Essentially I got bored.

Was well off the pace of Ziu & Erling in practice & Tony as well in the race. After Ziu's early exit I was running in a lonely 3rd place so started experimenting with braking points & how early I could get on the gas out of corners which predictably led to some spins & I dropped back towards Matt & John. After John dropped out another spin let Matt past, tried to catch back up but span again. Lost interest after that & just cruised around until the end letting Bob past on the last lap.

Enjoyed these cars to start with but they are now becoming tedious to drive so not sure I will bother with the rest of the races in this series.

See ya all at Mid-America in some fun cars.

PS: sorry forgot to say congrats to Erling, Tony & Matt. clap clap clap oops

Surprised to be 2nd quickest Div 2 driver yesterday. Expected Geoffers to be faster, as that has mostly been the case with Div 1, but if he's bored with the cars, then maybe that's the reason.

Pleased with qual, as I knocked over ½ a sec off my pb, but Ziu's pole time was positively otherworldly. Thus a great shame to see him wreck his car totally unnecessarily at the end of L2.  Did present me with an unexpected opportunity though.  Had Tony behind me at the time.  Keeping him there was going to be a problem. No chance against the straight line speed of his Div 1, so would have to beat him on braking and cornering.  Regrettably I'm nowhere near the insane cornering speeds of our resident flying donkey, so despite my best efforts, Tony reeled me in over a few laps.  Eventually he was in position to just power past down the long straight.

Not cause for great concern, as I knew he would have to pit around halfways. Thus got the lead back around lap 13-14. A couple of laps after Tony's stop, the gap was 53 secs and apparently holding. Around lap 18 however, I started to slow down to conserve my tyres. Was greatly concerned my right front tyre would blow. Had tested a full distance offline, to make sure it would last.  Had reached a wear value of 31 then, but the hard racing earlier had taken its toll, and it was clear I would exceed that.  Braked ever sooner and softer, and practically crawled through the corners on the last laps.

Around the same time, the pit board had stopped showing the gap to 2nd place, so had no idea how fast Tony (presumably) was catching me. If a car appeared in my mirrors, I would just have to go for broke and hope the tyre survived.  Threat never materialized and I made it with tyre intact. After finishing, I did an extra, complete banzai lap, to see if I could make the tyre pop. It didn't, despite wear reaching 35 and the tiniest bit of red remaining. Will have to do some offline experimenting with tyre wear 5x, to see how far you can squeeze it.

Grats to Tony & Matt for the remaining podiums, and commiserations to Ziu, who could have cruised home to victory.

Switching to Div 2 didn't really produce the desired effect - bar the early laps, the race was as lonely as they've been in Div 1.  If Ziu returns to Div 1, I'll probably do the same, to defend my 2nd place in the Championship, which I can then do without stealing 1st place in a way I wouldn't want to,

Cheers,
Erling

No Erling, could not get below 2.17 with the 80 car, the 81 you were in has 50bhp more, however I doubt I could have matched your time in that. How Ziu managed 2.11 in the same car as me, I have no idea. Huh Watching him in qually he does use short gearing for 1st to 4th & a long 5th gear, I have tried that but it does not make me any faster. Clearly there is something in the setup of these cars that eludes me!

PS: Doh, just noticed the modified files in post #2 of this thread, never installed those, that's why I was getting the mismatches last night.  Roll Eyes

I had done so many laps online on this track, testing for the race, that I was really relieved that we managed to go the full distance. Worth it in the end. Thanks to Ziu for sourcing the track and to Geoffers and John for their inputs, much appreciated guy's, but lets not make a habit of this. I don't think my nerves can take it.
Asonishing pace from Ziu but sorry to see you expired after that barrier hit. Thought I would be quick enough to win this one but didn't count on Erling having the speed he did. Could not see his times on XD in the race as he showed as DNF which he obviously wasn't. After my pit stop I had no idea how far he was up the road but thought I may at least get a visual on him. Maybe if I had pitted earlier I could have caught up with him.
I'm looking forward to the next one in China as I like the circuit and it has that immense straight which will stretch the legs of these beasts once again.

...Maybe if I had pitted earlier I could have caught up with him....

Don't think it would have changed anything Tony - pit stop simply takes too long.  Horrified by the tyre wear, I timed a pitstop offline. Even if only for tyres, it still took well over a minute to execute.  I could never make that up, despite the faster laptimes on fresh tyres.  If you look at your laptimes, it can be deduced that your pit stop took around 1 minute and 25 secs.  After your stop, and until lap 21, where I slowed in earnest, you were typically 2-3 secs faster a lap, so never enough to make up for all the time in the pits. (Sorry, guess I went into professor mode for a moment...  Cool)

Tyres are quite resillient.  Not until wear level reached 100 did it finally blow:  Cool

Not terribly much grip left though...  Grin
