Had a chat with Fulvio earlier.
I had a similar problem, there is a file it writes the last on line car you used to
and that's what you get when you next go on line, whatever car you select.
If you delete the file, you can choose any car again, but only once, and the procedure
repeats itself. I spent weeks trying to fix it, and as I told him, I eventually gave up
and just did a fresh new install (not a reinstall over an existing one) of GTL from steam

Update  Grin
I have tested my original installation on my old pc with WinXP. I haven't TG2001.DYN cheat so I have credits and I have to buy all the cars I want to drive. I have installed Hillman Imp, Mini 1275 and Escort GT. I bought one of each three cars and all works well, of course.
Back on the new pc, I get rid of the TG2001.DYN so I have only the two basic cars in my garage. I sell the Cortina and bought another car. Selected this new car to Practice and I landed in the basic Mini. Close Practice and in my garage there is Mini and Cortina again. It seems that the game couldn't save the garage operations. Then I startet a Cup and after have completed the first round of races I don't see my standing, again it's like it writes data on the ice  Angry
I'll try the game installed directly from Steam that is virgin and we'll see what happens, in case I'll try a new Steam install.

A question because I don't remember well how it works GTL Multiplayer. Can I join a race installing all the cars needed and buying only the car I want to drive, or I have to buy all the cars?

Thx again for your help

P.S.
I can't join you tonight cause I have to play with my Music Group.

Could this be an issue with write protection on the relevant folders and/or files ?

Or maybe an issue with GTL not running as administrator.  The setup program has to run as administrator to be able to save your settings, and I vaguely seem to recall problems with the main program too, if not run as administrator.

I have checked all the rights and checked that all the folders had full control. I'm an IT man since 1978  Wink
I would like to know where GTL saves data for the player, I mean credits, cars and so on. I don't think in the player folder cause I have copied all my player folder from old pc to try and the things remained the same, apart some options settings. Maybe in System Register?

Would this be it??

Userdata/your name/career and open with notepad.  Shows what you have accomplished.  Do not know if it is relevant with your problem though.  I am a computer dummy!!!

Edit: Looked at it closer and  probably not any help for you............

Might try to race today as my muscle spasms have gone away.  Will start at the back (no Quall for me), if I get in your way for any reason just blink your lights and I will move!  Decided on the 1300 Escort for this one. At first I thought it was the other Oulton with the chicane stuff on the back straight and was going with the 970.  If I decide not to race have fun all......

Grats to Ziu for the win.
Really pleased to see that he is still racing with us  thumbup1

Not so good when he chooses the same car group as me, and he  still has a rear wheel drive Escort 1300!!  Undecided I have avoided the front wheel drive shoeboxes for so long, that I am now forced to start using them.
Which means I am having to learn how to make the ruddy things go around corners and that seems odd when we are talking about front wheel drive??!! But I find that it is soooo different to my usual style, that I have to seriously concentrate. Roll Eyes

Anyhow, I did take a 1275 mini for Oulton, because I still had 2 of them waiting in the garage. I did some practice over the weekend and started with around 1:56 laps. Gradually I fiddled with the setup and chipped away at the time getting down to a PB of 1:51 before last night's race. The one thing that I lacked was consistent pace, one lap could be 1:51 and the next might be 1:55!!!
Qually was all about finding some steady pace and the time that put me second, was one where I followed Geoffers in his 970 mini and watched his lines through the corners. For the next few quali laps I simply tried to remember those lines and found that I could keep a better pace...thanks Geoff  Wink

The start was like a real life saloon car race...chaos!! Huggy burst through in his Escort, to elbow Geoffers and myself aside and move into 2nd. For the first few laps the racing was intense and frenetic as Huggy, Geoffers and myself took turns to overtake, block and delay. This allowed Ziu to escape and also allowed Erling to sit right behind the battle, like a vulture waiting for all 3 of us to end up in a heap against the barriers so that he could pick us off.

Then I got a good run down to Lodge which put me alongside Huggy on the outside as we entered the braking zone. I was planning to try a cut back to exit on the inside of Huggy and make a pass. But, I suspect that because I forced Huggy to take a tighter line he ran wide onto the grass and myself and Geoffers were through at last.
If I thought that now Huggy and that Escort were out of the way that I could relax, I could not have been more wrong!!  Geoffers was on a mission in his 970 mini and the rest of the race was one of those epic battles that make simracing so rewarding........thanks Geoffers.  Grin Grin Grin

It was very obvious that if I made a single proper mistake then I would never catch Geoffers again...so no pressure there!! lol Given my random laptimes in practice the chances did not look great  Undecided
The last 15 laps went past in a flash with us exchanging places, paint samples and door handles at various points, but always  ( I hope! ) fairly. I suspect that it was only the small extra HP that I had that made up for Geoffers' skill in the smaller Mini. The only place that I felt I had a small advantage was punching out of corners, because there was very little between the cars on top speed........which was frustrating!!
Each of the overtakes were as a result of a small mistake of the leading car just losing momentum for a moment.

Geoff took the lead with about 4 laps to go and was obviously intending to make a long run for the flag, because I just could not find an overtaking chance no matter how hard I pressed.
Then we started the last lap and I was looking to make a pass after T1 down into clearways...nope! Geoff got a better exit from Clearways and all I could do was tailgate him down to the hairpin, where all through the race he had been the master  I Am Not Worthy.

