This started at around 9:30 on Sunday evening.

OK, as if driving these crazy machines is not torture enough...... Roll Eyes
I thought "oh Abu Dhabi, we have raced there before I have that track already...I might not like it, but I have it!"
"duh?, but what's this about GTR2 files??" Huh

Then I read some of the posts and I discover that I probably don't have the track, there is an updated version.  Undecided

Ok, I will download and install the new track file.....simples  Grin

Go to the downloads and hit the correct key for the track file and the extra GTR" bits........................."download failed error".......................wtf??! try again and d/load starts. The same thing happens with both files?? bizarre!!
Once the downloads are complete it is just a case of hitting the "Install" button as usual for the track isn't it?. You might have thought that, and I most certainly expected it to be straightforward and simple like 50 times before. no
A pop up window informs me that AVG thinks this file is suspicious and has blocked its use??? dots
It is around this point that I discover that my AV and auto maintenance software has been updated by those nice friendly people at AVG Tongue A further pop up informs me that I have discovered a very unusual file and they have ( AUTOMATICALLY!!) submitted the file to their cyber security lab for cracking and should have an answer in 72 minutes??!! blink

"bugger that!" I'm installing it anyway" I thought. But no, AVG has inhibited access to this file ( as yet another pop up window informs me!), so I dig around for "advanced settings" and discover a little button that allows me to decide if an intercepted file is safe or not......simples  Wink  Nope! yet another pop up window tells me that "the file is being processed and that it is beginning to crack" and when they have actually checked it they will let me know!! It appears that once they have started this "checking" process it is an automated procedure wacko wacko wacko

Hmmmmm,

So I download again and change the file name...I can be sneaky and devious sometimes  shifty And now with the manual option for safe files operational, I am able to install the track file ( there is still yet another pop up, but it comes with a " not recommended but go ahead anyway" button, which gets somewhat pounded!!!.................. and the install works "Woohoo!!!! cracked it!!!".

or so I thought......... Angry

Please tell me where I need to place the GTR2 .dll file  Huh Huh Huh because I copied it to the new Abu Dhabi folder and the track doesn't load.  taz taz taz taz taz taz

I have dispatched Arnold on a mission to AVG headquarters equipped with a large amount of Semtex and fertiliser, and Mabel to the drinks cabinet for my medicinal bottle of single malt whiskey and a LARGE glass. I intend to test the Big Bang theory and see if it is the restart of everything.

it is now 10:40 and I am going to lie down in a darkened room with my nishe bokkle ov medizine........................

Ok, so I don't have a GTR2.dll file so god only knows where you got that from.

This is what the Yas Marina folder should have in it

And this is what your Locations/Shared folder should have in it

No probs here. Linux is a great pleasure for working online - except the circumstance that GTL still doesn't run on this platform  Undecided . And no antivir protection necessary.
Downloading all files needed under Linux - then switching to Windows XP and installing the files. Of course a bit complicated, but secure.

Thanks Tony for providing these addon files. So GTR2-tracks can be used in GTL without conversion. thumbup1

But I'm still around 2:30  Tongue and I don't feel to be able to further improvements.

Can't remember what i did, but I put the files somewhere that looked reaonable, and everything worked.
I think it's where to put the GTR2 conversion files that may be the issue? I wil have alook when I get home
later.

I think the issue is that the AV system looks for a valid Certification Certificate and if there isn't one it give the warning.  I find it's a fairly common thing and I just check where I'm loading from and if I'm, happy (as with the SROU site) I carry on. Also my All singing and dancing AV and maintenance system only gives safe sites and asks if you want to see all sited when browsing..

I feel your pain Clive. AVG did the same to me this weekend. Fortunately I already had the new track installed.

I though now have a different problem. After about 10 minutes my GTL is minimised. This only affects GTL so far. (All GTL instals).

GPL runs fine up to now although AVG did refuse to launch it initially, insisting on checking it out. I've  used AVG since W98 but am currently considering a move elsewhere.

I'll try disabling it for tonight's  race but I'm not sure it will help.

What! Are you saying that your anti-virus software minimises software that's in use?

If you do I would be binning it so quick it's feet wouldn't touch. I use Kaspersky and never had a reason to regret buying it. They also offer a 30 day free trial.

This is not a challenge, but I have never had any AV permanently installed on any of my systems
It gets in the way too much on games machines. If your AV is screwing up you games, then there
is a simple answer.  death

Unfortunately no AV is not really an option for me as although it's "my" system I'm not the only user and Christ knows what others get up to on it.

I've generally had very few issues with avg until now but the new interface is about as user friendly as a cornered rat. Previous options such as "gaming mode" now seem to have either disappeared or been renamed so as to be almost impossible to do find.

AVG seems to be heading the same way as Norton.

Is there a game mode available with AVG?

I've been quite happy with Norton for a number of years now.  It has a discrete mode, which I engaged manually before starting GTL or other games, only to discover in its logfiles that it does this automatically, when it detects a program running in fullscreen mode (games typically).  My impression is that it's unjustly maligned.

Cheers,
Erling

Norton used to be great (I had it for years) but it seemed to become bloated with useless stuff so I switched to Kaspersky.
