I won race2 but the real winner of both races it has been Erling "The Professor" he made a great race, i saw race2 replay and Geoffers going 1:52 with Mini 1275S is right but Erling going 1:52 with Mini 970S 1969 is otherworldly.........and i remember at all that in Season16 Mini vs Skoda  Erling not was too happy to drive Mini......Ok i dont know what would has been see Geoffers with 970S  but watching the replay The Professor drove on the way so superior than his standard, i saw some countersteer from great champion.
The Professor put a solid brick on this championship !!!!

About my race2 i m not satisfied, qualy1 and qualy2 not good 1:46,8  1:46,9, goal it was 1:46,4  on practice i was 1:46,6 the worst thing is that i dont understood why with the same set up i feel my car different from Sunday to Monday.......maybe was my mind to change ? I need understand why it missed to me 1:46,4 !!!! I sure it was possible.

When is started race2 after some corner my arm remind me how is the pain so i think to control Steve without force my step until when i got a spin on Strinting, s bend, here usually my input was in countersteer but when i tried the countersteer these time i give up because my arm was tired, so i left go the rear pushing the clutch with the pedal to avoid engine stop, then Steve passed me and if he not got a mistake on Paddock Hill bend would has been very difficult to pass him, Steve drove well his Boss302 !!!! Well done and sorry for mistake Steve, if you won these race it was deserved.....grats Steve !!!

Grats to John and Geoffers on race1...........and very grats to Tony, it s nice see the Boss on the podium !!!

Grats to Steve and Huggy on race2, i sure not easy drive a boat on the Brands Hatch corners

But yesterday the great protagonist it has been The Professor  I Am Not Worthy , grats Erling !!!!

After the disappointment of race 1 I was not feeling confident about Race 2.

I managed to re join just as Practice was ending and made a decision to change cars, only because I wondered if my disco was "car related?".

Figuring that I was unlikely to stay connected for the whole race, I decided to sacrifice one of those ruddy Minis and get it out of the way  Roll Eyes.
I managed to survive Quali without a disco, but failed to get a good lap in, although that was not bothering me.

I have been struggling with the Minis ever since I joined GTL, seemingly unable to master the driving style. So with little expectation of even surviving or completing this race I was perhaps a little more "relaxed" about protecting the engine and tyres.
"EUREKA!!!" I had accidentally discovered where I was going wrong  Grin

I was throwing that little 970S Mini at corners with barely a lift on the gas, with that warning light on the dash almost permanently alight. It was quickly obvious that I had been far too careful with these minis previously!!!
After surviving the first 2+ laps, I was beginning to wonder if I might actually manage to stay on the server to the end of this race.

I was amazed to be catching and passing bigger cars and gaining more confidence in the handling as each lap passed.
I had a great chase with Tony in his 1275 Mini ( although I did not know that at the time). After he dropped back Rog reeled me in in an Escort, but again I had no idea what I was giving away in engine size. So I just thrashed that poor little car and held him off for a few laps until he went past with just 2 laps to go! I was able to just hang on to his tail pipes, but it was very clear that he had more grunt on the straights, and I could not regain the place before the flag.

I ended the race in a Mini with a smile on my face for the very first time, after some great battles (with what it transpired were bigger engined cars). An even bigger surprise was that only Erling had opted for a group A car, so I was second in class ( I was also the LAST car in my class too, but we won't dwell on that!) and looking at the results above I also managed a 1:52 lap at some point, not too bad at all  Wink................. so what had started as a no-hope race ended on a more positive note.

Still perplexed by the repeated discos in Race 1 and cannot see quite what might be causing it. I am actually beginning to wonder if Windows XP is not seeing GTL as "active" and is going into standby mode. At least that would explain the predicatble time element?  But why that should happen with some cars and not others is a mystery, or maybe it has nothing to do with the various cars??!

Changed to the 1275 Mini for this one, lining up on the grid alongside Erling in the 970 Mini. Managed to outdrag him off the line & slot into 4th place behind Huggy's Mustang. Had to be a little cautious for half a lap as Huggy was lagging slightly, but he pulled well clear on the straight which eliminated that problem.

Managed to eke out around a 3s lead over Erling by half distance but in the second half of the race he started to regain ground as my front tyres went past their best. Relieved to see the flag as I think Erling would have caught me had the race been a couple of laps longer.

Congrats to Ziu, Steve & Huggy.  clap clap clap

Happy with 2 class wins & looking forward to what promises to be an interesting & fun series.

Nice writeups guys - and thanks to Ziu for his kind words  Smiley

Qual for race 2 went better, with a new pb.  Start again ok for a Mini, but not as ok as it should have been, since Geoffers zipped past in another Mini!

That was the start of a race long chase.  Most of the field behind me apparently got delayed by an incident at Druids, so immediate threats from behind were eliminated early on.  Drove my wheelnuts off, but just couldn't close the gap to Geoffers - as is mostly the case when you're trying too hard, you end up losing time instead.

Grats again to the podium. Happy with my own results too of course, as they were way better than expected, considering my history at Brands.

Cheers,
Erling

Cool

Can anybody please give me a clue concerning the setup of the Escort FVA and 1300GT.
How should I explain: I always have no feeling at all with the steering and the front tyres. I'm so slow through the corners  Tongue

I had planned on racing another 970 for this second race, but as R1 was so mundane for me I decided to have a quick look at my Boss 302 times from earlier in the week. They had been hovering around the 1:50 mark without too much garage tweeking and with a bit of race pressure might be able to shave off a couple more seconds.

Thx for your comments, Ziu. I did enjoy tailing you for the first half of the race (and passing you when you overcooked a bend  Wink), but one mis-timed braking zone from me allowed you back in front after I'd led the race for a few laps (something that hasn't happened since early on in Season15!). I did enjoy controlling the fishtailing rear end of the 302 with plenty of opposite lock - great fun but it does of course lose a lot of time. I was able to keep you in my sights though and hopefully put some pressure on to make you work for your win  laugh.

Well done for a great win Ziu in a much less powerful car. thumbup2 Grats to Huggy, too for completing the podium.

Well, my 2nd race was as forgetful as the 1st was memorable. I didn't want to use all my class D rides up too soon so jumped into the Escort FVA. This car is a bit of a mystery to me.. My limited practice had showed some promise with the odd lap around 1:50 but then followed by a few laps in the 1:55's with no apparent indication of what I was doing differently.. In short I simply don't understand this particular car at all. But decided to take it in the vain hope that a few laps under race conditions and I might click with it and earn some points. Unfortunately it wasn't to be and contact with Roguk early in the race (We both went for the same piece of tarmac at Druids) put me dead last. Managed to recover a few places using the better power of the 1600 engine against a few 1300 versions but I was never really happy and every time I tried to push I lost it eventually hitting the power a bit too early exiting Druids, hit the tyres and was back to last of the runners which is where I remained until the end. So glad to have got this version of the Escort off my to do list I won't miss it at all. Was relieved and a little surprised not to be lapped given how badly I drove in the 2nd race and was never happier to see the flag after 12 laps.

Congrats to Ziu and the rest of the Podium. It was great fun as usual despite my self destructive tendencies. Hopefully I can make a more informed choice for the next double header at the Palace.