But he made his first mistake there in 20 laps, and by sheer chance I was in the right place to exploit the opening and stuck my car down the inside to sneak past.
Geoffers was obviously in no mood to give up the fight and he slipstreamed me down to Knickerbrook ( another corner where he was much faster!!). This race was going all the way to the flag!!
I held Geoffers off through Knickerbrook and it was only Lodge corner that scared me now. Would Geoffers be able to outbrake me into there and outsprint me to the flag???
The final corner was NOT our finest hour as simracers whistling whistling

I went as deep as I dared to prevent Geoffers outbraking me.
Geoffer's was equally committed.
I was like a Meerkat on speed, checking my mirrors as we approached the apex. I knew that I was on the very limit of adhesion and I might have overcooked it!
But when Geoffers flashed across my rear window I knew that he had also pushed to the limit.

I made the apex, but could not avoid the grass on the outside. One wheel on the grass and the car squirmed across the track to the grass on the  inside!! At this point I fully expected to see Geoffers sweep past and take that second place...but as I scrabbled back to the tarmac I glanced in the mirror to see a blue Mini still on the outside of Lodge corner. Not being one to look too carefully at gifts like this, I could not get my car across that line fast enough.

TBH I would not have been downhearted if I had been 3rd. There have not been many races in 10 yrs+ of simracing that I have enjoyed as much as this one, thanks again Geoffers for some epic fun  Wink It should have been a dead heat and a share of the spoils?

Yep, truly was an epic race Clive, & thanks to you too.  thumbup2

Decided on the 970 Mini that I used at the previous Oulton race. Did a few laps practice on Sunday but could not get near my laptimes from then. However it all seemed to come together on race night & I somehow got into the 1.48s with it in qually.

Start was poor, didn't give it enough throttle & the engine dropped slightly out of the power band & I crawled off the line. Fortunately Huggy's quick starting Escort held up everyone on the inside at Old Hall & I swept around the outside into 2nd place. Didn't last though as the Escort powered by down past the lake. First few laps were a struggle to keep up momentum as Huggy powered away on the straights but caused a bit of a roadblock in the corners. Clive & I took turns in trying to find a way past but it wasn't until Huggy went off at Lodge that we succeeded.

The rest of the race was a superb battle between Clive & me, neither of us able to make a break when we were ahead. Lost count of the number of times we swapped positions although I'm sure it was 3 or 4 times on one lap!  Shocked  Entering the final lap I was just ahead but knew I had to maximise my corner speeds as Clive's 1275 was slightly faster on the straight down to Knickerbrook. Got the first 3 corners right but pushed a bit too hard on the brakes for the hairpin, locked the fronts slightly & overshot the corner allowing Clive through on the inside. I thought that was race over as the gap seemed too big to close, but out of Druids I was right on Clive's tail & just had to try an outbraking move at Lodge. But Clive was equally determined not to be beaten which meant we both braked too late & finished up on the grass.  Roll Eyes

In my haste to get going I changed down too many times & found neutral so sat there revving away going nowhere whilst watching Clive's Mini weaving all over the place. Nearly fell off my chair laughing  lol But he got it all sorted before I could get back on track & took 2nd place. Wow what a race!

Congrats to Ziu on a dominant win & thanks Clive for a fantastic battle.  clap clap

Yesterday again a big dilemma deciding on a car & class. Without knowing what everyone else is driving, it becomes really difficult.  Thus had prepared all viable options, which is enormously time consuming for someone like me, who needs lots of practice & laps to experiment with setup.  Joined server relatively late, to find myself the only one there!  Not a big help in deciding  Roll Eyes

Started out in the Imp, as I have two drives left in it, and this was for once a race it could complete without refuelling.  Looked promising initially, with a couple of other Imp drivers, but bad news when Geoffers joined in his (same class) Mini.  Believe the latter is generally the faster car, and against a very capable Mini driver like Geoffers, I had no hopes of a win.

Contemplated a car change, but where to go ?  Class D was all empty, and while I desperately need a win, it just seemed too cheap to be the only driver in it. Besides, practice had shown a very real risk of losing control of the Boss over those numerous bumps.  Class B would have me in a 1275 Mini, but Clive had shown up and was quicker, as was Ziu of course, so not the best prospect for a good result. Huggy had replaced his Imp with a Class C RS1600, and while it was tempting to try and beat him with an FVA, to make up for using my RS1600 against his FVA earlier, I didn't want him to feel like I was targeting him.  Thus remained in my Imp, hoping to snatch 2nd in class.

Start ok and I retained 5th.  Lost it to Roger when he powered past in his Escort on the straight.  Tried to hang on as he slowly moved away. Behind me, Bob's Escort was creeping closer lap by lap. Then after some 5-6 laps, things started to unravel. Huggy went off, gifting me 5th again.  Next Roger spun in the hairpin. Hadn't noticed before his car was right in front of me, but a reflex jerk to the left saw me past without much time lost.  Worse for Bob however. Replay suggests he couldn't decide on whether to pass left or right, and so lost a fair bit of time.

Gave me a breather, as Bob never truly recovered. Gap eventually grew to 13-14 secs.  Ahead, the lead group were long gone, so meant the remaining two thirds of the race were very lonely.  Couldn't relax though, as I had to go as fast as I could, to maintain the gap, but increasingly difficult to retain focus towards the end.

Congrats to the podium, and commiserations to Huggy, who apparently ran into trouble halfways.

Well the first few laps were fun, actually running in the top three for a change. Sorry if I held up the Mini brigade in the corners by slowing up excessively, but I'm afraid I'd have gone off sooner than I did, any other way!   Sadly, as recorded in previous posts, it all came to a grinding halt when I went straight in at Lodge trying to outbrake Clive, which screwed the front suspension. I wanted to finish, but a lengthy stop (122 seconds!) was pointless after I went back on, and appear to have been DQ'd, possibly because I missed the pitman and had to back up. No further laps were recorded, so I packed it in. Oh well, it was fun while it lasted.
