Season 30 Historics Trophy – Round 4 – Brands Hatch

PLEASE READ THIS ANNOUCEMENT by Billy
Unfortunately we have not had a divisional moderator for this series. Thanks to David Rainier for posting Race 1. I will be taking over duties temporarily & there will be a small variation in the Handicap system to get a wider range of cars on the grid to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the 1966 championship. Races will be 3 Litre OR 2 Litre events. BUT for 3L events drivers can take any car = 3L or 2L. For 2Lraces Pro / Works drivers can take any 2L car and the Amateur / Privateers drivers can take any car – including any 3Lcar. Fairly simple. Please check the choice for each race. 3 Litre cars will be used on the faster circuits. Ideally this system would have been in place for the whole season, but I trust you will understand matters. (Monaco would have been a 2L race).

The 4th round of the season will be at Brands Hatch, located near Swanley, in the garden of England, Kent.  First used as a dirt track motorcycle circuit on farmland, it hosted 12 runnings of the British Grand Prix between 1964 and 1986 and currently holds many British and International racing events. This will be a 2 Lite race.

Gerhard Berger once said that Brands Hatch is "the best circuit in the world". Paddock Hill Bend is a renowned corner.

For this season season we are following the original 1966 calendar, so Round 4 is Brands Hatch.
Any driver who completes the season will have a GPL rank time for 66s.

Race List = iGOR
Server = UKGPL_8
IP = see iGOR
Race date = Sunday 21-08-2016
Time = 21:00 UK time (21:00 GMT)
Track = brands67
Race length = 30 laps (50 minutes)
Variant = 1966 (2 Liters cars only)
60fps patch used   = 60fpsV2newmod
Damage Model = Pro
Qualifying time = 30-45 minutes
Replays Available = here

Driver lists and token rules can be found on the championship standings page

HANDICAPPING
See above.

The full time drivers can start to practice as soon as the server is available.  Reserve drivers can also join as soon as the server becomes available but must leave the server with 35 minutes of qualifying left, for a total of 5 minutes; this will allow any remaining full timers to join.  If there is enough space on the grid, the reserve drivers will be able to rejoin when there are 30 mins of qualifying left.  .

Drivers are required to complete 50% distance to score points.

There is no Red Zone for this series, moderating will be on reported incidents only. Please remember that an additional 1 place penalty is awarded for Lap 1 incidents.

Please restrict chat to pit messages including at the end of the race until ALL drivers still racing have crossed the line.

Have Fun!

Pit position stuck me in haybales along with a few others, so no qualy possible. Went to grid and CTD! All went ok on practice server last night.
Oh dear, I wouldn't have bothered the scorers anyway.
It's good to be back.

What (not) happend in qualy and in the race does not really matter after all, as I see I failed to choose a 2L car... My fault..

Crap screen freeze!

There was little suspense about who would likely win, but there was a lot left with 2nd,3rd, and 4th positions.

Thanks guys.

Shame, it was the wrong track.ini wich has -15.75 instead of -15 for the pit allocation...

My fault! SORRY

My apologies Piero.  death

I did not allow for your heavier car braking earlier, but I should have known. I will put in a report to the moderators about it.

Great fun (for the first half anyway), thanks Cookie, Evil, and a couple of others.

Then engine went south (10 or 11 laps left), and limping around 15 secs. off previous pace.  Sad

No prib here (D3DV2 working much better than OGLV2 under Win10, unlike 7 where they were almost equivalent), so hope I stayed out of the way when I should have (tried to be very predictable, at least). Grats Evil, Tris, and Rob.

Poor Andy. Noticed you missed the start...hated to see that... Sad Thanks for asking me to join this race Andy! Many of the UKGPL meeting were attending, which was fun...

