Well what a load of manure that turned out to be. Countless practice laps honing the setup all for nothing, thanks to one little, stupid mistake
Started out promising enough, with a dream start where I stole positions from both Ziu and local super-starter John, slipping into 2nd behind Geoffers. Had to hand it to John on L1, when I went a bit wide through a corner, due to cold tyres. He and Geoff slowly extended a gap, while behind, Ziu was chasing me.
After a few laps, Geoffers & John were some 4 secs ahead, while Ziu had fallen back after a couple of offs, giving me a comfortable 3rd. Then disaster struck. At the end of The Valley of the Lefts, I went wide onto the sand. Couldn't prevent the car from flying across the dunes, ending on the other side of The Lightbulb Turn, upside down and sliding across the track. Geoff & John roared past, and by the time the car was righted and I got going again, I most certainly hadn't gained any time. Going back across the dunes to the point I went off seemed quite impossible, so continued from the place I was at. A mistake, as the game disregarded the lap, and with one swift, technical stroke, I was 1 lap behind everyone else !!!
Thus basically had to gain places back by lapping people - so to speak. Went as far as 5th, when I passed Tony, but then had 48 secs to Bob and 6 laps to go, so impossible to advance further. Catching Tony turned out to be a real problem, thanks to the massive smoke screen he was putting out. Couldn't see where I was going, or where my brake points were through the fastest section and corners of the track, so had to back off. A clever ploy maybe, but not quite sporting..
Grats to the podium.
Cheers,
Erling
