Moderator's Report

After a poor start, Fulvio Policardi worked his way through the field to claim the win and snatch the championship in style in his comeback season. Axel took the runner\'s up spot ended the season with a strong finish. John Hammonds rounds the podium, consequently finishing the championship in 2nd place; a fine effort in his debut season. By finishing 4th this race, Dave Ranier finishes 3rd overall in the championship; another reminder that consistent and error-free racing rewards the driver handsomely.

Despite some hairy incidents on the first lap especially, no incidents were reported this race so the results stand. Enjoy the summer break gentlemen, I sure will!

Season 31 Privateers Trophy - Round 10 - Mexico City

To commemorate the 50th anniversary of the 1967 season, the UKGPL season will take place on 10 of the 11 original circuits. The series concludes at Mexico City. The Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez is a 4.304 km (2.674 mi) motorsport, named after the racing drivers Ricardo and Pedro Rodríguez. The circuit got its name shortly after it opened when Ricardo Rodríguez died in practice for the non-Championship 1962 Mexican Grand Prix. Ricardo's brother Pedro also lost his life behind the wheel nine years later.

The Privateers Trophy has been a very close run contest this season. Four drivers are within a chance of winning the title going into the last race: Dave Ranier, Bastian Grupp, Fulvio Policardi and John Hammonds. Best of luck gentlemen.

For the team's championship, Black Night Racing have sealed the trophy, with Antipasti Racing & Team Groundhog fighting it our for the runner's up spot.

Note the Privateers division is run on Intermediate damage settings. Drivers are permitted 1 Shift R followed by a Stop & Go in the pit lane within 2 laps. Failure to make a stop will result in a 30 second time penalty. If you require a stop & go on the final lap & are unable to complete a time penalty of 15 secs is added.

This Season we don't have a Red Zone. Moderating will be on reported incidents only. If you haven't received a PM about an incident before the link below the results table is removed, you can be sure that you will not appear in the moderator's report.

What a disappointing finish to the season. I've got a button on the MS/FF wheel that does a ESC-Enter to reset everything back to the pit when I'm practicing. I disable it before online races. That is, I usually disable it before online races. So after doing a couple of back-to-back PBs in qualifying, I set off at my usual pace only to run into the knife edge of the Armco fence at the entrance to the hairpin during the third lap. I meant to hit the SHIFT-R button on the wheel but . . .  Oops. End of race, end of season, end of sorrow.

It was fun, however, and I hope to see you guys next year.

...I've got a button on the MS/FF wheel that does a ESC-Enter to reset everything...

I used to have one of the on-wheel buttons on my G25 mapped to shift-r, until an inadvertent tap as I was sitting on the grid wiped out half the field before the flag dropped (spawned on top of someone who then did the end-over into others, much carnage). Let's say I was not very popular that week, and now both wheel buttons go to F10 view. Shift-r is on the shifter.  Grin

You don't lift your throttle when you change gear. That kills the engine very quickly. Billy had a worse race when you drove through him in T2 and ended his race. I was luckier when you hit me in the hairpin because I could continue. That was all in the first minute. You have to wait your turn at Mexico at T2 and the hairpin on the first lap as all cars are close and can only go through one at a time safely. No point in making an incident report because you don't change and you can't lose points that you didn't earn. Please think of other drivers.

Grats To Fulvio on the win and the Championship. A great effort coming through in this race having to overtake most of his championship rivals. John had a great season, looking to be finishing on top until the last few laps here.

Congratulations Fulvio on the win/championship!

With the calibre of the grid,  I was not expecting very much, but was still up for a bit of a scrap if the situation arose.  It looked as though it would be tight on championship points with Billy [not that we have a bitter rivalry/or even a rivalry!] as he was already down 2x point-scoring events & anything here would put him above me.   Sorry to hear of your demise here though man, especially way before 50%.

Unexpectedly, I seemed to get good start & others not too good  [although I admit my good start could be linked to that...] & was even able to get past Fulvio in my more expensive car in the initial stage.

I was well aware that I was therefore misplaced in the running,  but was keen to not affect the championship by a moment of stupidity.
By my standards,  I was running very well [sure - a little scrappy from looking at replay;  but still good for me]  & Fulvio behind was clearly driving a measured event but also pushing me along somewhat.  But I imagine was pleased when I had finally stopped holding him up...!

I guess one of my highlights of my event is having overtaken Fulvio twice Smiley  but I honestly knew my time that near to the front was only borrowed.

Ahead,  Bastian span & then dropped back somewhat; but during the rest of the event was getting ever closer.  My  half spin a bit later let 3 of them past in a single wave & I'd not really see them again.  Bastian was still getting nearer though & although I made it a lot easier for him with some running wide & kerb bumping;  realistically he's  made of sterner stuff & would have caught me anyway.

