Season 30 Historics Trophy – Round 9 – Mexico City

The Mexican Grand Prix was first held on 4 November 1962 at the Magdalena Mixhuca circuit. The circuit was the first international racetrack in Mexico and was built within a park in the center part of capital city of Mexico City. The race provided unique challenges for racing, standing at 2,240 (7,340 ft) above sea level, as well as the long, 180 degree, lightly banked and fast Peraltada corner that finishes the lap, in addition to being a bumpy racetrack from actively shifting soils beneath the circuit. The Mexican Grand Prix of this period was always the season finale Grand Prix, held in late October.

The first race, a non-championship affair which attracted a strong international entry, was won by Team Lotus with Jim Clark taking over the car of team mate Trevor Taylor to claim the win; Clark was black-flagged after receiving a push-start at a confused race start. The meeting was marred by the death of young Mexican star Ricardo Rodríguez who as a teenager was already a works Ferrari driver. Rodriguez died after injuries received crashing a Rob Walker run Lotus 24 on the Peraltada. The Formula One World Championship arrived the following year with Clark winning again, equalling Juan Manuel Fangio's record of most victories in a single season.

This will be a 2 Litre event.

Sorry I missed last Sunday. I'll be absent this Sunday too. I need to cut my driving to two days a week for a while. Maybe even 1 day a week. I have too many things to do at the moment. It may be a while before I'm back on Sundays. Have fun guys.

Tonight we watch Mexico race, and then we drive Mexico race.
Luckily winter saving time kicked in last night, so no need to delay our race Smiley.

Races will still be designated as 3 litre OR 2 litre events but for 3 litre events drivers can take any car (3 litre or 2 litre). For 2 Litre events Pro/Works drivers must take a 2 litre car but the Amateur/Privateers drivers can take any car (including any 3 litre car).

Grats to the podium.
I miscalculated the fuel and ran out with four to go.
Apologies to Sam, I made a slight contact in the hairpin on lap 2, and you spun out. I waited for you to re-pass me, and went from around 7-8 to maybe 11-12. Overtook Bastian and Andreas on the track and I was back in 7th I think when the engine started to sputter. Had a good fight with Andreas before that. I had too much speed on the straights for Andreas to overtake, so I was pretty confident I could stay ahead.

No worries Syd, these things happen in racing. Appreciate you waiting for me to recover.

My race effort was an inconsistent mess after that. Pace wasn't too bad and had great battles with several drivers, but ultimately the nervous rear end on my car was a bit too overwhelming for my talent at the wheel.....

Congrats to Tris, Clive & Doni  Smiley.

I thought Honda 3L vs all these little Brabham/Lotus 2L would have been the right choice.
But it was clearly not Smiley

Grats to Tristan for his win ...and to Marco : only driver to have finished 8 races /8 !