Decided not to qualify and to start from the pitlane to have a fun race. Tried to be patient, hope I didn't upset anyone. Halfway or so a car rejoined on the raceline at Druids, something I didn't expect. Maybe should have done a better job there. Lost some time, and positions, and almost made the same mistake rejoining, but just managed to stall. After that was pushing for some fast laps, and went off at Surtees going in too fast. Got lucky to finish the race...

Well done all finishers, commiserations to the retirements, especially those with CTD's/screenfreezes. I wonder if it has something to do with track version/fixes, or simply the 60FPS patch...maybe I'm just lucky...

Glad I joined the race, it reminded me how fun it is to race without expectations. Thanks all for racing and the courtesy! Smiley

PS: thanks to Axel (Cookie) for the server duties!

I was one of those in hay bales, so no qually and started last, 16th. I decided to take it easy early, with pro conditions and no preparation. Took a while to settle down, I was especially bad at getting out of the long lefthander onto the back straight. After a while I got into a rhythm. I was running in 10th, pulling away from 11th (Nobrakes at the time) and slowly falling behind the next car. After a few more cars had trouble, I found myself in 6th place with a very fast eagle quickly filling my mirrors. I decided to let him through rather than fight and lose time to those behind me. Race was maybe at about 2/3 distance at this point, and I saw a brabham by the track coming back. I just didn't manage to get by, but I was very close behind. It was Andreas Gebhardt and we proceeded to have a great fight until the end. I just wasn't good at the South Bank turn, he would always pull a little away there and I would catch back up on next two quick righthanders. I think it was a couple of laps to go when we cought Alex Cookie, and Andreas  managed to just squeeze by. In the end we finished barely a second apart in 4-5-6 places. Great race in the end Smiley. Almost managed to brake my absolute Brands PB set way back in 2008 (35.917 vs 36.093 tonight).

Thanks to Billy for the race announcement and Axel for the server.

I drove much better than I expected given that I've hardly switched my computer on for 6 months.  It didn't take long to get back into a rhythm but I made too many mistakes to challenge for a decent haul of points. Just pleased not to get in anyone's way.

Congrats Clive, Tristan, and Rob! Wow! When I was discoed, I thought Tristan had it as long as he finished. How did you do that Clive? Excellent Rob, from the back to the podium. I'm not surprised though.

Thanks for the tow in qualifying Axel. I thought I should be able to break 1:35.5 at some point without a tow, but you made it easy for me. Smiley

It was hectic at times. I wasn't exactly sure what was happening. I knew I couldn't be gawking or I'd get involved too.

Sorry about bumping you at Druids Clive. I worried I had ended your race. I was glad to see you were still racing not long afterwards.

Early in the race Clive had me laughing. He was getting pretty sloppy but he was still going fast. A little later, I was in front and I was worse. I couldn't drive consistently at the moment so I got out of the way. I had to do that same with Dean.

Clive, that was an excellent pass on Dean at Druids. I was worried I was going to see another car or two go off. That made me smile when I saw you had made it.

Somehow I ended up in 2nd with Clive and Dean not too far behind me. I didn't think I could keep Clive from catching me but I was going to try. I figured if he did catch me, he'd drag Dean back to me too.

That a lot fun while it lasted. I had a shot at the podium. I'd like to have seen if Clive could get away from me. With the tow, I think I could stay with him.

It's a shame about the accidents, pit lane positioning, and discoes. Good fun otherwise.

Darn! I had a shot at a win. I set my fast lap on lap 9, tried a little too hard on lap 10, calmed down on lap 11, and I was getting in a good rhythm on lap 12. Clive's spin at Paddock Hill Bend shortly after I discoed was likely all the gap I needed. Dean and Tristan's late troubles would have handed it to me.

Just a general point on car choice. Jani was free to take a 3L car because he is driving in the Privateers / Amateurs championships. Equally Bastian & Phil could have taken 3L cars.
I find the 66 mod harder than others & Brands takes skill to be consistent & quick. Even with the BT19 I was the slowest car in the field but at least managed a few laps dicing with a couple of drivers after they had made errors.