As as result, I've got to be be pleased with the provisional 7th place;  but running 3rd for a while was a dream that would never have been realised come the chequered flag.

Probably could have done without the additional 6 laps worth of fuel,  but would not have made any difference.

Anyway, congrats Fulvio & podium.   Has been a hard season but I'm glad to have made it as the top non-podium-placed contestant Smiley

Cheers all,
Dave.

Nevertheless, after the first engine,i was careful during the gear change but a black smoke exit from my exaust after only 4 laps.
Could be that the second engine was bad lack?

One sorry to Billy for the touch on the first curve.

Fran, this is the third time this season you have run into me on the first lap. Nurburgring, Mosport & Mexico. In these situations it is usually the innocent driver who comes off worse. Can you please be more careful next season. Apology accepted for last night.

Billy ,at Mexico i have seen your car very large and i was convinced that was difficult for you to regain the right trajectory.
I have mantained the car on the right but our trajectories met in the middle of the curve. What i'm sorry are the tragic consequence for you.
At Nurburgring was my big mistake on the breaking point so no discussion.
Instead i  have suffered in many race situation like Mosport but, frankly speaking, the penalized was my car.Penalization due to have not given enough space to the car in overtaking.to the best was finished like race incident.
Since we have ,more or less, the same level of ability in GPL,unavoidably we will be still close the next season and ,for sure,i will try to pay  more attention to your car Wink

Not only Billy's car !    Wink

I am a little bit disappointed by this last race. I was never able to follow Axel, Fulvio, Mike.
Even on the begin of the race, Dave Curtis was quicker.
And Andy with the BRM was always very closed, just behind my ...Eagle !

Definitively, I am very bad with GPL settings for quick track.
I think I do better on slower tracks, unfortunately I had to miss Monaco and I had lot of troubles (like several other drivers) in Zandvoort.

As far as I remember, this championship was the more exciting I participated, from the first round to the last lap of the last round.
We were 4 racers able to win it before Mexico.
And we surely could have been 7  if Andy took another car than BRM, and if Axel and Gareth were racing during all the season.

Big congratulations to Fulvio for taking the win and the championship and glad to have been able to play my part in my 1st season with UKGPL increasing the number of drivers in contention in the final race. A season of "What ifs" for me, What if I hadn't had a screen freeze while running 2nd @ Spa, What if I hadn't had to abandon the Glen mid race due to a family issue, What if I hadn't had a rush of blood and nearly took the whole field out at Zandy.  oops (Still apologising to people for that moment of madness).

Anyway, amazing drive Fulvio from a long way back. I knew I could stretch you on the long straight but also knew that eventually you would get a good enough exit from the final turn to keep in the tow and my advantage by T1 would be gone and that's what happened. I did actually try to let you through at that point and plot my move for later in the race but somehow I came out of the T1-2 combination still in front of you. Then into the left/right before the run down to the hairpin I lost you in my mirrors and missed my braking point so ended up in the kitty litter. So from then on I was putting all my faith in Axel to keep you behind him as I knew 3rd would be good enough for the championship as long as you didn't win. Unfortunately Axel let me down big time (Just kidding).. You had other ideas. Smiley

Thanks everyone I've really enjoyed my whole UKGPL experience. Sunday evenings are awkward for me but I have slowly educated family and friends that Sunday evenings are pre booked so look forwards to mixing it with you all again.

Thanks again all, I've had a blast.

TTFN

I wasn't really aware who will be the favorite after the counted 8 of 10 race results.

I was missing one point to take the eagle and Mexico is my least favorite papy track, so I didn't feel to have chances.

At the start i just looked to Dave Rainier which I could overtake; my pace was really good enough for third place i guess but three spins took me back.

In the end i Caught catch up Dave Curtis. Grats to Fulvio and the other Competers especially Jeep and Dave for that close championship. Cya next season.

Thx all for the grats  Smiley
At the end of the race I was really surprised to have won the champ too, I hadn't do the math and I thought to be out of contention after my bad result at Glen, so I started trying to have a clean and fast race compatibility with the slower car I could afford. Mexico is one of my fav track and the Braby is good in the esses so I managed to not do big mistakes and to preserve my tyres temps that I think caused more problems to other cars towards the end of the race.
Qualified 2nd very close to Axel but at L1 T1 I struggled to keep 5th spot and had a nice battle with Dave's Eagle for many laps pressing him in the twisty bits but with no chance to pass him till he spun. The rest of the race has already been told :-)
So congrats all for the exciting season, and I hope Andy and Axel decide to not handicap too much themself next season so we can battle all with the same chances. :-)

Ciao

Sorry I missed the last 4 races of the season - timing was just not right for taking part, but I hope to be back next season.
