Moderator's Report

SUMMARY

Bastian Grupp takes his first win of the season, setting the fastest lap of the race also. Philippe Girard finishes second, and Dave Rainier rounds out the podium.

Polesitter Jani Posta missed the start.

Server replay time: 0h48m58s

Billy Nobrakes did a reset in the last lap and 15s will be added to his racetime, losing a position to Mike James.

If a driver makes a shift-R on the last lap then, depending on the layout of the pit lane and position of the finish line, it may be possible for a driver to take the Stop and Go at the end of the last lap and cross the finish line in the pit lane. If this is not possible or the driver elects not to do it then the moderator may apply a reduced time penalty (normally 15 seconds) on the basis that the driver did not have sufficient opportunity to perform the Stop and Go.

  • Billy Nobrakes — Failing to take Stop & Go after Shift-R — 15.000 seconds added

Season 30 Amateurs Trophy – Round 6 – Nürburgring

We move to Germany to race at the legendary Nürburgring - Nordschleife. Since its construction (1925 - 1927), the Nordschleife has enjoyed a reputation as a terrifying and merciless route through the Eifel forests. An English journalist who visited the Nordschleife during the opening race on 18 June 1927 even concluded “that it seemed as if a reeling, drunken giant had been sent out to determine the route”. The Formula 1 pilot Sir John Young Jackie Stewart – after all a three-time world champion in 1969, 1971 and 1973 – was so impressed by the circuit that he gave it the name which it will probably never lose: Green Hell (Grüne Hölle).
Racing and winning on the Nordschleife has always been very special for racing drivers, because the track is one of the most demanding in the world. Tricky corners, treacherous crests, steep inclines and gradients and constantly changing road surfaces demand great skill from the driver and put vehicles to a hard test.

The honourable thing would be taking a slower car (Ams have free car choice), but I'm not handicapping Philippe  Wink

Since we are going to the Green Hell, I will play the devil's advocate (bad joke). My hope is that Philippe stays in the same chassis this season, but then returns to the Amateurs Trophy next season to defend his championship in a slower car. I should disclose that we are both driving for team Lotus.

Only the Cooper T77 and the Brabham BT7 are real slower cars (about 1-1.5s at most normal length tracks). Honda is a bit engine sensitive, but quite fast, especially at fast tracks. The BRM is my best ranked chassis, also very fast at fast tracks. Wink

Yes, the slower 65s are the Cooper and the BT7, the others are almost as quick as the Lotus but I don't think handle as well. I think the BT7 is great fun to drive but not very quick in my hands.

I don't really mind which division Philippe is in, fast and consistent people are fast and consistent in any car so I'm not likely to beat him in anything.

His Lotus times in some races would have put him on pole in the Pros so he could fit into either division.

I should be around for this tonight. I've had minimal practise but mostly know the track anyway.

Philippe,
You have not won the championship yet. You should go for the perfect season in the Lotus. But it is your choice.

The Cooper should be great at the ring, but I would avoid it at tracks with long straights. You might be 4 seconds a lap slower at Spa, for example. Both the Cooper and BT7 are a challenge because you have to maximize every corner and straight. You may have to work really hard to overtake other cars, and then they will retake the position on the longest straight. Despite the challenges, Robert has been successful in the Cooper.

The BRM is fast in a straight line, but it is a challenge in the corners. So most people are slower in it.

Cheers,
Walter

I'm not competing in '65's this Season, but noticed the low turnout last round.  To encourage a large turnout, consider putting the winner in a slower car, or having him drive blindfolded.

Having a few technical issues tonight with the PC. Still working on it but I might have to catch the next race instead.

Wow, I just checked GPL Rank to see the world record times at the ring. Could it be that the Cooper is 7 seconds slower per lap than the Lotus?
