UKGPL FUNRACE 66s - Oulton Park - May 10

It takes us to Oulton Park in Cheshire, England; the home of the Gold Cup. The Gold Cup was a prize originally awarded to the winner of a non-championship Formula One race held annually at Oulton Park. First ran in 1954, Stirling Moss won the cup and he would go on the win it four more times. Although the race regularly attracted the top teams from across Britain and Europe, the increasing costs of F1 and more countries wishing to have their own Grand Prix, the Gold Cup fell by wayside with last true F1 race in 1972. The Gold Cup would continue albeit with different formulaes; Formula 5000, Formula 3000; British Formula One through to British GT and British Touring Cars. Since 2003, the Gold Cup meeting is an event run by the Historic Sports Car Club.

For this race we will have a combination of 2L and 3L cars in one grid.

- Pro/works driver have to use a 2L
- Ams/Privateers can use all cars

No other restrictions!

Nerfed Ronnie at the hairpin when he braked more than I anticipated, sorry for that.
He returned the favour when he rejoined after a Knickerbrook excursion & I assume didn't realise I was along side going approaching Druids.
Several unforced errors later, I retired.

Apologies too to those I impeded when I hastily rejoined after one of my spins.

Oulton is a special place for me, I simply had to enter this race. Unfortunately I had to retire from P4 midrace...

Great fun last night and an epic battle with Axel.
He posted a very impressive qually time and I was lucky to get myself onto the front row. The pace that we were running at pulled us away from the rest of the field and I was happy to sit there until we had a huge safety cushion.
By this time we had settled into some consistant fast laps and although there were some places where I was quicker, there was never a chance of actually making a pass...until Axel made a mistake at Clearways and I was through.
I should have pushed on and made it to the flag first, but I lost concentration and Axel closed up. Then I made a dumb mistake at T1 and outbraked myself, Axel was through and back into the lead.

I pushed hard until the final laps and I had to back off to preserve fuel...the pace must have been hot, because I had used a setup that worked the distance before. Anyway I still managed a spin and allowed Axel a clear run to the finish and a good win.
Great fun screaming a 2 litre car against his growling Brabham and looking forward to the 66 season ahead.

Grats, Axel!  Great drive, Clive!  You two were on another planet!  Smiley

I was going well in P3 with Rocket closely hounding me til he had an off.  Not sure what happened there as I didn't save the replay.  Dave started to close in and it was going to be a close duel til...  A monster fps hit going into T1 had me scrambling for the line.  Perhaps someone left the server at that moment to trigger the frame loss.  I skated wide and in trying to get back onto the tarmac, positively drilled a tree mid-ships.  NUTS!  Recovering, I got into a fine 4-way duel for a brief bit but again, a severe fps hit occurred on the run into Knickerbrook some laps later had me cool my heels for the balance of my run.  In that occurrence, I saw that someone had definitely left the server just prior to the frame loss.  Retired a bit early with fatigue.  Good fun regardless.

No problem Roo these thing happen. Sorry for the coming together. I was not sure who it was at the end of the race and I think I might have apologised to Jani by mistake instead of yourself as well as Dean who I saw spinning in my mirrors late in the race.

Sorry again to both of you if you felt I was at fault.

Grats again to Axel and Clive.

No handicap for 66ers for Season 30?  This Mod is good for a handicap system, as cars have a good difference in speed.  A good handicap gives interest to more drivers, for more races.  But when the handicap has changes all Season, this can make trouble!  I have a suggestion for the future.

Take the Championship points from the Season ended.  Make a handicap from this.  Example - 100 points actual from 8 scoring races.  Divide by 8 = 12.5 .  Or 3 races only - 40 points.  Divide by 3 = 13.33 .

One problem - some drivers arrive with no points, or with 1 race only?  They would need Moderation.  And perhaps move a new driver up/down at half Season, but only if very fast/slow?

Of coarse, not all will like this idea, and bad words kill good handicaps, before and during!  gun_bandana
