UKGPL SEASON 30 F2 CHAMPIONSHIP – Round 5 : Zolder 67

The 5th race of this season will be at Zolder in Belgium.  In the days before Spa became a permanent fixture on the F1 calendar, ten grand prix were run at Zolder. Most famously in 1982 when Gilles Villneuve tragically lost his life during qualifying. The new Zolder 67 version is a great piece of track building by Ginetto.

Drivers will have a free car choice
BUT
Each car can be driven only once in this season!

Sorry to Carlos for the 180 right in front of him lap 2, especially as I see in the replay it affected him much worse than me. Fantastic (18th century definition, not 21st)  GPL physics launched him into the boonies for what should have just been a good thump.  Sad

Recovered my position and set off chasing down Clive who had his elbows kinda out today. Tried to force an opening but wasn't happening, then looped it into the bushes on the back straight. Recovered 5th place again (thx Philippe), put in some good fast laps, gap to Clive was coming down nicely, but overheated driver causing hand slippage on the wheel led to a few minor offs. Trying to recover from that must have worked the FVA too hard as it went lame on me. Shift-r, stop'n'go put me in range of Philippe again, but managed to hold him off til the flag.

Still trying to re-sort my FFB, and still hotter than comfortable here, so next few races will be struggles. But it's better than work, so  Cheesy.

There was clearly a lot going on ahead, as I noticed Pribluda was advising I'd made it up to 4th from the back of the grid, without overtakes!
Although I had no doubt that would not last very long at all & then had to fight my way back to the tail-end.

Had some fun laps with company,  but realistically I was way out of my depth here.

Cheers all.
Dave.

Not my best driving performance by a long way.
Like most of us, I enjoy driving these F2's but I could not find a setup for the Lola FVA so tried to sort one from scratch. Despite the 3rd place on the grid, I was far from comfortable with the handling and I could not get rid of therandom  snap oversteer mid corner. If I could have solved that small problem, I might have been able to give Tris and Axel some action..
I found myself on the adhesion limit for the first few laps with an eager Ronnie hassling my gearbox and eventually that dreaded oversteer problem caused me to spin and allow him past.
The rest of the race was a series of fast laps followed by a frustrating spin (or almost spin). I will have to revisit this car and dial in a basic setup for use in the future!!! Undecided

Roo, I would say that the Lola BMW is probably just behind the FVA cars by virtue of its weight, but to be honest I really like the car as the power from that BMW engine seems to feed in very smoothly. Plus I seem to have found a very stable and predictable setup that I can drive at the limit on most circuits. This car can challenge the rest on almost any circuit, but is probably at its weakest where there are too many slow corners with long straights afterwards, because the lighter FVA's can punch out and accelerate slightly faster.
