So my ancient Corsair HS1a headset, according to Picnic!, is playing up, the mic specifically. But i have it hooked up to a Sounblaster Z soundcard. Traditionally soundcards were the better option but Now everything has gone USB. But isnt that just a software solution, much like the motherboard inbuilt sound?

I used a cheap (~£6) USB sound adaptor with wired headphones for quite some time, I've gone wireless now. I found the sound perfectly acceptable but then I do have the advantage of only using the headphones for voice, the game sounds are through the motherboards sound card (which is a Creative chipset on my MB)
