Clive : I can confirm John's concerns over the latest AVG update and its effect on important matters like simracing etc. If it is not disabled completely before joining a race server there are nasty consequences!! In GTL, like John, I would lose graphics as the screen drops back to desktop but with that terrifying soundtrack of things continuing unseen somewhere  Shocked. Strangely, in GPL it is the sound that vanishes and the picture continues!! but I find that almost as bad if I cannot hear the engine note??!

Aha! I do believe Clive and John have it bang to rights, I use AVG, and yes, this has been happening on or off line since the last update. That's top info guys, many thanks; disabled it shall be next time I race. I wonder what they did to make this happen?; Clive is dead right about the terrifying soundtrack! Smiley Smiley
The problem with my upper arm is likely to be more difficult to sort; as it gets worse on longer races (one of the several reasons I much prefer shorter events), and must have something to do with not being able to really get a comfortable position with my seat/desk/wheel alignment, but I've tried all sorts. Having played a long pub gig with my R&B band on Sunday probably didn't help, it's probably a case of bass guitar players elbow... Then again, I fear it's equally as much to do with getting uncomfortably close to my seventh decade...... the latter I can do nowt about!

Cheers for the tip chaps.  clap

I've found a solution to the AVG issue.

Probably will not help everyone but just in case..

My Logitech profiler blew up some time ago when Rfactor suggested it needed updating and I took the advice and had a terrible week unable to get my wheel to work. Finally got it uninstalled and my previous version back but I never got the actual profiles to work afterwards. (Calibration, wheel rotation and FFB settings are ok I just can't pull the actual profiler up and create key assignments. Sad ).

So I looked for alternatives and settled on an application called "joytokey" which is a keyboard emulator where keyboard keys or combinations of key strokes can be mapped to joystick buttons and axis. (So it does exactly what the profiler does).

I discovered that I could stop the GTL screen minimising by clicking the left mouse button every lap or so.

So, a bit of thinking outside the box and my solution was to map a left mouse click to the throttle axis so every time I press the throttle it also mimics a left mouse click.

The throttle still functions in GTL as normal (And GPL so it also resolves the loss of sound issue).

I've run a few lengthy tests with AVG active and so far no minimising.  thumbup2

I guess a similar trick could also be used in the profiler mapping assignments as well.

Bit of a quiet race for me. Chose the Porsche as it seemed to suit this circuit quite well, although I did good times in praccy with the Ferrari too but decided to keep that back for a future race. On lap 1 I tried a pass on Jeep by taking a tighter line into the turn but as I exited the bend I noticed he had dropped back so I slowed to allow him to re-take the place as I assumed that I must of tapped him. Had many laps tangling with Steve as we both made errors and passed and then was passed by him. Good fun that. Then I moved away from the stragglers but had no hope of catching Old Geezer so for about two thirds of the race I was on my own. This didn't stop me from making unforced errors however as the tyres wore out on the Porsche and it became very unsettled on the twisty parts of the track.

Next one will be at old Hockenheim with very long straights so expect to see a few Cobra's turning out, or perhaps not? We shall see. At least I have used all my Porsche drives up now which I considerd to be the weakest car available.

My race sort of mirrors Tony's.  After the first laps not much happened, drove the slowest of the cars I tested (904/6)  but it was a joy to drive so took it.  Early on dodged Huggy's car who had a lagging problem in front of me, after he went wide and I got around him not much happened.  Saved the faster cars for more open, faster tracks.  Steadily lost time to the fourth place car and kept Tony at a comfortable distance behind me.  Later ran up on Ziu's Cobra dead on the track, looked in my mirror and he dissapeared, thought to myself, OH OH not again!  Grats to the podium.  On to Thruxton, think I'll try the Escort RS  if I can get a decent setup, any help appreciated.....

A wasted opportunity for me to finish higher than my 9th place.

Having found a setup that kept the Renault well-balanced in my hands, I felt (too?) at ease with its predictable twitchiness and had some great tussles with Tony for the first half of the race.

On lap 18 I allowed leader Geoffers to pass, but then somehow I got it all wrong on that bit of track where the back end takes off at the beginning of the braking zone. I found myself heading straight towards Geoffers who was taking the right-hander. Steering had no effect so aborted to avoid being unpopular.

Will take the very generous 12 pts for 9th, but I should have done better.

Well done to Geoffers for first place. Sorry to see Ziu with PC problems again.

Looking forward to next weeks race at more familiar Thruxton.

Sounds promising, but so far I've not been able to locate a download for "joytokey" that will actually let me have it, they keep directing me to all sorts of things I DON'T want! Do you have a reliable source, John, I'd like to give it a try, otherwise there's little point in me trying to race, as I'm not keen on disabling AVG for any length of time. How does it simultaneously allow the throttle to perform both it's usual function and  a mouse click?   I'm not too clear on key assignments and such....

Hi Huggy,
Or anyone else who wants to give it a try...

I got mine from the homepage here.. http://joytokey.net/en/

Not sure about the mechanics of how it works as far as assigning both the mouse click and still working as a throttle in game but it appears to work ok.

The key mapping is fairly straight forward but I can send you some step by step instructions for GTL by PM or email if you get stuck.
