I didn't even get chance to turn a wheel here until Sunday afternoon, Started in the 2:48's and got down to 2:20 as I found out where the track actually went and began to recognise some of the almost invisible turns. Managed to get into the 2:19's in Q and 2:18's in the race so admit I really needed at least another night's worth of practising to have progressed any further up the field. Like Erling I had a very lonely race apart from early on when I was battling with Roguk until I got a better exit onto one of the straights and managed to out drag him down to the next corner. Managed to keep Matt visible ahead until just after half way when a few weird laps where I completely forgot where the course went and overshot a few corners or changed down ridiculously early thinking it was a different corner completely I was approaching which put me some 15 or so seconds ahead of Bob who had replaced Roguk behind and a similar distance behind Matt who was driving a very consistent race ahead. I had switched to the D2 cars mid season in the hope of finding a sparing partner being easily the slowest of the D1 drivers but it doesn't seem to be shaping up that way at all unfortunately.
Was glad though to manage to keep it out of the walls other than a few glancing blows but didn't suffer any noticeable damage. Eased off towards the end when I saw 1st Ziu and then Erling approaching from behind so figured as I was in a very safe 5th with no chance of advancing further there was little point in pushing as the tyres were beginning to show their age somewhat.
Congrats to Ziu on another win and Erling and Clive for rounding out the top 3. Commiserations to the retirements. It's a shame repairing these during the race isn't an option.
Like Erling said I would like to see these come back again in the future but stick with either D1 or D2. I just don't think there are enough of us to drive 2 separate classes unfortunately.
Thanks all, enjoyed it as usual.
Hope you are better soon Bill.
