Moderator's Report

SUMMARY

Bastian Grupp completes a hat trick winning his second race of the season. Philppe Girard finishes second, cementing his championship bid; Dave Rainier rounds out the podium. All three drivers ran a very consistent race, well done!

The pitstops were performed according the rules, and one incident has been reported.

Server replay time: 0h15m55s

Mike James and Dave Curtis were in a fierce scrap for position, and after Dave touched the inside kerb in Becketts, Mike also clipped the kerb, and had to make evasive action since Dave lost momentum. Billy Nobrakes was caught out and touched Mike his rear. Both cars spun but were able to continue, both (eventually) losing trackposition to Bernie Darwin.

Billy reports: Replay indicates that Mike was braking to keep clear of Dave Curtis. His car appears to clip the kerb & then drift across the track - I was not anticipating this.

Mike reports: I was battling with Dave C and passed him through Maggotts but he had the inside line for Becketts. He made a mistake and ended up on the inside kerb so I moved out to pass him on the left but was hit from behind by Billy and warped off. I wasn not going to report it as I saw it as a racing incident.

It is quite clear this was a racing incident. Billy was unable to avoid Mike and also Mike had no blame since he tried to avoid Dave in front.

Season 30 Amateurs Trophy – Round 8 – Silverstone

For Round 8 of the Season we go the the Home of British Motor Racing, Silverstone. Silverstone Circuit is a motor racing circuit in England next to the Northamptonshire villages of Silverstone and Whittlebury. It is built on the site of a World War II Royal Air Force bomber station, RAF Silverstone, which opened in 1943. The airfield's three runways, in classic WWII triangle format, lie within the outline of the present track.

Silverstone was first used for motorsport by an ad hoc group of friends who set up an impromptu race in September 1947. One of their members, Maurice Geoghegan, lived in nearby Silverstone village and was aware that the airfield was deserted. He and eleven other drivers raced over a two-mile circuit, during the course of which Geoghegan himself ran over a sheep that had wandered onto the airfield. The sheep was killed and the car written off, and in the aftermath of this event the informal race became known as the Mutton Grand Prix.

The next year the Royal Automobile Club took a lease on the airfield and set out a more formal racing circuit. Their first two races were held on the runways themselves, with long straights separated by tight hairpin corners, the track demarcated by hay bales. However, for the 1949 International Trophy meeting, it was decided to switch to the perimeter track. This arrangement was used for the 1950 and 1951 Grands Prix. In 1952 the start line was moved from the Farm Straight to the straight linking Woodcote and Copse corners, and this layout remained largely unaltered for the following 38 years. For the 1975 meeting a chicane was introduced to try to tame speeds through the mighty Woodcote Corner (although MotoGP would still use the circuit without the chicane up until 1986), and Bridge Corner was subtly rerouted in 1987.

The late Ronnie Peterson holds the laprecord for the old lay-out.

Results and replay uploaded. Initially forgot to download export file as well (it's in the replay rar tho), and didn't use it for importing results. Sorry for that, a bit rusty with these procedures....

Thanks Jethro for the server and details! Smiley

Grats Bastian and podium! Smiley

Well not exactly to plan.

Took me 1 corner to turn 3rd into last as my brakes felt very strange.

I was then having a battle with Dave for fourth and had to slow to avoid him through Becketts and as I did, Biily caught me from behind and I warped off. It damaged the engine too as it blew the next lap so back to last again.

The full fuel load meant I couldn't get down to the lap times I wanted but recovered to 6th and maybe a few more laps I would have been able to see Bernie and Billy.

Oh well. Onwards and upwards.

Congratulations to Philippe on winning the championship & Bastian who was very quick & consistent. All the entertainment was at the back of the field. I span at Copse on lap 5, allowing Mike & Dave C through. There was an intense scrap between the 2 Lotus's which I closed up on lap 10. I didn't anticipate Mike drifting out in Becketts & clipped him from behind. Will file a report. I then swapped places with Bernie a couple of times to get back to P4, now 20 seconds behind Rainier. Managed to reduce that to 10 secs in as many laps until the engine popped. SnG followed by more place swapping with Bernie, to finish where I started in P4. Not expecting much at Clermont Ferrand - one of my least favourite tracks.

According to GPLrank database, my best time with Honda on Silverstone track is 1'33''506.
Yesterday evening, pushing the hardest I could, I was not able to do better than 1'35"033...

Last week, I lost all my setups when my PC crashed.
The end of the season, in all mods, will be difficult for me  Undecided

Grats to Bastian and Philippe.

Sorry Miner (2049er), I can't remember what happened at Beckett's. If you think I made a mistake, do not hesitate to report the incident.

I wasn't going to report it.

I had to take avoiding action at the apex and moved.

It was Dave C, not you. Wink
