Season 31 Works Trophy – Round 7 –  Mosport

To commemorate the 50th anniversary of the 1967 season, the UKGPL season will take place on 10 of the 11 original circuits. For the seventh round of the season we cross the Atlantic Ocean for the Canadian GP at Mosport. Consisting of mainly fast turns, other than the devilish Moss corner, undulations and a long back-straight, a good all-round setup is required here.

The track held its first major race in 1961, when Stirling Moss, who won, suggested changes to the proposed hairpin, which then became the two corners called Moss in his honour. The first ever Canadian Grand Prix was held at Mosport in 1967 and was won by Jack Brabham.  The circuit was used again in 1969 in a race won by Jackie Ickx.  Jackie Stewart crashed out after tangling with a back marker, the privateer Al Pease, who was being lapped for the fourth time at only half distance.  At the end of the race, Al Pease was disqualified and to this day remains the only driver to be disqualified for being too slow. More like something you would find in a GPL race than a real F1 event!

Race List = iGOR

Driver lists can be found on the championship standings page

The full time drivers can start to practice as soon as the server is available.  Reserve drivers can also join as soon as the server becomes available but must leave the server with 35 minutes of qualifying left, for a total of 5 minutes; this will allow any remaining full timers to join.  If there is enough space on the grid, the reserve drivers will be able to rejoin when there are 30 mins of qualifying left.

This Season we don't have a Red Zone. Moderating will be on reported incidents only.

The chassis token system is explained on the Works standings page. Please ensure you choose a chassis that is within your budget, which can be seen by hovering the mouse over your points total in the standings.

Please restrict chat to pit messages including at the end of the race until ALL drivers still racing have crossed the line.

Engine, lap 14 or so (after a brilliant start [that came for naught when I went wide in T3 after I'd avoided someone's oops]), was my day done. Earlier excursions has tried and failed, so I was starting to think I'd see the chequers today. :/

Off to watch last 20 laps of today's F1. It's looking spicy  Grin.

I was just looking to finish the race after 3 dnf's in a row. At T3 it suddenly didn't look good. I left room for the recovering Lotus, adjusted my line slightly to keep off the grass & got tapped into a spin. Luckily I was able to continue as was everyone else involved, I think. A few mistakes throughout the race meant I was lapped but I was happy the see the flag.

Grats podium, thanks admins.

Congrats to Tim, Tris & Iestyn for their podium places. My race was going well until about 10 or so laps from the end. My concentration fell, anger built up and it was a viscous cycle. Lucky to even make the flag after the amount of offs I had. If I ever needed a reminder, anger doesn't work when trying to drive a car quickly and consistently  Roll Eyes

Replay will be uploaded tonight.

My race was pleasantly surprising that I made the distance unscathed, and also quite lonely when others fought their way past. I generally have hated this place but I was getting into a good rhythm with the Brabham.

Grats to the podium and all finishers.

A little disappointed not to see the flag, which was my ultimate game plan. Still struggling to master the BRM, and it caught me out yet again at the end of Lap 3? went wide at the end of the straight and hit the fence. Something definitely got bent there and the rear offside tyre wanted to stay in the infra red spectrum. Slow and careful driving for 2 laps brought the temps down, but as soon as I tried to get back up to speed  they soared again, another off and the damage appeared to get worse. So I cruised around at 1:28secs a lap until the leaders caught and lapped me ( oh! the shame and indignity!!).
Then, yet another clatter into the barriers rendered the car undriveable, which was probably a good thing so I went for some early cocoa!  Sad
