Moderator's Report

SUMMARY

Philippe Girard inherits the win when Gareth Hall -who started from Pole and led for the first 30 laps, also setting the fastest lap- suffered from electrical problems. Mike James finishes an excellent second, and Jani Posta rounds out the podium. Congratulations to the podium, and commiserations to Gareth, and the other retirements.

I have seen a few incidents, that were not reported. These will not be moderated.

Dave Curtis reports he was not scored anymore by the server after 9 laps. He was not kicked by the server, but hardly appeared until he reappeared after about 2/3 of the race distance. It is impossible to say how many laps he completed, but it is fair to say he completed more laps than Gareth. Therefore I have decided to reinstate Dave since he finished the race.

Server replay time: 0h10m32s

Dave Rainier reports he lost a lot of trackposition and time after Bernie Darwin -who had spun- reversed a bit and then went forward. Dave had to make avoiding action and was stuck in between the wall and Bernie.

Bernie argues Dave could have slowed more and take the utmost inside of Pont Oscar, where the incident occurred. Bernie was not aware what happened during the race.

Dave got waved yellow flags, and he certainly slowed. But when Bernie reversed, Dave steered to the right trying to avoid Bernie, just when Bernie went forward again. This meant Dave lost a lot of trackposition and a better result. Dave did nothing wrong, he simply was unlucky. Bernie was not aware of Dave, and the topography of the track did not help, plus the nature of the spin and position of Bernie. Using pribluda for trackposition of cars could have helped to avoid this situation, being aware of where Dave was.

Inconsiderate Bad Rejoin: Penalty 1 Places - The rejoining driver was in full control but nevertheless drove straight back onto the track without leaving enough room for other cars. Contact was NOT made but other drivers had to take avoiding action.

Server replay time: 0h41m21s

Rick fails to take a Stop & Go within 2 laps after he does a reset. The division rules say this means a DQ. See the championship page for specific division rules. Also the racepost states you have to do a S&G within 2 laps after the reset.

  • Rick65 — Failing to take Stop & Go after Shift-R — excluded

Server replay time: 0h49m31s

Bernie resets in the last lap, and chooses not to do his Stop & Go. The UKGPL rules page says:

If a driver makes a shift-R on the last lap then, depending on the layout of the pit lane and position of the finish line, it may be possible for a driver to take the Stop and Go at the end of the last lap and cross the finish line in the pit lane. If this is not possible or the driver elects not to do it then the moderator may apply a reduced time penalty (normally 15 seconds) on the basis that the driver did not have sufficient opportunity to perform the Stop and Go.

Very hard race for me !
After 2 or 3 laps, a car spun in front of me, and to avoid it I ran into the grass and was blocked by an invisible object... I restarted on the last position.

Then I'll overtake David C,  Billy N. and Kai J when Bernie spun, and made a very bad rejoin on the track, I was blocked between his car and the wall ...and restarted again on the last position.
I spent several times trying to overtake Bernie, I almost lost motivation but finally I was able to overtake.

Congratulations to Phil "Porsche" and to Gareth "poor Toyota" losing a deserved victory on the last lap(s) !

Bastian made me very afraid during the first part of the race,  because your were very fast, and I thought you would eventually overtake.
Congratulations to all finishers,  thank you to the organizers.

Grats philippe, desvered win. I was fast but not focussed enough, got tired. Didn't leave enough room for Jani in Lap 1 because saw you too late, sorry for that.
Later, I hit visible and invisble objects, loosing much time and needed my s/r. After the s/r I nearly parked on another car who crashed but was lucky to get down on all wheels again.
Sorry for the scary moment. All in all, 4th is much better than deserved today. Very sorry for Gareth and  respect for Mike 2nd and Teammate Jani 3rd.

Best Regards,
Bastian

Cruel luck for Gareth, yet grats to Phil and podium Wink Thanks Jethro for server duties and replay.

PS: not 100% sure we can run at Assen67, but hopefully the latest sky.mip fix will (re)solve any issues...I have a test at it coming Saturday and will decide after that if the track is reliable enough at 60FPS, having no mass disco's/screenfreezes...

Like some of the others,  I had a spin around the track for the 1st time a couple of days ago.

Managed to get from 1:41 to 1:35 or so,  then trying a different downloaded setup was able to instantly get a 1:31m so was happy with that. Then knocked a further 2.3s off that in qually; although the event was going to be another matter altogether!  Although the AI times were still ridiculous!

During the race, we had some initial team formation driving taking place for a while;  we seemed to avoid taking each other out.
Then I seemed to be having a few lag issues & cars were disappearing/reappearing elsewhere/later.

