Moderator's Report

Summary
The first four cars are able to break away from the field on the first lap. Tim leads the first two laps. Tristan overtakes Tim on lap three. Tim and Sam chase Tristan for the entire race. Clive was in fourth, just ahead of Dean for most of the race, until Clive has to save fuel. Doni held off Carlos for 18 laps. Carlos overtook him on lap 19. These two cars catch up with Clive with two laps to go. Also, the leaders Tristan and Tim catch this three car battle with two laps to go. This sets up a dramatic finish. On the last lap, Tristan is under pressure from Tim. Tristan has an incident while lapping a car, and gives the lead back to Tim. Tim finishes first, Tristan is second and Sam is third.

Everyone complied with the chassis restriction rules for this round of the championship.

Server replay time: 0h01m15s

Lap 1 - 2nd hairpin - Cookie leaves his braking a little too late, and accidently rear ends Philippe. Philippe\'s car then crashes into David Rainier\'s car. David had to reset and Stop & Go.

Simple Rear End Shunt: Penalty 1 Place - The victim was in full control but braked early compared with the average for the division. The shunter had not followed the victim at a safe distance for a lap or two. The shunter was in full control.

Server replay time: 0h01m47s

Lap 1 - Virage du Parc - Bastian is following Fran, Carlos and Doni on the first lap. All of these cars slow down for a different incident. Bastian is going slower than normal, but he is still surprised. Bastian uses full braking, but he can not prevent rear ending Fran. Fran\\\'s car turns over. Fran uses a shift-R and Stop & Go.

Simple Rear End Shunt: Penalty 1 Place - The victim had partially lost control before contact and consequently his line was unusual. The shunter was in full control.

Server replay time: 0h13m36s

Lap 10 - Fran\'s engine explodes. Fran performs two shift-R in this race. His first shift-R is lap one, and his second shift-R is on lap 10. Fran showed good sportsmanship by reporting his offence in the UKGPL forum.

The F2 championship page states DQ for multiple resets, and takes precedence over the general UKGPL rules.

Server replay time: 0h46m15s

Lap 34 - Turn 2 - It is the last lap, and Tim is pressuring Tristan for the lead. Tristan approaches several lapped cars at the beginning of the last lap. Doni mistakenly thought that the leaders had just finished their last lap, but in fact, they had one more. Doni is also fighting for position. Tristan is unable to lap Doni on the straight. Tristan tries to overtake Doni on the inside of turn 2. Doni also goes to the inside line of turn 2, and Tristan rear ends Doni. Both cars continue, Tristan loses the lead of the race, and finishes in 2nd place.

UKGPL SEASON 30 F2 CHAMPIONSHIP – Round 3 : Pau
The Pau Grand Prix (French: Grand Prix de Pau) is a motor race held in Pau, in the Pyrénées-Atlantiques department of southwestern France. The French Grand Prix was held at Pau in 1930, leading to the annual Pau Grand Prix being inaugurated in 1933. It was not run during World War II.

The race takes place around the centre of the city, where the streets are closed to form a circuit, and its 68 runnings have variously conformed to the rules of Grand Prix racing and Formula One, Formula Two and Formula 3000, Formula Three, Formula Libre, sports car racing, and touring car racing.
The winningest driver at Pau is Jim Clark, with 4 wins.

Drivers will have a free car choice

Well done to Tim & Trist! My race involved chasing them to no avail. Their superior pace and a couple of errors late race from me paid to my chances. Nevertheless, reasonably happy with 3rd.

I think this is the first time I've ever driven around Pau, and what a fantastic challenge it is  Smiley. Really enjoy racing the street circuits, even if the actual racing is lacking somewhat.

In viewing my replay cap, it would appear that I owe Tristan an apology for not moving over to allow him to pass to start what was his last lap.  I had received several blue flags approaching the S/F line but chose to ignore them.  Why?  The lap prior, I received a flash on my pit board that read '2 laps remaining'.  I completed that lap and, therefore, had but one to run upon crossing the S/F line again.  Correct?  Believing that I was about to be lapped but not wishing to give way and ruin a chance to fight for position, I did not yield believing that the leader...whomever that was...was receiving the checkered flag just behind me.  I cannot explain the discrepancy in my lap counts as clearly the replay shows that I was only starting my lap33, not my lap34 as I believed.

