The trouble with that method, especially with GT3s, is you don't always get the car choice you require. For example many tracks are pit limited (yes I know some have modded versions that allow more) to say 24 cars. The pre-selection method, which is how we run the practice server, would limit each car quantity to 3 when there are 8 car choices. Whatever method we use someone will no doubt find a way to moan.

Hence I said, for a fun race, why use booking. We would never reach the limit of 24, and I am sure we wouldn't get more than 8 people picking the same car.

For series I get the booking system, as it also helps with skins etc.

Despite not getting any practice in before hand, that was a really close and exciting race!

Struggled to hook up a clean lap in quali, and it was my first time on softs... (I don't know how others managed with them, they were cooking so much they were giving far less grip than the mediums for me). Eventually got a clean-ish lap in, and started mid pack.

Had a poor start but somehow managed to move up on the first lap (Jonzo had a small off and it was super close getting back on, trying to leave enough space while also defending Maikel!) Settled down and tried my absolute hardest to keep Maikel behind, and did so for a couple of laps but the inevitible happened when he took advantage of my mistake.

After that I was slowly losing touch with the three ahead, but was able to keep the three behind at an arms length. Near the end I began reeling in the front runners, though not nearly enough until Mark Ekins had a moment and I almost managed to catch him! I was hoping to keep on him and try and force an error, but just the next lap i made the same mistake and was very lucky to hold of the Peter.

Came across the line where I started, bang in the middle in 4th. Also with us changing the amount of laps i wasn't 100% sure when to stop! I almost stopped a lap earlier, thankfully I realised everyone else was still going...

Also, did anyone manage to catch a replay? Wouldn't mind watching the first lap again, think it was action packed!

I'll upload my replay when I get back in an hour or two.

I agree with Jeffrey on the booking system, it's great for championships but for single races you can just use the normal non-booking passworded stuff. (I'll admit, I raced on a few public servers  Grin )
Could try it next single race.

I like the gt2 short championship idea though  Cool

It would be a good idea to start sooner rather than later, hopefully people are still here from the GT3 series, and haven't drifted away just yet. Its not like we only get one chance at it, there will be events/ series afterwards when we can do something else if people feel they cant drive these/ what ever is chosen.

I understood that Porsche DLCs were going to be primarily road and old race cars. Don't think I remember seeing anything too modern, or a GT3 spec car that can be raced against other manufacturers. 'm sure they published what was going to be coming in the first pack.

Don't get so defensive Pete! It would have worked fine for the GT2s with only 3 cars each. Yes it clearly stated booking, so people cant really complain but it is a bit rigid in that you cant really join once booking period is over.

I jumped into the Corvette as it looked like we were a bit heavy on the BMWs with a minute to go! And that Gary can be quick on his day, Simon and MK I thought it might make things a bit closer.
Having Simon in front all race actually helped to calm down and not push too hard as I could only follow him round, so braking a little earlier. Felt like I could have gone a bit quicker tho at times! Hadnt really noticed the tires go off but I just had a lap or so of locking up and missing the same corners each time which allowed Maikel through. Almost had Gary on me as well in the last lap but he seemed to drop away.

Something clearly happened in the first corner or so as everyone behind seemed to change position!

Cheers for the replay Maikel, will check it out when I get home later.

I think the start was fairly clean from what I remember, I didn't see any contact but I think there was some switching of positions.
And yeah, I had the slowest most pathetic off's you've ever seen, I don't know how/why I didn't manage to correct it and keep it on the track  laugh It was the downhill turn 5, i'd already slowed down but just didn't get it turned, slowly ran wide then got on the gravel.

Anyway I'm looking froward to something again next week. I wouldn't mind driving something other than a 'conventional' car, maybe something vintage like the Escort or Alfa GTA, or go all out and try and tame the Mercedes C9?  Grin Whatever we're driving, I'm up for it.

The only two modern GT cars announced till now are the Cayman GT4 Clubsport and the 911 GT3 Cup , but i'm with you, if the 911 GT3R will be part of the Porsche lineup in AC then I doubt that it will come with the first of the three DLCs.

Looks like our sneaky shortened race means Dave's importer got it wrong!
Have you messaged him to get it fixed when he returns from his holiday? (Don't want to be denied a rare win!) Grin Grin

scared

Fun? Aren't all races supposed to be fun?  Kiss

A one off race rather than a series yes, but it was contended within the spirit of serious competition  shifty to which I did my usual zero minutes practice and just turn up with 5 mins left of practice to hack together some laps and hope for the best. I Am Not Worthy
