I always play by the rules.... they are MY rules!

Well I tried, is about all I can say for this race.  Undecided Grats to the podium and all those who can drive these brutes.

These cars definitely shine a light on my limitations. I was struggling all through practice and qually to get any sort of consistent "feel" for the car. In fact I was very worried when we got to the grid as I fully expected to make a horlicks of the start and cause a major crash fest. Instead some elves with a wicked sense of humour caused a couple of cars ahead to bog down. They then contrived to make Geoffers and Matt go off leaving me running in 3rd spot!!!, without having done anything worthy of such a high placing!!!!
Not being one to refuse gifts when they are offered, I tried to keep things smooth and safe as Ziu and Erling scampered away. I had zero chance of getting within 3 secs of their times.

Those elves allowed me to hope that I might actually get onto the bottom step of the podium by default for about 20 laps, then they sprang their vicious joke as Geoffers and Matt worked their way through the field and started to close, just as my tyres began to show the first signs of wear.  Undecided

A series of mistakes allowed Geoffers and Matt to make a free pass, but hey!! maybe 5th was not too bad. I had a big gap back to misnomis and Jeep and I could cruise the car to the finish. Then I outbraked myself into Moss and clouted the kerb, losing a few seconds but still OK I thought, until I got to the end of the straight and the car refused to turn right  Sad.

With 4 laps to go I tried to soldier on, but I was going to cause someone some serious grief because I was so slow, so I parked it.

REally enjoyed that !  Would have been quite happy to follow Geoff to the end, watching him scare people off the track so we could pass
in sync  Grin  I was able to close slowly over a lap, but with less power could not keep up on the back straight, until CLive's elves
messed with his engine, and I just drove past on the same back straight  Huh Controller probs were cited, I think it was elves  Evil

Good racing. most enjoyable.  thumbup2

Quite an interesting race for me. The two speed, semi auto Chappy was a bit of a challenge to drive fast for me. I set it up to drive as authentically as possible. In some parts of the track it worked well but others it was a bit slow, with a tendency to prefer grass to tarmac, if I drove too ambitiously (taking into account my limited talent).

I had to try the Chappy again as in my first comeback race after a long layoff I drove it and received a hard impact from a car bouncing off the scenery back onto the track putting me firmly in last place and with what seemed very unpredictably handling car. I guess a sensible person would have pitted, checked it out and enjoyed just lapping the track. I made the mistake of driving it badly to the end of the race. Not very enjoyable.

All races I have managed to take part in since I have really enjoyed. I either have to be a little quicker or cut out the mistakes to really challenge the midfield guys (they all seem pretty quick).

One way or another I seemed to be involved in racing JEEP for most of the race. I probably made slightly fewer errors but he was slightly faster in the race. I hit nothing but took to the grass one time to many, letting him through with a few laps left and ended the race trying to chase him down (thinking I seem to have been here before). I blame the flying Italian who lapped me twice. Otherwise I would have had one more lap left to try to catch and pass him.

Grats to winner and podiums and finishers. clap I hope to see you next week.

Thoroughly enjoyed that; great track for these cars.

Decided early on to use a McLaren here, as that was the only marque I had not yet used.  While the M1B was clearly fastest through the corners, I have nowhere near the setup skills required to attain the insane cornering speeds of Ziu.  Thus went with the brute force option of the M6A, as it proved the fastest for me.

Knocked a good 0.4 secs off my pb during qual, but was still pipped for 2nd on grid by a Hawaii shirt and sunhat wearing Geoff, strolling in from the street and picking a (supposedly) slower car  blink  Close to being insulting, considering how much practice I have to put in for a race like this  Cheesy

Getting off the line in these cars is tricky - the line between total wheelspin and total bog down seems razor sharp.  Geoffers got better off the line, but then slowed, so I bumped him and lost momentum.  That allowed Matt to get past into T1.  Any hopes that Geoff could harass Ziu a little were quashed already at T2, when he went off.

No problem powering past Matt once we reached the straight on L1, as he was gentlemanly enough not to block my way. Had him in close attendance through the following S-curves, and on the first half of L2, until he got it catastrophically wrong at the hairpin and spun.  In 5-6 laps, Ziu was gone from view, and behind, the gap continued to grow.  Thus shaping up to be a lonely race, but kept pushing, for the unlikely event that Ziu made a mistake, or the more likely event that Geoffers would come storming through the field.  The latter threat never materialized though, so the only excitement came from threading my way through traffic.  Thanks all I lapped, for making it easy; hope I didn't interfere too much with the battles you were having.

Grats to Ziu on an untouchable win and Matt for completing the podium.  Commiserations to those that met with misfortune; not least Huggy, who apparently got completely stuck between armco and fence late in the race - what a lousy way to end it mate Sad

Cheers,
Erling

Great race but what hard work!

With a reasonable start added to others' misfortunes, I found myself quite quickly up to 4th, but then ran a handful of wides that sent me back to 10th. This did put me at the back of an interesting group that I was able to join and occasionally get ahead of.

