Season 30 Historics Trophy – Round 5 (re-run)– Zandvoort

Please note this race is a re-run of the event held on Sunday 04-09-2016.

For the fifth round of the season we go to Circuit Park Zandvoort in the Netherlands. On 7 August 1948, the first race was held on the new permanent Zandvoort circuit. Soon more races followed on the course, with the first official Formula 1 Grand Prix becoming a milestone in 1952. Up until the mid-eighties, heroes like Alberto Ascari, Juan Manuel Fangio, Stirling Moss, Graham Hill, Jim Clark, Jackie Stewart, James Hunt, Nelson Piquet and Alain Prost braved the challenging course in the Dutch dunes and won at Zandvoort. After the Grand Prix of 1985, the Formula 1 left Zandvoort, but the seaside resort and its impressive race track were not forgotten. Many years after the last Grand Prix, the ‘racing drivers of the day’ still talk about their experience on the race track where the challenging corners ‘separated the men from the boys’.

This will be a 3 Litre event.

Woohoo! What a race! Replay is worth checking out Smiley . Commiserations to Piero to lose P1 so close to the end, but excellent drive! I was happy just to keep up! Also grats to Dean for P3 and fastest lap, and all finishers. Bad luck to all retirees Sad especially Axel who made me really nervous for a long while!

Too much to tell, just download the replay, you won't regret it Smiley . As I gather there were more great battles going on throughout the field, so well worth the effort Smiley .

Very frustating race !
Definitively, I don't understand the chassis rules for mod66.
So, when race is for 3 L, we can select 2L ...
For season 31, I had to read the rules more carefully !

About the race, Dean Logan put me out of the track when he overtook me on lap 2. On the terrific Dutch sand, I almost loose 1 minute to re-join the track.
A few laps after, the leaders were coming  behind me ...and I spun at Tarzan just in front of them !
Hopefully there was no damage for the leaders.

...Dean Logan put me out of the track when he overtook me on lap 2...

You mean when you saw me gaining on you through every corner previous, and you were slow enough through the Tunnel corner that I could get fully alongside you entering the next one, showing myself clearly in your mirrors so you knew what I was doing, and then when you turned into my car that was already there there was contact, even though I left 2/3 of the track width for your use? How is that contact my fault? Please explain in your response to my incident report.

I had a really good race, with a car that I could do almost anything with (except avoid getting blown past on the straight, stupid gutless razzinfrazzin...). Lots of fun working my way back up the field after a cold tires "silly" on lap 1, especially trying to get (and stay) past Marco. If there's a "Pass of the Season" award given out at the wrap-up banquet, check out lap 21 for my submission. Two words: outside Pulleveld  Shocked  Grin.

Anyone who wants it/is curious:

A distinct lack of internet compromised my attempts to enter this race. Congrats to a fine win to Tommie and to Tris for winning the Historics championship. Many thanks to UKGPL and the mods for continuing to host these fine seasons Smiley

I did not say it is your fault, I wrote you (your car) put me out of the track.
When you look at the replay, you can see first I turn to the apex (not into your car) and then I went on the opposite side. But the back of your car were sliding and put me in the sand.
I was surprised by your move as I thought you'll be safely overtaking me on the long straight.

I will not answer in your incident report. Let's say it's a racing incident and don't add work to the race moderator .

I'll just leave this here. The point of contact from my replay (two frames before you spear off track):

edit: And the same moment from the server replay (downloaded to check for anomaly):

I saw it too, best case (or worst) example of a warp contact. That's why I made the collision boxes only half the car width on the '66 Can-Am's Tongue .

I don't think overtaking on the straight would have been possible. The Ford engine in the McLaren is pretty weak, but the Climax engine in the Brabham is even worse!

I think this race shows the strength of the 1966 mod, with the 2 litre cars mixing it up with the 3 litres. The 2 litre cars are actually faster around Zandvoort, but the long straight makes pulling away or defending your position very hard. So you see lots of close racing with 3 litre cars holding up 2 litre cars in the corners and pulling away enough on the straight to make overtaking tough into Tarzan. Proper racing Smiley .

BTW Dean, update your cars Cheesy . I worked too hard on them to let them go by unnoticed Tongue Tongue .
