Season 31 Historic Trophy – Round 10 - Aintree

The tenth race in the Historic series finds us in the north of England. Aintree is undoubtedly famous for the iconic Grand National horse race but for several years it reverberated to the sound of horses of a different kind. The circuit was built in 1954 and hosted the Formula One British Grand Prix five times, in 1955, 1957, 1959, 1961 and 1962. Stirling Moss, driving a Mercedes, won his first British Grand Prix at Aintree in 1955.  It was the first time a British driver had won his home Grand Prix. The first British driver / British car victory in a British Grand Prix was also at Aintree in 1957, when Stirling Moss and Tony Brooks shared a Vanwall. Quite why Grand Prix racing stopped at Aintree is unclear.  The close proximity of housing may have been a factor but the circuit would no doubt have needed to improve safety standards.  The original track can still be seen, and driven on, today. The lack of any run-off areas in the section to the west of the Melling Road all too apparent. The section to the east of the Melling Road which is wide open and relatively safe is still in regular use for motorcycle racing.

This race is for cars with 3 Litre engines.

This is Round 10 but we have only had 9 official races because Round 4 at Spa was discounted.  If you remember we had a bizarre situation where everyone except Axel was unable to take their grid positions. Consequently, practically the entire field had to start from the pit lane. We had agreed to re-run Round 4.

The title has been decided but there are still a few drivers who are fighting for the second and third place slots.  So it is important that we re-run the race. The re-run of round 4 will take place on 16 July 2017, there being the normal 2 week gap after the previous round.

Sorry Tristan, we've already had five 2 Litre races. This one and the re-run of round 4 are both for 3 Litre cars. I'm sure a driver of your capabilities will develop a good setup for a 3 Litre car!

I'll be at the Joe Shaw gathering at Brands Hatch this weekend so Axel has kindly agreed to host the race on his server.

Good luck everyone!

Sorry. I spun and was in your way then...i'm sad you couldn't go on.

My car was quite damaged afterwards, Suspension with my wheel pointing to the left.

But I managed to do even faster laps than before but it was a lonely race.

Yes you can, when joining or hosting a race at iGOR there is a checkbox to save the replay.

I had archived old rpy files on my server and forgot to rename the replay folder so GPL did not save...

I could be wrong Wink  but I think that may only apply/work on the machine hosting the race?  Although I know it can be selected on clients, I don't think it actually does anything?

The export file should be the minimum to import the race, the Complete file fleshes it out.

If a race was completed and nobody was there to record it, did it really happen?
