Season 30 Historics Trophy – Round 3 – Reims

PLEASE READ THIS ANNOUCEMENT by Billy
Unfortunately we have not had a divisional moderator for this series. Thanks to David Rainier for posting Race 1. I will be taking over duties temporarily & there will be a small variation in the Handicap system to get a wider range of cars on the grid to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the 1966 championship. Races will be 3 Litre OR 2 Litre events. BUT for 3L events drivers can take any car = 3L or 2L. For 2Lraces Pro / Works drivers can take any 2L car and the Amateur / Privateers drivers can take any car – including any 3Lcar. Fairly simple. Please check the choice for each race. 3 Litre cars will be used on the faster circuits. Ideally this system would have been in place for the whole season, but I trust you will understand matters. (Monaco would have been a 2L race).

The 3rd round of the season will be at Reims in France.  The circuit is basically several long straights with a couple of hairpins and a few cornfields. Catching a tow is what this track is about. It normally produces close racing. Reims-Gueux was first established in 1926 on the public roads between the small French villages of Thillois and Gueux. The circuit had two very long straights between the towns, and teams strove to maximize straight-line speed of their cars; many slipstream battles ensued. Race organizers actually felled trees and demolished old houses in order to make the circuit even quicker. International racing came with the first official Formula One event occurring in 1950, the inaugural year of the Formula One world championship. The circuit layout was shortened and changed in 1952 to bypass the town

For this season season we are following the original 1966 calendar, so Round 3 is Reims.
Any driver who completes the season will have a GPL rank time for 66s.

See above.

The full time drivers can start to practice as soon as the server is available.  Reserve drivers can also join as soon as the server becomes available but must leave the server with 35 minutes of qualifying left, for a total of 5 minutes; this will allow any remaining full timers to join.  If there is enough space on the grid, the reserve drivers will be able to rejoin when there are 30 mins of qualifying left.  .

Drivers are required to complete 50% distance to score points.

There is no Red Zone for this series, moderating will be on reported incidents only. Please remember that an additional 1 place penalty is awarded for Lap 1 incidents.

Please restrict chat to pit messages including at the end of the race until ALL drivers still racing have crossed the line.

Axel,

Could you please clarify this rule : "drivers will have to select a different chassis for each race and at least one from each group."
Is it still true for season 30 ?

Crap! I don't know how to take that turn with somebody behind me. I managed to avoid the field on lap 1. I didn't avoid it a few laps later. Sad

Have fun guys.

Great battle with Dean until a piston wanted to see daylight after 12 laps...

Bit of Ferrari festival which was a shame. So good luck Dave R for being different, I'm rooting for you. Also sorry about the slight contact Piero I tried to leave room for what I thought was some great racing. I just hope you felt the same as well. See you all next time, hopefully with a bit more of a spread of cars!

I was lucky that race. How my car survived that shunt on lap 2 with Piero and Bastian I don't know. It did make the rest of the race exciting however, racing through the field with battles galore with Piero, Marco and Doni  Smiley. Me and Doni raced together for almost half the race with an excellent battle. The Ferrari power did give me an edge, and was just enough to slingshot into 2nd on the last straight.

Congrats to Dean for the win and to Doni for rounding the podium  Smiley.

Grats on the victory, Dean!  Must have been a little lonely up there, no?

Great recoveries(and that's plural)from Sam to earn a P2 finish!  Well done.

And a surprise P3 pour moi.  Wasn't expecting that in the least cuz...

I was watching the IMSA sportcars from The Glen on TV in the afternoon but dozed off for a nap.  No telling how long I was kipping but I certainly did wake with a start and looked at the clock.  16:26 hours.  MAYDAY!  Reims qualifying closes in 4m!  A mad rush to join the server and only enough time to run a few hundred metres to check my steering calibration.  It seemed OK so I parked it fast and gassed up.  To say that I was lucky to even join the event is an understatement.

The Lap03 monster shunt...had my eyes closed for most of it...allowed me to surge through for P3 not all that far behind Dean but I couldn't quite close enough to catch his slipstream.  Marco was close astern and soon we were exchanging positions.  From seemingly out of nowhere, Sam joined us but almost immediately, I was sure that he threw away his chances with a looping spin in Thillios.  Not so.  He was able to recover very quickly and tack on to Marco and I again.  We three dueled with numerous passing and repassing but I was under no illusion as to my chances.  The BRM P83 is just too massive compared to the red cars.  The best I could do was hang on and hope for ill fortune for my running mates.  Marco was first to falter with a serious off exiting T1.  He took a wild ride but at least avoided the corn field.  That left Sam and I to duke it out and while I could engineer a pass given optimum placement, to prevail at the S/F line on the last lap was something of a pipe dream.  That's pretty much how it shook out.  Sam gunned me down on the home straight to take P2 by a couple of car lengths.  Grats, again, Sam, and that was great fun!  Smiley

Congratulations to Dean and to the podium.
Sorry for Axel

I apologize to Bastian to have hit him on the straight, I did not see you I was looking around and I wanted to take the trail of who I was before ..
Apologize to all those who, because of my accident had consequences!

Pity Ronnie were going to take a little group and you following me you were put to spin strong, suddenly you you went to turn in 1:05:40

It has confirmed that Brands Hatch will be on August 21?

I was having a freeze 2 minutes to Qualification End.
before I had a got Starting position due to the tow i got but after 3 Laps of fighting there was the piero acciddent ruining my race.

Piero, its ok, sometimes it's hard to see everyone around. I experiencend that as well. When you came close I was just about to react, there was still some space on the right but it was too late.

Don't know how my car survived that horror with alle wheels, no suspension- and no engine damage.
Was out of any tow but brought it home at least.