Sorry, again, Tris.  Sad

Really enjoyed the battle, Carlos!  Great drive, bud!  Smiley

Check these lines in your core.ini:

Quote
[ Replay ]
replayMemoryOverride = 128000

That tells Windows to reserve a given amount of your memory (in bytes) to store the replay. Set it too large and some tracks may have trouble loading (Spa67 especially), too small and you lose part of the replay. 60fps replays take more space than 36fps, so the default needs to be changed. AFAIK, any multiple of 2000 is valid. Try the 128000 I use, or even larger (180000 is commonly recommended on SRMZ).

race blown by Ronnie getting bounced back on track after going off at Ave de Musset & then by Dave Curtis getting it horribly wrong in the pitlane & spinning into the middle of the track causing me to reset & so SnG which cemented my battle to not be last. Pretty disappointing race overall.

Really feel being obliged to SnG after such an incident is bit harsh...

First, I think it isa great idea to make everyone use a different car for each race, it adds a little unknown element and certainly spices up the grids.

Grats to Tim, Tris and Sam....some new world records amongst those lap times!!!

4th on the grid for me was as good as I might have hoped for and when the race started, my plan was just to stick with the leading trio and hope that they made mistakes.......they did not appear to make any significant errors!!!

Ray's incident early in the race, gave me a clear track in my mirrors so I could simply concentrate on staying with the leaders. Boy!!! did I have to concentrate. They were running race pace at my best qually effort and I found myself almost closing my eyes and hoping that the car would make stop in time to make the corners at some points. After about 10 laps of racing on the absolute limit, and having had a few miraculous escapes, I decided that discretion was the better option and backed off slightly. Sam maintained his pace and pulled away, still chasing the leading pair and I ended up circulating all alone.
4th place looked like the best I could hope for unless the leaders screwed up. But around lap 20 I glanced at the fuel level and got a nasty shock! I had gone with the setup fuel level showing sufficient for 36 laps and had assumed that would be OK.........should know better!!

A quick mental calculation showed that 5 gallons would not get me through the remaining 14 laps. I tried short shifting and taking corners one gear higher but it upset my flow and I made a complete mess of the approach to the chicane and allowed Dean to get right on my tail. The temptation to push hard and try to pull away from Dean was strong, but after a few laps it was clear that I would not reach the flag if I maintained that pace, so I eased over and allowed Dean past.
The last 10 laps were frustrating as cars caught and passed me and I dare not contest the place. I was actually praying for the leaders to lap me and save me one lap and I was keeping the revs down and almost cruising for the last 8 laps just hoping to get to the flag.

I did get to the flag and felt a great deal of satisfaction in having nursed the car for about 14 laps. the engine was coughing for the last 3 laps and the fuel guage dropped to zero just as  passed the pits and the pressure was at 2 psi.............but I made it and I don't really care what place it was, that was edge of the seat and very satisfying.
It might have been better if I had put a couple of extra gallons in at the start  Undecided

I read noe that is possible only one shift-R.I have suffered an overturning in the lap1(thank you Bastian)and than an engine explosion.

The day after...

I just ran off a series of 5-lap novice races with/without the AI at Pau and the results are startling.  It would seem that a near-impossible, virtually unbelievable glitch surfaced.  In a nutshell, cars about to lapped lose a lap off their pit board.  HUH?  Yup.  I ran three races where my countdown went from three laps remaining directly to one lap remaining.  Never seen or heard of this kind of thing occurring in GPL.  But this only happens if the leaders are getting within close proximity of your car.  How close to have this kick in I don't really know.  In the final race of the test, I dialed the AI speed way back...they were cutting 16's...and finished close to the winner.  My lap board read properly in its countdown without skipping a lap.  Most confusing.  Its like my data was being supplanted with the leader's with respect to the remaining laps to run.

I'm going to post details of this over on the SRMZ where some sharp track editors will probably have an answer.

I watched the scene. You are not under control of your car. I approach the corner with 90 km/h, usually later with 120.
When I see you going direction cross country i'm in full breaking but i have no where else to go and i hit you. thats what we call a race accident.
Watch the rpy from my view.
