What an awesome race. A lot of very interesting motor racing facts to be learned on SimRacing.org GTL.

I will scan and upload some pics including Bruce McLaren and the Cooper Racing cars in the next few days.

BTW thanks for all the info Jeep.

Much as it pains me to say.......I will be missing this race.  Undecided

I have tickets to see Brit Floyd,  who are a Pink Floyd tribute band, and are reputed to be very, very good.

It will allow someone else to come last.  Wink

Have to give this one a miss as I cannot join the server. Tried with another install which worked fine (but CANAM not installed over there).

Will make a new install.

Have fun!

Not a good reintroduction to GTL for me. At about the third corner got hit by a car bouncing off a tyre wall and spinning back across the track. Then by a couple of following cars knocking me into the undergrowth.  I found my way back to the track but by then was last by far. I remembered what GTL can be like. The car felt a bit bouncy after that but I resisted the temptation to pit and see if it needed repairs and drove on. I had a few doggy moments and one insane one when I bounced off the track and took an unintended short cut luckily not involving any other cars. I had planned to keep out of trouble but the best laid plans…

I tried to have a bit of fun with Huggy towards the end of the race but I think I need a bit more practice.

Grats to winner and podiums. Nice Series with interesting cars. thumbup1

Well what a load of manure that turned out to be.  Countless practice laps honing the setup all for nothing, thanks to one little, stupid mistake  censored

Started out promising enough, with a dream start where I stole positions from both Ziu and local super-starter John, slipping into 2nd behind Geoffers.  Had to hand it to John on L1, when I went a bit wide through a corner, due to cold tyres.  He and Geoff slowly extended a gap, while behind, Ziu was chasing me.

After a few laps, Geoffers & John were some 4 secs ahead, while Ziu had fallen back after a couple of offs, giving me a comfortable 3rd.  Then disaster struck. At the end of The Valley of the Lefts, I went wide onto the sand.  Couldn't prevent the car from flying across the dunes, ending on the other side of The Lightbulb Turn, upside down and sliding across the track. Geoff & John roared past, and by the time the car was righted and I got going again, I most certainly hadn't gained any time.  Going back across the dunes to the point I went off seemed quite impossible, so continued from the place I was at.  A mistake, as the game disregarded the lap, and with one swift, technical stroke, I was 1 lap behind everyone else !!!  Sad

Thus basically had to gain places back by lapping people - so to speak.  Went as far as 5th, when I passed Tony, but then had 48 secs to Bob and 6 laps to go, so impossible to advance further.  Catching Tony turned out to be a real problem, thanks to the massive smoke screen he was putting out.  Couldn't see where I was going, or where my brake points were through the fastest section and corners of the track, so had to back off.  A clever ploy maybe, but not quite sporting..  Wink

Grats to the podium.

Cheers,
Erling

Had my CanAm folder installed in the F1_67 GTL install which is not used at the moment. Worked fine and without any problems during the first event.
Didn't change anything and it still worked fine offline but when trying to join the server I got the message "game not available - host is using another or modified game". Strange  Huh !
First I deleted F1_67: still the same. So I decided to create a complete new GTL install simply by copy & paste files from some of my other regular GTL installs (using the smallest
folders each in order to gain some time Roll Eyes ) and it worked  Tongue. Could rejoin the game just a minute before the start.

Race - consequentially in last place as I had only about 5 or 6 laps offline praccy but after all with some new pb's (always practicing offline as I still run XP on my old pc as I'm aware that there is some security risk to use it online, if not absolutely necessary. My new pc runs W10 but I don't have any confidence in it and I'm thinking about going down to W7 for a new GTL istall on this new pc. On all my machines I'm running multi-boot combinations with Linux Mint which I'm very satisifed with, first of all but of course not only for security reasons - unfortunately GTL doesn't run with Linux  Sad ). After some offs I decided to quit as I reached my today's personal goal to rejoin the server.

Results to be posted tonight.

Tough track in these cars, a small mistake can result in a big 'off'.

Chose the M6 McLaren as I thought it may handle well here, but had lots of problems keeping it on the track in testing until I realised I was using the 'Endurance' tyres! Put the 'Racing' tyres on & immediately went 3s faster  Roll Eyes. On joining the server I saw that Ziu & Erling were doing laptimes around what I had managed in testing so it looked like being a close race. Did a 24.8 early in qually but then Ziu did 24.3 & I didn't think I could better that, but after many laps I got a 24.2 which I thought may nick pole position only for John to do a 23.3 moments later  Shocked. Way out of reach I thought, but one final lap on fresh tyres got me to 23.6, not too far off.

Got away well at the start & grabbed the lead with Erling in 2nd in his red Lola. Half way around the first lap I glanced at the mirror & thought 'Erling's car has lost its white stripe, hang on a minute that's a McLaren', John was already through to 2nd & by the last turn was right on my tail. The M6 power got me away from his M1 on the S/F straight but by Millstone Turn he was right behind again. John clearly had the M1 setup well & was much quicker than me in the corners, so I needed to keep it tidy in the corners & use the straight line advantage to hold the lead. Worked for a few laps but then I ran wide out of the first corner in the Valley of the Lefts & John went through.

Tried to hang on but John was a second a lap quicker & soon disappeared into the distance. Had a comfortable gap back to Ziu who was now 3rd after Erling's 'moment', so just concentrated on keeping the car on the track & not risking it too much. Had a couple of moments when I got 2 wheels on the sand, but in the end I was happy to come home in 2nd place.

Congrats to John (inspired car choice & superbly driven) & Ziu.  clap clap
