A compact course built around a dry lake bed with the infamous Corkscrew corner.

Shame, my throttle did not work properly, had some strange peaks.
Have fixed it today dissassembling the pedals, cleaned the poti with contact spray.

My engine had probems from the spin over the tires in the chicane from lap 5 on, so I retired after having reached more than 50%.

Congrats Doni and Carlos. That seemed to be a good drive from Doni except near the start and end.

I didn't watch the replay but I wonder if I caused trouble at the start. I appeared to be slow entering T2. I was downshifting to 2nd gear scrubbing off more speed than I should have. I didn't have the time to learn to take T2 in 3rd gear. I was doing the same thing the previous week in the Brabham. My apologies if I contributed to Axel and Doni's collision.

After the early misfortune, I drove two laps at full speed to get some heat in my tires. I slowed then to give Axel a chance to race with me. After he had fallen back again, I slowed to give Doni a chance to race with me too. It didn't take too long to regret that somewhat. Doni closed on me quickly. I was trying to do everything I could to reopen a little gap, widening my line, trying to brake a little later, and getting on the throttle sooner. The pressure was intense. Doni had me sweating until I spun before the corkscrew.

The setup menu was off significantly regarding fuel consumption. I appeared to be using approximately 0.45 gallons per lap while qualifying. I had thought of loading 22 gallons for the race but setup estimated that would yield 57 laps. .45 X 44 = 19.8 gallons. I loaded 20 gallons which estimated a few laps more than 44. I thought I might have to save a little fuel but didn't see any problem finishing until the midpoint of the race. Doni was going to run me out of fuel.

Once Doni took the lead from me, our pace seemed almost equal. That's when I suspected the tow had allowed him to close on me so well. After the spin I was 5 seconds behind. I was slowly able to reduce the gap to 3 seconds. Once I got within 3 seconds I noticed my pace was increasing. The tow seemed to be having an effect once within 3 seconds.

I was surprised later when I found Doni facing the wrong direction at T9. I was so close to the edge that when I approached T9 my car didn't want to turn left. I thought, "Oh crap! I'm going to hit Doni even though he's well out of the way." Finally I got some grip and made it through T9. That's one of those types of incidents that makes me think there was oil on the track. Doni had spun and then I'm struggling for grip in the same place.

Doni wasn't far behind so there was still no opportunity to back off a little. I knew I was going to run out of fuel but I decided to stay in the lead as long as I could. Fortunately for me, Doni dropped back a little while later. That gave me an opportunity for some real fuel saving but with 5 laps to go and 1.1 gallons of fuel remaining, I knew I'd run out of fuel. I would have used the pitstop patch late in the race if it only loaded the fuel I needed to finish the race but instead I used the rules in my favor and reset after T8 and then entered the pits for my stop and go.

I got lucky Doni made a late mistake. He had me beat if he had known I was low on fuel. Had I taken advantage of the early collision, I probably could have made this a rather easy race but I wanted to actually earn my finishing position. Slowing for Axel and Doni assured that I did have to earn this one. It was a real battle and only a little good luck late in the race allowed me the win.

I'm glad the few who showed did show. It's a little disappointing we haven't had more drivers.

I hope Axel's fortune improves too. He seems to be having a hard time lately.

I was convinced that the race was Sunday.In this period,with the work in the new house,i go in confusion.
I think to race the next ,also because i want to try to finish one(is my goal).

I was at home this friday but i was too tired. thought about a start...sorry.

Sorry for the delay on a report.  I don't know how Greg does it?  A full race sked + comprehensive reports which we all, I'm sure, look forward to and enjoy.

Lap01 for me was a joke.  I got tres sideways in the switchback chicane business of T2 and dropped to last.  Going into the final corner, Carlos swung wide and I thought I had a clear shot up on the left to pass but he got his Lola somewhat sideways on gassing it up to sideswipe me and I looped off.  MUMMA MIA!  But it was a long race and I didn't lose heart.  I went chasing after the gang and thanks to Greg easing back to allow us to close, I found myself right with GT.  Only laps later, he overcooked it approaching the Corkscrew and spun off.  Well, who hasn't done that a million times, eh?  This left me with a pretty solid lead but I had to keep the pedal down as Greg had recovered and was holding the gap nicely at around 4s.  Then, on a later lap, I swung too far into the pit lane entry in setting up for the final corner, got the Penske Lola very sideways and creamed the end of the hay bales.  Swell.  The car did a 180 to leave me facing back-track and only moments later, Greg came steaming in there a ton and I thought for sure he was going to prang me solid.  LOL!  Only at the last instant did he find some grip from somewhere to sweep into the final corner and miss me by a hair.  PHEW!  I recovered to give chase and was holding the gap til the later laps when some more gaffes piped in to slow me.  Those plus some fatigue had me back off considerably to cruise in for P2.  Had I only known that Greg was shy on fuel...    Good win, Greg!
