive driving to get the best out of it. It took me a while to raise my blood pressure enough to make it work.
The mixture of 2 litre and 3 litre cars was a novelty as we normally avoid mixing the grids, but from my point of view this race proved that we can run both engines on the same track and enjoy some great racing. I did screw up my race by being too much of a gentleman on the 1st lap and running off the track. Re-joined dead last and had a ball chasing back up through the field. There were some epic laps with Doni, Andreas and Dean...thanks guys  thumbup2 thumbup2

If a 2 litre car can compete with a 3 litre around a track like Imola with its long fast sections, then I am all for keeping the all inclusive format. I know that there are some who think the different characteristics of the cars causes problems in the braking areas. In last nights race I was able to use that advantage without causing any incidents. It just needs drivers to be aware of what they are doing and anticipate where they can put their cars safely....now that I have boasted about what a brilliant driver I am, someone will no doubt point out where I was a lunatic!! lol

Grats to Tris, David, Ronnie and all the finishers.

I gave up yesterday. Didn't remember the long straights without chicanes and took the old ferarri.

Sorry Fran I was too early on the pedal and touched you.

After Clive gave me far too much room at his own expense on the first lap and Axel moved aside for the final time I was left to scrap it out with Tristan and the chasing Dave for most of the race. For me I really enjoyed the duel with Tristan. At the start of the last lap I got a slight advantage after an unfortunate touch but Tristan easily closed me down again. As we lined up for the final double bend scrap my engine went pop and Tristan sailed on to a deserved win while the ever chasing Dave R got me before the line for a deserved second. Like Clive I think the 2L/3L combination can work in terms of providing great racing if this one was anything to go by.

No problem,we we must not forget that we are playng. From the replay i have seen you was in trubble with the car.I was disappointed because i have failed the Rivazza in the first lap ,than a contact with Nilsson(sorry but both converging to the middle) ,so this one was the third in few laps.
After this i have had some fun with Roo like my shadow behind my car for many laps but after the spin of Roo was only an alone race.

No problem, Fran.  I've been trying to download the replay, but can't get it.  I knew you were near, but couldn't see you, sorry.  However, going three abreast through Tosa was very interesting!  laugh

I know that there are some who think the different characteristics of the cars causes problems in the braking areas.

I was very surprised to see my heavy 3L Cooper better braking than Tristan 2L BRM or the 2,7L Brabham of Ronnie ... I even rear ended Ronnie ! Sorry again Ronnie.

The race was very pleasant for me, it should be the first time I could closely follow Tristan, Ronnie or Axel during all the race... Thanks to the 3L Maserati !

For the 66 championship, we could reserve the 2L to the 4 first drivers on the championship, then the 2,4L/2,5L and 2,7L to the 4 following drivers and for the rest (from position 9 until the last one) they could use the 3L !

That could work. The moderator for the 66 series has the discretion to apply a handicap system - as long as it is fair & reasonable.

A good handicap system can bring more drivers.  When a system for championship leaders and points is used, you must add up their points.  Correct points need a Moderators report.  This becomes complicated, and the last time, I think the leaders made their own Moderation, to make their own handicap, for the last races?  Not ideal, and best to understand this before you start.  euro
