Season 30 Professionals Trophy – Round 3 – ZandvoortFor the third round of the season we go to Circuit Park Zandvoort in the Netherlands. On 7 August 1948, the first race was held on the new permanent Zandvoort circuit. Soon more races followed on the course, with the first official Formula 1 Grand Prix becoming a milestone in 1952. Up until the mid-eighties, heroes like Alberto Ascari, Juan Manuel Fangio, Stirling Moss, Graham Hill, Jim Clark, Jackie Stewart, James Hunt, Nelson Piquet and Alain Prost braved the challenging course in the Dutch dunes and won at Zandvoort. After the Grand Prix of 1985, the Formula 1 left Zandvoort, but the seaside resort and its impressive race track were not forgotten. Many years after the last Grand Prix, the ‘racing drivers of the day’ still talk about their experience on the race track where the challenging corners ‘separated the men from the boys’. Assen has proven to be too unreliable recently, therefore wouldn't take the risk and replaced it with Zandvoort instead...

Thanks Axel for server and replay (first post)! It's great to have UKGPL3 up and running again, cheers Paul! Sorry you had probs in the race Axel... I had a great quali with twice a sub28 lap without tow, a PB! Still only P5 since the times were so close. First laps were eventful, but most cars in front went off, and by then was 3.5s behind Roo...reeled him in tenth by tenth, had to check up twice not rearending him when he went sideways and hit the kerbs, but that's racing...didn't really have the gearing for a tow, I wanted to be able to do good laps in clean air, so Roo basically only had to make sure staying on track at the infield...last laps made mistakes pushing too much and burning my tires, and had to settle for P2 Great job and a very well deserved win by Roo, well done mate! Also good recovery by Tris Shame for a relatively small grid, yet the racing was great from my point of view...commiserations to the DNF's...noticed Clive was gaining on me at some point but then he was gone sadly... Thanks for racing all

Seems I had a similarly good quali session, twice setting a new pb, without a tow. I had had a slight contact with Ronnie on my first flying lap but decided to carry on & see if the car was ok & it seemed to be... I couldn't do the same laptimes in my Q2 with an 'undamaged' car though, so thanks Ronnie! Still, I was surprised to be on pole. I got through T1 first & after a few laps I knew if I kept it clean I could keep Axel behind. I tried to break the tow down the straight & opened a gap before Robert appeared in 2nd. At first I could just about keep the gap but slowly Robert closed through to me having to push hard to try to maintain the gap, cooking tyres, making small mistakes & his incredible pace in the bt7 The second half of the race was intense but I figured Robert's only chances were into the 2 hairpins & if I made no major mistakes through the dunes I should be ok. Luckily Robert is sharp enough to avoid contact when we make mistakes in front of him. It would have been so easy for him to nerf me off & take the win. Respect I got lucky with 2 laps to go when Robert went deep into T1 & I was able to take the chequer for my first ukgpl win Thanks for the racing, grats to all finishers & thanks to the admins. championship spreadsheet

Two large glasses of wine = at least 2 bad down shifts and over revving Grats to Roo on his maiden win..... much overdue IMHO. abusing the engine = blown header The moral is don't drink and drive After a rather nice meal and the wine I fired up the PC and joined the server with about 20mins to go. For the first time ever I had a square green panel instead of the normal steering wheel in the Brabham, So I quit and re joined hoping that it would correct itself, but it didn't. As a result I could not see the rev counter, so I turned off the steering wheel and arms and drove a car that seemed very odd. I used a set up that I have used before and for some inexplicable reason ( probably the wine) I thought it would be a good idea to lower a couple of the gear ratios!!! The first few laps went well and I picked up a couple of places as others tried to cut the grass in various places. Tris had recovered from an off behind me and I was working hard to close on Robert ahead and Tris at a safe distance behind, so that he could not make an attack into Tarzan. Robert was very quick in his BT7 and the gap was closing, but very, very slowly and it was going to take a lot of laps to get at him. Then the engine lost power as the reduced ratios and clumsy gearchanges took their revenge. Must remember to go back and put those ratios right. Grats to all finishers

I made a stupid beginners mistake raising the left front tire pressure after my last race fuel test... So my LF overcooked after a while and I was not able to keep the pace, so I left in frustration

The moral is don't drink and drive I always drink and drive on here - I generally drive better Apologies for not attending, I was tired and as I've got rough dates for my placements now I have no real need to compete. I have maybe one more round per championship I can make before i head off for India and Japan / While in Japan I hope to apply for an audience with HER in order to broach whether perhaps SHE will allow the Waza's to return and sweep all asunder once more..

Not always, but usually drink a few beers when racing, makes me less nervous, there is a tipping point though So, kind of the same like Tim I used a set up that I have used before and for some inexplicable reason ( probably the wine) I thought it would be a good idea to lower a couple of the gear ratios!!! Not always, but usually drink a few beers when racing, makes me less nervous, there is a tipping point though So, kind of the same like Tim I did the alcohol versus thc test once & found thc to impair performance less than alcohol but these days I'm a clean driver/racer & I seem to be able to concentrate better & make less mistakes as a result ... or is it that I'm physically fit now too ? I dunno, but I do believe fitness makes a difference to concentration & therefore performance. That said, there's no replacement for talent & I don't have that in bucket loads that's for sure

Congratulations on your maiden victory, Roo! Great job. And overdue, too, imo.
Well done to Robert for a fine P2 on home turf. Nice recovery by Tris for rounding out the podium.
Hard luck for Axel and Clive. One way to avoid the goofy steering wheel glitch, Clive, is to nominate the lite carset instead of the full GP65 graphics option. In qualifying, I browsed around in the cockpits of others and noticed that the BT11 pilots had anything but a proper steering wheel facing them. Initially, I saw a square with the snow storm you typically see when you invert your ride. Later, in viewing the replay cap, that image was exchanged for what looked like a nose skin of a Rob Walker car. Curious indeed.
My race went very well. Just too bloody slow. Or rather, you guys are too bloody fast! LOL! Initially, I had a good scrap going with Carlos...he and I seem to be engaging in many fine duels of late; cool!...but I managed to edge away bit by bit as the race progressed. Dean fell off in Tarzan and I hoped to be able to latch onto him but no, he edged away. Ray had recovered from his early offs to challenge and I let him by without a fight as clearly, he was substantially faster and I had hopes that he'd row me back up to Dean where I might get another shot at the red car. Nope. Couldn't manage that either.
I find Zandvoort a good challenge and enjoy my time there but it is so very tiring. So many back and forths wear on me. With this in mind, by half-distance, I resolved to just get the Honda home incident-free and, in that, I at least managed to succeed.

You may be right about the "lite" carset Doni, but I have never had this problem before, although I have read about others suffering? I would not have put Zandvoort as a graphics heavy circuit, and I am positive I would have raced the BT11 there at some time in the past. Turning off the drivers arms ( and steering wheel) was a simple fix that allowed me to see the rev counter, but it did feel a little odd to have that empty cockpit. Guess I will have to wait and see what happens at the next round.

The Brabham wheel is an old problem, fixed after many years, and now forgotten. Here is the fix : http://home.planet.nl/~aquisate/Downloads.htm Download : 65mod Raised. I suggest everyone grabs this, and keeps a copy for future installs. MECH has combined the wheel fix with cars which do not drag on the road unrealistically. If you run at minimum height, the fix corrects height & wheel.
