This track seemed to favor the faster cars, so concentrated on them when trying to decide what to drive. When some practice and setup tweaking indicated I could drive the Capri without getting mugged at the slightest prod at either pedal, I decided on it - had to use it somewhere, even though I hate it, so why not here.  Dismaying to return for more tweaking after a few days, and find it had reverted to being the usual malicious, disagreeable beast  censored  Took the better part of an hour to get back 'in tune' with it again.  If only this version would be as easy to drive as its fire spitting turbo cousins in the Asia Cup..  wacko

Entering the server today, I started wondering if Ziu is clairvoyant, or if he's simply hacked my PC. This is the 3rd race in a row in this series where he's picked the same car as me, in advance..  ninja  Happy with qual, as I knocked 0.3 sec off my pb, but with Ziu in the same car, it would of course only land me 2nd.

Bad start losing two places, to Matt & Clive. At the end of L1, the latter's slow entry into the chicane caught me out, so had to back completely off. Damn near lost another place, to John behind me. Also gave Clive an opportunity to get away, and I spent the next lap catching him again.  Passed him approaching the chicane at the end of the lap, but forced me on a line too far to the right.  Couldn't make the entry and bumped over the left part, promptly catching a cut warning.

Over the next laps, I extended the gap to Clive a little, while staying in touch with Matt.  Then a couple of unforced errors increased the gap to Matt.  When backmarkers next were thrown into the mix, all went tits up. Was just passing the 3rd of a gaggle, when the fastest corner approached. Its driver kindly stayed right, giving me the racing line, but I couldn't turn in where I usually did, as that would have seen us collide.  Hadn't shed enough speed for the wider entry I had to take, and thus ran wide onto the grass. Took forever to get back on tarmac (forever in this case being equal to 7-8 secs..).  Then had to do the work of getting past the same 3 cars all over again, which of course cost extra time.

Had been confident early on that I could catch Matt's Boss Mustang, if not sooner, then when his tyres went off.  With all the time lost, it started looking bleak though. On lap 23, I caught another backmarker approaching the chicane. Resulted in a complete repeat of the situation with Clive, including another cut warning.  Thus had to be very careful on the final two laps.  Was getting closer to Matt towards the end, but too little too late.  Grats to him on 2nd and Ziu on the win.  Glad to see that Huggy apparently stayed with us for the entire race - hope you can work out a solution to those AVG problems.

Had a really annoying problem during the race, as I had to keep slamming my steering wheel back into place. Switched to a Thrustmaster recently, and while their clamping system looks good on paper, I really miss the one used by Logitech. The latter you can tighten during a race, while it's virtually impossible with Thrustmaster's.  Even though I tighten it to the point of being afraid to break it, I still pull the wheel out during a race.  Will have to find a solution before next Monday. (Probably make a recess or edge of sorts beneath the table, to prevent it sliding)

Cheers,
Erling

My preparation for this race was virtually nil, so went with Capri as it was the car I was most happy to use up in this situation! Finally on Thursday my Av/maitaience system had a major update which screwed up big time. GTL wouldn't logon and Av and Win7 were incompatible.

Luckily grandson came down Saturday night so in between walking his dog he helped me uninstall Av and sort out GTL. I managed a few laps, then logged on and sat with grandson talking until M5 traffic eased before I got back to my car for the end of qualifying.

In view of above I had a surpriseingly good race. Roll Eyes

As I picked the slowest possible car, in case my crash-to-screen problem reoccurred, wasn't expecting much - and I wasn't disappointed Smiley
Still, it was quite an enjoyable drive as the little Imp generally goes where you point it and guess what? No crash, despite the fact I was unable to install the Joytokey patch that was suggested (not compatible with Windows 10?) or turn off AVG - the latest version makes no provision for that. Oh well, we will see what happens next time I guess.

I was fortunate in having ( almost ) overcome all of the issues that my AVG update has thrown at me at least as far as GTL is concerned. GPL is still recovering from major rebuild surgery after being completely scrambled by the update. I would complain to AVG, but frankly I don't think they give a toss about any software issues as old as the stuff we use.

I did do a couple of test runs at Thruxton over the weekend as I continually checked that it was still working whilst repairs and rebuilds of GPL were underway and to be sure that installs/downloads/ and modifying "A" had not affected "B".

The tests at Thruxton certainly indicated that the big cars would be favourite, and I did a run in the Mustang for a couple of laps and got down to a 1:25 lap quite quickly. Then I looked at the points table, and realised that maybe I needed to score some points in one of the other classes before the chances disappeared so I tried one of the fast Escorts.
I think I deluded myself that after getting a 1:27 lap after about 5mins there should be room for a couple of secs improvement and a chance to bother the big cars?........In hindsight I think I had a lucky lap and was almost at the best I could get with my ability, as I barely improved.
I did allow myself a smirk when I jumped Erling at the start and for a couple of laps I was almost able to hold onto Ziu and Matt with Erling behind looking to use his extra power and speed. Slowly the 2 leaders eased away and Erling looked increasingly eager to join them.
Sorry about being slow at the chicane, but that was one area of the track where I never got the braking point or line correct throughout the whole race. Maybe if I could get that right I might have found those elusive 2 secs??

