Season 30 Amateurs Trophy – Round 10 – Albi

For Round 10 we go to France, to be exact to the small town of Albi in the Midi-Pyrénées region.  Racing first started on the Circuit des Planques in 1933, the pits and startline being on a short straight before the road twisted down into St.Antoine. At St.Juery the cars had to contend with an extreme hairpin bend, followed by a railway level crossing. The 5.531 mile circuit was shortened in 1951 to 1.859 miles, before being closed in 1955 following the Le Mans disaster. Racing resumed at the nearby Aerodrome in 1959 which is the circuit we now know as Albi. The Chicane du Sequestre was introduced in 1988 but we will be using the original layout as raced in 1967.

Philippe Girard already has clinched the championship, many congrats! Well done to Bastian to give him a good fight, especially more recently. Both of you can be expected in the Pro division next season!

Hi Robert is 14 laps correct race length?

Hey Rog,
Pros are down for:   39 laps (45-50 minutes)

So for me, anyway - the Ams forcast is probably accurate:  14 laps (45-50 minutes)

I'd advise you to fuel for 70laps,  just to be certain Smiley

Cheers,
Dave.

A big thank you to Robert for organizing and moderating and helping out behind the scenes. Thank you to Axel and Jethro for all that you do as well. It has been a good season.

This race felt like old times for me. In qualification, David R. told me about my warping. I quickly gave my router and PC a reboot. I could tell from qualifying that the cars were evenly matched. The racing was close on track for the first half of the race. I was unable to get around Billy down the long straight. I started to stick my nose to the inside in some of the other corners until he gave me too much room. The same thing happened with David C a few laps later. I would have been happy if the race ended at the half way mark. The cars were just spread out enough that I started looking at prib, and I began making one mistake after another in turn one. I am pretty lucky to finish in fourth. Awesome race guys, Congrats to David R, Philippe, and David C. See you next time. - Walter

not focussed enough and under the pressure of Dave, made a spun with bad recovering to the track.
Another mistake, bad rejoin, was hit by someone, sorry I wasn't cautious enough.
A problem was second gear was too long, and i was getting really fast only to the end of race.

Grats to dave, finishers and to the world champion phillipe.

Enjoyed the race , first half came under pressure from Mike which lasted until I T boned  him after he had outbraked himself at the end of the straight . Sorry mate ! Later got caught by bastian who was re joining from a spin and unfortunately drove at slow speed straight to the racing line just as I arrived at the corner . That dropped me back into the clutches of Rog who put me under intense pressure for many laps when I lost it going into the last corner . well done Rog , great racing and very fair driving , hope you felt the same from me  Smiley

Grats to the Champs , podiums , winners and losers , and most of all thanks to the mods and rockers for organising and vetting this great series.

See you all soon  Smiley

A good choice if track as the drivers were quite evenly matched across the field. Quite a good turnout with the Rog & Walter back.
My own performance was pretty awful. Either I confused my braking points at Double Droit or someone moved the brake markers. Perhaps Mr James had something to do with this as I saw him parked up on the apex a couple of times. Whilst I was able to keep on track there was some good racing. Grats to Philippe on the championship, David R on thd win & Dave C who helped with the team championship. Lastly thanks to all the competitors in the Ams, not been my greatest season but its good fun.

Great track but not a great performance. Good to see the times were all quite close and was happy with 4th in Qaully with a PB.

Not sure what was going on but under braking for DD my car was very unstable and I was fighting it every lap, having to lift off the brakes to save it which meant I went off 3 times there and lost a bunch of time, having to let the whole field past the first time.

Had a good battle with Philippe early on after passing him but then I went off at DD and he was past.

Caught Bernie and had a great chase trying to pick a spot to pass for a few laps until I went for it and headed to the grass at DD. He hit me but only as I slid gracefully across the front of him out of control. No problem Bernie.

Enjoyed my first season back and I'm going to try a different chassis next season for the first time in ages.

Thanks to all for organising. As a former Division Mod I know how much work it can be.

I had to wait the last mod 65 race for a win !
I started qually with a very slow Honda, something like 4 seconds more than leader's times!
I changed my setup, essentially the "angle de rampe" (what is the english word ?) from 45/60 to 85/60 and I began to be very competitive.
For the first time of season30, I was quicker than Philippe (only 1/100 but he drove Cooper) and very closed to Bastian.

During the race, I made a poor start and Bastian had an advantage of 3 seconds after 2 laps.
I was happy and surprised when I could see the gap was very slowly increasing and when Bastian made one or two small mistakes, I could use the tow and follow bastian during around 15 laps ...when he spun, so I became the new leader of the race.

I started to think that I have done the most difficult part of the race but it was not !
Philippe and his Cooper were way quicker than me and it was a nice, and dangerous sometimes, fight.
Philippe tried to overtook me two times just before the hairpin but the second time he went out of the track ...

Very happy with this win after a very disapointing season where I could never (except in Albi) be competitive against Phil and Bastian !
I hope these 2 great mod65 drivers will now join the Pros for season 31  Grin

Nice to be back have missed racing the GPL 65 cars. Early in race made several mistakes, then found myself behind Billy, on last bend i think i gave you a tap sorry about that, caught up with Bernie lap 25 when he and Bastian decided to occupy the same space, from there to the flag had some enjoyable close racing with Bernie, (yes Bernie great racing and very fair driving from you). Hope to see you all next season.

Grats to Dave Rainier on Albi race win

Grats to Podium

Grats to Philippe on winning championship