Around lap10, I seemed to have the track to myself,   but appeared to not be dropped from the server.  Indeed, a lap or two later, I received a server message advising that Billy had disconnected.

I kept going anyway, expecting GPL to boot me out;   but I managed to find other cars on track.
By this time, Prib was out of whack so no idea if I was approaching the back of Bernie for a potential position or not, although I felt a little faster if ragged.

However, managed to sneak past Bernie with PG as he was putting a lap on us.

Looks as though the server replay shows me as disconnected lap9.  My replay shows me crossing the line around 31-32 times,  but presumably the server knows best?

Anyway, this track that initially seemed rather silly;  does end up having a kind of broken flow to it.
Although, it did take me a while to spot the stealth kerbing around the chicane area. Wondered why I kept nearly crashing there!

Cheers all,   not as fun as other tracks, but still good to be out there.
Dave.

Quite a good race for me had some early racing with Miner2049er, then some excellent racing chasing Rick65 until lap 21 when Bagrupp hit me, had to do a shift r then my stop and go, caught back up with Rick65 but lap 28 tried an overtake on inside of bend 2 and we touched making him spin, not sure whether my fault so waited for him which took some time, (not realizing he had been hit by another car and had to do a shift R). Rest of race uneventful but gifted back 5th place when Rick65 had to do his stop and go.

Grats to Philippe on win

Grats to Podium

Sorry you had a disco Gareth, happened to me a lot last season.

Congrats to Gareth for pole position and race fastest lap time. Terrible bad luck to go out on a disco.

And grats to the Philippe, Mike and Jani for the podium finishes-well done all.

My race started off with a poor start as I bogged down the engine and saw many of you charge on by before we ever made it to Virage de la Gare and when I did get there I stayed a bit too wide and got onto the marbles and ploughed into a hay bale. From there it was a long race but due to discos and other mishaps other drivers experienced I moved up into 4th on lap 27. Then there was the contact at Virage de la Gare on lap 28 that roguk mentioned. For a fraction of a second I thought I might recover but then I was airborne and saw the dreaded static/snow screen and had to do a shift R. I will say Roguk was most sporting to let me catch back up and we resumed our close racing. My next set back was of my own doing when I pulled in for the stop n go. Instead of simply coming to a stop and then going again, for reasons I don't know I actually sat in the pit for several seconds before resuming racing and that was enough to let Roguk overtake me.

And I experienced severe FPS issues on every lap as I approached the chicane. Reminiscent of the severe FPS issues every lap at Brands at T1. My system has more CPU, RAM and video memory than anything I've used in the past but this is the first time racing with the 60FPS patch. And so I wonder if the FPS issues are due to the 60FPS patch and if anyone knows, are there recommended core.ini settings that should be used with the 60FPS patch?

Yes, you need to make some changes in GEM+ graphics settings for 60fps.
- enable VSync!

But for better advice you must give us an idea of your CPU and GPU Roll Eyes

The problem with powerfull PC's and GPL is often that it is not recognized as a 3D app! So the GPU idles...

Also, setting the detail to 90-95% instead of 100% might help (some), even with modern systems...

It's a Radeon HD 7750.

The  AMD CCC has no trilinear filtering settings unless they are identified by some other term, i.e. tessalation? I use an older ATI driver version 6.14.10.12618 because newer drivers cause GPL to crash everytime with openGL in Win7.

I can run a newer ATI driver in Win10 with openGL without crashing but I've read Win10 downloads system updates and many other things which use some portion of system resources and does so at times of it's own choosing and therefore I've not bothered to risk using it for racing. Do you know anybody getting good online racing FPS with Win10?

My frame rate was dropping off to 30 and less in places and mostly was bad when in close company with other cars .
Prib was also "off air" so any lappery came from watching the flag man wave the blue , which pretty well meant most of the field .

Sorry to Rainier for the "incident" but at that time you were not in sight to me , I had no idea at all you were there or that this had happened until I was prompted to watch the replay by your report . I did reverse to regain the track but had left room on the inside of the corner for any cars following on the correct line , unfortunate you chose to go around the outside as I was recovering .

Ran out of fuel on the last lap , too late for pit stop ? not that it would have made a difference to my finish position .

Enjoyed the racing and the track in spite of all .

Grats to the podium , welcome back to Mike ( I will try to make thing a bit harder for you next time )  Wink

Philippe,
The selection of track is the decision of the Moderator (Robert). If Assen is not reliable we will probably drive at Zandvoort.

I have replaced Assen67 with Zandvoort. Assen67 has proven to be too unreliable (at least at 60fps, 67 mod). I will post the racethread tomorrow or Wednesday.