Tyres started to go about lap 24 but this actually made the handling more predictable for me.

Qualifying in mid 15's was a 1.6 sec improvement on my pb, so pleased with that despite crafty Clive sneeking in a marginally quicker time at the very end of quali.

This is the fastest race I've ever driven to finish so far back, but pleased with my first Can-Am points.

Well done Ziu. I don't understand how you get so much out of each car. By the way, each time you lapped me, there was a trail of smoke coming from your nearside rear tyre. That's always a race-finisher when that happens to me! Was it affecting the car's handling?

lol  Took a look at the server replay, which is from Matt's car, and it does really look like Geoffers is scaring people off left and right..   Grin

Seemed like an epic chase - surprised you guys didn't catch me; you both appear to be going like bats out of hell  Smiley

Yes indeed Erling, that put the final touch to another pointless epic!   Cheesy I'm afraid these races over longer distances are not for me, I don't have the concentration or consistency, especially once the right arm starts to hurt, and I get so far behind I just lose heart. Will most likely just do the Saloon Car series from now on, not quite such hard going and a careful choice of class at least gets me a few points here and there, if no wins!
Good work, guys at the front though, just amazes me how quick some of you are.

Bill left the session before the start as he didn't want to block the other participants.

Nearly the same with me - online performance even worse than offline. So I quit after some laps before being lapped.

Ziu is spot on. I can't drive with most other people's setups. Exception was one of the Italian aliens gave me a setup for the 911
and it looked poor compared to what i would do, but was quicker, and more stable. But usually this is not the case.

Out of curiousity, here is a text of the setup I ran last night for the Mac Olds. Be intereseting to see if it actually a lot different to
what Ziu was using?

I knew I had to drive the Chappy somewhere and I chose this track as good a place as any. In hindsight I should of thought this through as it could only show of it's spectacular pace on one part of the track. For the remainder of the track it drove like a sledge (in my hands) refusing to take the sharper bends at any good speed at all. I think I managed to leave the track at most parts of the circuit including areas I had not visited during praccy. And as soon I started getting lapped I gave up trying to catch Steve, with whom I had some good racing with for quite a few laps.
The cars do look and sound great though and I am looking forward to the next event even if I do have to take the Chappy again at some point.

@ Huggy. I take your point about the length of races. I will try to redress the balance towards shorter races for future seasons.

Matt I read LOLA T70 on your setup, we are talking about McLaren M1B Olds.

However it s different from my setup. Starting  I choice a middle on front dampers and soft rear but I saw that for control better the car I needed more reaction so I changed hard, of course all balanced with all parameters, with gear I m most short than you, but it depend from your style too many, with short gears the car is more nervous. I m watching that instead we choice almost the same tires pressure.

Anyway you choice to have a car most comfortable than my car for sure, if not is a Lola setup.

Did have time for half an hour's practice before joining the server, was going to take the bigger engine Lola Chevy that I used at Road America but decided to give the smaller engine one a try as I had a little time to sort the setup. Took a bit of a stab in the dark with suspension settings, but they seemed to work quite well & was happy to get into the 1'15s. Joined the server to discover that was at least 2s off the pace! Oh well never mind  Roll Eyes

Didn't change too much during qually, just concentrated on perfecting lines & braking points & found 2.5s & pipped Erling for 2nd on the grid.

Got a good launch off the line but then didn't give it enough throttle once it had hooked up & Ziu shot past into the lead. Promptly threw it into the weeds at T2 undoing my qualifying efforts & dropped nearly to the back of the field. Found it difficult to pass on this track & had to rely on people making mistakes to make up places, so it was many laps before I eventually got up to 4th place. Matt was close behind & we circulated fairly close for many laps, his McLaren quicker through the turns & my Lola faster on the straight bits.

We took many laps to reel in Clive in 3rd & he did the honourable thing & threw it off the road to let us pass  thumbup1. Still had Matt behind with half a dozen laps to go & when he pulled alongside going onto the main straight I was confident my Lola would hold him off.  Shocked Then suddenly the car just stopped accelerating & I thought I had blown the engine, a quick check revealed engine health still in the high 80s & no smoke out the back. Don't know what caused it because the rest of the race it ran fine, so maybe a controller issue, will have to check. Anyway Matt was now 4-5s ahead & although I closed a little over the remaining laps I was never going to catch him before the end.

Congrats to Ziu, Erling & Matt.  clap clap clap  And thanks to everyone who I scared off the road!  laugh There really is no need to go exploring the undergrowth on my account!  Grin

The file is for the Mac Olds.
In the file for the MacM1B is says Chaparral.
I think these may be the cars the Macs were modified from in the game
or I saved cars wrongly in the past.

Did I imagine Bill Thomas on the server last night? He isn't recorded in qualy or race.

Bill left the session before the start as he didn't want to block the other participants.

Nearly the same with me - online performance even worse than offline. So I quit after some laps before being lapped.

For CanAm I'll be racing as Bill Thomas, also next Monday's race and probably the GT 40 Series. For Series I've already downloaded and raced in I haven't time to change everything now.  Grin
