Season 30 Historics Trophy – Round 6 – Nürburgring

We move to Germany to race at the legendary Nürburgring - Nordschleife. Since its construction (1925 - 1927), the Nordschleife has enjoyed a reputation as a terrifying and merciless route through the Eifel forests. An English journalist who visited the Nordschleife during the opening race on 18 June 1927 even concluded “that it seemed as if a reeling, drunken giant had been sent out to determine the route”. The Formula 1 pilot Sir John Young Jackie Stewart – after all a three-time world champion in 1969, 1971 and 1973 – was so impressed by the circuit that he gave it the name which it will probably never lose: Green Hell (Grüne Hölle).
Racing and winning on the Nordschleife has always been very special for racing drivers, because the track is one of the most demanding in the world. Tricky corners, treacherous crests, steep inclines and gradients and constantly changing road surfaces demand great skill from the driver and put vehicles to a hard test.

This will be a 2 Litre event.

Points at Zandvoort are not taken into account for the championship.
I had a look to LM2 and saw Zandvoort was typed as a "Non champ" race.
I changed it in a "Champ" race, but it seems it is not enough ...

The results have been imported as a non-champ race by Axel. Prolly the results have to be re-imported if it's a champ race, if possible...I'm not sure because I see the results are after 10 laps?  Huh

This Zandvoort race had a mass disco after 10 laps!

So I did not know if it is a valuable champ race and imported it as non champ.

PS
The way to reinstate it as a champ race is to "generate standings" after changing the status.

So I did not know if it is a valuable champ race and imported it as non champ.

Good choice in my opinion. I'd either cancel the race or rerun it later. Concerning the rule that Ray likes so much, none of us ran 50% of the laps.

I was reading this yesterday and it made me think of you Ray. You think we have it tough, read this.

From wikipedia regarding the 1966 F1 season and Monaco GP:

"New rules meant that cars had to complete 90% of the race distance to be classified and eligible for points, meaning that whilst Guy Ligier and Jo Bonnier were still racing, they were considered far enough behind to have actually retired. To this day, this race holds the record for having the fewest classified finishers in a single race in Formula One history."

4 drivers scored points.

And on top of that, all the races were 300-400km in distance.

Suspension apparently let me down. It might have had something to do with jumping too high and rolling an unfortunate uneven number of times.
First lap was rather exciting. Well done Clive and Dean on not being tripped up by my overexcitement.

Wasn't terribly impressed with my qual efforts, as a couple of minor goofs on each fast lap cost me four or five seconds (and as many grid spots), but was happy with the company around me to not do anything silly in the opening stages, so hit the green button to join race and immediately say @#*^&% as I remember that I didn't remember to fill the tank.  Lips Sealed

Five gallons (normal qual fuel load) will _just_ make two laps here (sputtering across the line, usually), so _if_ I ticked that "pit stop patch" box for the 66s in GEM+ and _if_ I hit the right spot and _if_ everything else works right and _if_ I remember to stop when I need to (both times), might just still snag a result.

A good start got me two of those places back, minor oops after Adenauer gave Clive one, passed a few others when they had issues on lap 1. Lost 3 spots when I stopped in overshot the pit slot  Angry at the end of lap 2. But the patch worked, got going again, just trying for clean and consistent gained me 4th place at the end. Without the memory-lapse-caused extra stops, might have been challenging Cookie for the last podium spot, but Greg and Tris were untouchable today.

And, yes, Oliver, you can't squeeze thru there  laugh. Good try tho.

Congrats Tristan and Axel! Tristan is very good here in the 66s. I've got a lot of work to do if I want to come close to matching that performance.

I apologize Piero. That wasn't a very good move on my part. Sad When you got sideways I thought you were going to slow down more than you did. If I could have held the car on the inside of the track better, I could have passed cleanly. I should have been more patient. I knew there was no way to stay close to Tristan after my slow start. I'm not going report an incident against myself but I wouldn't be surprised if you filed one against me. The only thing in my defense is, I made a mistake.

Qualifying didn't go well for me. I was 3 seconds slower than I had hoped. It didn't matter in my positioning but it didn't reflect how fast I was.

I'm still not very good in sector 1. If I can hold my position until Aremberg I can usually start pulling away from anybody behind me. Piero was able to get by me in Nordkehre. That made lap 1 rather intense. With Piero in front I had little chance to get away from Axel. Sandwiched between the two wasn't a comfortable place to be. Axel did a very nice job avoiding any contact with me. Piero didn't hold me back much in sector 1 but we seemed to be holding Axel back. Once we got to Adenauer, Piero began holding me up a lot. No place to pass so all I could do was try to stay close and look for a mistake from Piero. I wasn't able to stay close enough through Bergwerk. That eliminated any chance of passing at Kesselchen. By the time we got to Wipperman I was impatient since I'm fastest through sector 2 and 3. When Piero began sliding at Wipperman I knew I could get inside but I wasn't able to hold it inside. I slid wide into Piero, ending his race. Sad The spin dropped me back several places.

I caught Doni quickly. After the earlier incident, I figured I'd wait for the straight to pass him. He slid wide at the mini Karussell letting me pass sooner than I expected. I passed Andreas on the next lap when we got on the straight. Dean pitted on lap 3 and Clive spun in T1. That gave me two more positions. Axel was next. I was able to set him up well at Kesselchen. Another somewhat risky move, but one I've practiced multiple times. If it wasn't then, I'd probably have to wait for the long straight.

Luckily I'm fast from Bergwerk to Phlanzgarten. I opened a gap on Axel before I spun at mini Karussell. On lap 4 I was into 2nd place. I was hoping to get two good laps to finish. I made another mistake not far into lap 4. I spun again at Schwedenkreuz, a much more dangerous place to spin than mini Karussell. Luckily the car's still in good shape, the only contact being with Piero. The two previous spins probably kept Axel's hopes alive. Unfortunately for me I had another spin to do at the Schikane.

I had one last opportunity to drive a good lap. Lap 5 went well. Nothing more than tiny mistakes and from GPLRA, one speedshift out of 69 upshifts. I can't ask for much better than that. If I can find another 2 seconds to gain, I might be able to give Tristan a good race in these cars.

It's rare I don't enjoy driving here. Even with all the adversity the only thing I didn't really like was ending Piero's race. It made a fun and exciting event somewhat shameful.

Thanks guys. I appreciate the racing and thanks Axel for the server and management. And I owe you a favor Piero.

I had no time to race but decided to join the practice to check my skills Smiley With a sole and solid 8:47 lap time my driving skills were proved to be okay, though I failed on the mental part as it was announced to be a 2 liters event and I joined with a 3 liters car... Cheesy

Congrats to winner and podium!

Hi Marco! Have you ever tried this option? Refuel might be a benefit for a full GP but not for race half-length or any shorter.

I always have Refuel patch switched ON since I started a 10 lap long Spa event with 2 lap fuel Cheesy -- though I never use it as I was told to... Sad