Erling eventually made his extra speed count and then did a nice bit of Rallycross over the chicane  Cheesy. He was able to ease away and the rest of my race was quite lonely.
Passing backmarkers livened things up, as I discovered that although I could carry good pace through the bends on a clear track, when obliged to modify my turn in points it really did upset the balance of the car and I had one or two "interesting" moments. No issue with the cars that I was passing, they were entirely innocent.
Fortunately by that time I had a comfortable cushion and was in no danger of losing places. I would have liked to be bothering the bigger cars ahead, but they were just a bit too quick  Undecided.

Grats to Ziu ( I hope that your AVG probs are sorted), Matt and Erling. I guess I will have to wrestle with that Capri at some time....should be interesting  Roll Eyes

That's a relief - I did witness an interesting moment, and thought "oo er, I hope that wasn't me!" Smiley

Well, I could think the same thing for you

However on class D Ford Capri was the best choice because agile on these corners Z28 too heavy and Boss302 too problem with tire wear.

I have say that i used the Hocknheim setup because i was tired and i did few laps just for learn this track and i learned that i dont like drive here, not it s Ziu track. But i have say also that i go under 1:25 for the first time before qualy with race fuel so i could get 1:24,9 like my fast lap race but i not  forced my pace during the race becuase Matt with his Boss302 was a wall for Erling and Matt not had many chance too attack me because on slow corners my Capri was better that Boss302 he tried to pass me just on first lap at last chicane, i left him the space on the internal line because i knew to have a little advantege on second kerb so i could keep 1st place. However force the pace here not was a good idea also if i admit that i drove bad and i not had confidence with the setup and this is the most important element for be fast and go over the limit.

I m not still thinking about this championship it missing too races even and i did not get any points on first race.

One special thanks to Clive, after the race on Gellerasen i read his post about AV problems so i controlled the setup on my AV and it was managing my GTL so i disabled it on GTL then we will see if the next races i will get problem again, i think no. If happen that i can win at least one championsip despite my poor skills, it will be thanks to Clive.

Grats to Matt and Erling for podium, specially for Erling, he did a great qualy lap and great pace race. The Professor is becoming ultra fast.
Grats to Clive, to Geoffers and......grats to our Boss Tony !

Welcome Mike, I hope that you can have lots of fun racing with us

I quite enjoyed my race, Chose the Mini 1275S although I think the Escort 1300GT was a bit faster on this track (will use it another time).

Had some fun trying to chase down mikeharley (nice to welcome a new driver). I think I must have pushed into the right handed corners a bit too hard as my left front tyre really started to wear late into the race. I could only maintain the gap and after making a slight mistake under breaking at the chicane and losing some ground I guess I abused my worn front tyre too much, got two wheels inches off the track onto the grass but it was enough to give me a bit of a tank slapper when regaining the track (amazing how accurate GTL is at times). I didn’t fight it and managed to keep it straight avoiding disaster but I think it cost me about ten seconds ruling out any chance I had of catching Mike, let alone passing him.

I had to watch out for the fast cars (and drivers) lapping me towards the end of the race. That was interesting, being fair and letting them through while trying to catch out Mike as he did the same.  Pity I couldn’t keep the car on the tarmac for the entire race but there’s always another race coming up. I don’t think I can make next week’s race but should be O K again after that.

Grats to winner and podiums.  clap

Grats to the podium and Ziu for his win.  I had some equipment troubles early, shifter clamp was just loose enough to cause double downshifts from 3rd to 1st causing a spin in the chicane.  Happened twice before I figured it out.  Steve, Geoff and I were running close together then and almost took us out I think.  When it came really loose I figured it out and did the fix and never had any problems after that.  Couldn't catch Steve, the Capri motor  was too fast down the straights, and behind me Geoff was in the same situation with the small motor Escort.  So finished just were I qualified.
Want to thank Tony for sending me his Escort setup,  I used your shock settings and it really made it a great driving little car.  Never had a off except for the downshift spins.
Good to see the great turnout and welcome to Mike.  Hope you will continue to join us!!!

See you all at Dubia

Went with the 1300 Escort for no particular reason other than I thought it would be quite fun around Thruxton.

Had a bit of a battle with Bob & Steve for a few laps at the start, mainly due to them making a couple of mistakes, eventually their power told & they pulled away. A few lonely laps followed before I got too much kerb at Church, a long two-wheeled moment followed before the car did its own thing & rolled over to have its tummy tickled Roll Eyes. This dropped me behind the two Minis of Mike & Misnoimis before I regained the track. Caught up with them after a couple of laps & was fortunate that they both made mistakes which let me past. Remainder of the race was uneventful, being lapped by the leaders being the only excitement.

Congrats to Ziu, Matt & Erling  clap clap clap & also to Clive & Tony winning their classes.  clap clap

Enjoyed that one  Grin
Tried a few cars, and fancied the 1275 Mini, but the big BOSS was more fun for me. The other yank tank was 3 secs slower with
me driving it  Huh Ziu said it was heavier? perhaps that's it. Was surprised to out drag Erling, then tried to harry Ziu as best I could
but the BOSS was a tad "unstable" under braking into the bumpy final chicane, and though I cvould gain on the straights i could
not get it through the tight bits anything like the speed of the Capri.

Off topic: I notice we have a race at Croft later in the season  thumbup1
here's am in car of me making a mess of "Sunny In" a few hours before this race  Roll Eyes

Cool

Not much to say about this one. Not my favorite track/car combo without any practice after returning late from my Easter weekend.
Some fun with Tony in the opening stages Grin but then I had to concentrate on seeing the chequered flag without a stop&go after two
cut warnings.

See you next week.
