Season 30 Privateers Trophy – Round 4 –Estoril71

Welcome back to GPL racing from the summer break. The summer football tournament was won by Portugal so rather coincidental that we visit that country for Round 4. the track has a modern layout, having hosted the Portuguese grand prix from 1984 to 1996. The lap record is held by Britain’s Damon Hill. We won’t get anywhere  near 1,14 with the 67 cars but it will be good to get back to racing.

Race List = iGOR
Server = UKGPL_8
IP = see iGOR
Race date = Sunday 14-08-16
Time = 21:00 UK time (21:00 GMT)
Track = Estoril
Race length = 27 1aps (50 minutes)
Variant = 1967
60fps patch used   = 60fpsV2newmod
Damage Model = Advanced
Qualifying time = 30 minutes

Replays Available here
Special Note – I am having great difficulty downloading the replays from the temporary site – Sendspace. As such there will be some delays in publishing the moderation reports from some races.

Driver lists can be found at the Privateers Trophy page

HANDICAPPING
The tokens system remains for all drivers.
In the interest of having a competitive championship the faster drivers are requested to voluntarily select car that suits your ability, from Race 1. If you are consistently qualifying at the front of the grid,  finishing on the podium & recording fastest lap then you should be not be taking a faster car.
The championship will be reviewed after Race 3. Drivers may then be allocated to one of the following handicap groups
Group 1 BRM, Honda, or Cooper,
Group 2 as above + Brabham
Group 3 as above + Ferrari
For Round 4 the following handicap applies
David Rainier & Jani Posta – Group 3.

Drivers are permitted one Reset / Shift R per race, followed by a compulsory Stop & Go within two laps. If you take your reset on the last lap 15 seconds will be added to your time. A second Shift R will result in Disqualification unless it is the direct result of the first incident e.g. hit when respawning.
If you are the first car entering the pit lane to take your SnG aim to bring the car to a halt alongside the last pit stall - closest to the exit. As soon as your car is stationary you can go. You won't be penalised if you stop a little short or beyond the pit stall.
In the event that more than one car takes a SnG at the same time the following cars can perform their Stop & Go in line.
No overtaking in the pit lane.

Until the number of registered drivers exceeds grid capacity drivers may join the server as soon as it appears in IGOR.

Drivers are required to complete 50% distance to score points.

There is no Red Zone for this series, moderating will be on reported incidents only. Please remember that an additional 1 place penalty is awarded for Lap 1 incidents.

Please restrict chat to pit messages including at the end of the race until ALL drivers still racing have crossed the line.

David, Jani did not score points at Jarama but was very competitive at Monaco & Riverside in the Cooper. The handicap is partly points & partly skill levels.

I've just had a short training session, I haven't driven this track since 2005 Shocked First two turns are like Kyalami, the other parts are StJovite, except last turn which is Riverside Cheesy

1:51 at the moment in the Cooper. I aim a low 1:50 but the race will be about keeping the car far from that deep/sticky gravel. Good luck everyone! Smiley

After a very long absence from GPL, I would like to take part in this race. I've voted in the registration thread. Anything else I should do?

Welcome Syd.  I'm just one of the guys, but can suggest you try joining a practice Server from IGOR, before racetime.   There's usually one provided race evening, and maybe a day early.  If successful, try following another car a lap or two.

Password will appear at top of race page, 24hrs before racetime.  You've joined the slower of our 2 classes, so presume you've compared laptimes at a track or two.  Happy hunting!  Cool

The server is running at iGOR

Test it and make shure you have checked the right options in GEM+

Just tested it. I was able to connect manually via mp screen. Nobody else was on, I drove a few laps in the brabham, I was around 1.51.

Welcome Syd

What are these options :

head movement
Ffb2

Never saw them  Huh

I think the only mandatory option to join the race is 60fpsv2newmod.

Where have you been David?  Get the head movement patch from SRMZ - you will like it! Maybe look at the video from a maddog first?  Also a good discussion on trail braking ATM. Grin

Brr made a imo better ForceFeedback patch "ffb2" to avoid all unnecessary damping effects Wink

Quote from: brr
The ffb update does allow nonzero damping values in Core.ini, but everyone using such values should be very careful. The way damping works, as far as I understand it, is by adding a small value to the force which is opposite to the rate of change. So if the force is increasing, damping adds a negative term and vice versa. This becomes unstable when there are rapid changes, like hitting the armco. I tracked the ffb values briefly and found that they shoot through the roof (five-figure torque values) when hitting an armco if damping is used. My ffb patch removes other kind of damping, which amplifies the effect. So to be safe, start with quite small values and increase gradually. The damping effects are nice, but they are likely to be oscillations of the damping equations. The damping correction overshoots, and then overshoots back in the other direction etc..
