Moderator's Report

Summary
Another dominant win by Axel only headed briefly by Doni who eventually dropped back to finish fourth. Andreas secured second place and Dean was promoted up to third on the podium after Tristan was awarded a penalty.

Lap 1 – Masta - Francesco Molteni and Tristan Bot
Franceso gets a good exit out of Malmedy and thanks to a helpful dose of slipstreaming easily overtakes Tristan on the long run down to Masta. Francesco makes a clean entry into the left kink at Masta and manages to avoid Evil’s Honda that has understeered wide, bounced off the Armco barrier and slid back across the track. Undaunted, Francesco negotiates the right-hand bend at Masta and keeps everything on the tarmac.

Tristan’s Mclaren didn’t have the straight-line speed of Francesco’s Ferrari but it handles well in the corners and he is much faster on the exit of Masta. So much so that he rear-ends Francesco. Francesco is out of the race but Tristan continues apparently unscathed.

Francesco did nothing wrong. However having crashed out, his car rolled back towards the track almost taking out Andy Livingston and Billy Nobrakes. It does look like Francesco tried to avoid rolling back onto the track and even appears to accelerate back up the banking but it was only thanks to Billy’s quick reactions that a second incident was avoided.

Tristan was undoubtedly quicker on the exit of Masta and needed to try very hard to make up for his underpowered Mclaren but that does not mean he is allowed to take unnecessary risks. It is the following driver’s responsibility to make a clean pass. Tristan didn’t intentionally try to barge a slower driver out of the way but he should have been more patient and planned a safe move once he had worked out where he was quicker than Francesco. He could have made an opportunistic pass if Francesco had made a mistake but clearly this was not the case on this occasion. Being slightly slower or scrubbing off more speed than optimum is not making a mistake.

Season 31 Historic Trophy – Round 4 Re-Run - Spa`67

Welcome to the re-run of the fourth round of the Historic Trophy at Spa67, the classic track with new layout for GPL. This is the long awaited update to the Papy original. Perhaps THE classic Grand Prix circuit, the original triangular shaped course was designed in 1920 by Jules de Their and Henri Langlois Van Ophem. It used public roads between the towns of Spa, Malmedy and Stavelot.  The course was extremely fast and was made even faster in 1939 with the introduction of the famous Eau Rouge section.  The circuit was completely revised and shortened for the 1981 Belgian Grand Prix but it is the classic 60's 8.761 mile version of the track that we will use for this race.

This version of the circuit was used between 1946 and 1970 and corners like Eau Rouge, Burnenville and particularly Masta presented the drivers with exceptional challenges. Due to the combination of high speed, length and lack of any possible run off, the circuit was very dangerous and claimed the lives of many drivers.

This race is for cars with 3 Litre engines.

Thanks Jethro. Hopefully the server will be fine.

Server is up if anyone wants to practice.  It would be helpful if a few people had a go and stayed on for a race so we can check the start is normal.  What happened last time was bizarre!

Dang. The one time it worked out that I could have a good scrap with Tris, I'm half down with a summertime cold, and really not at my best (as he saw)  Sad. So, sorry to him for my lap 2 missteps, and awesome job avoiding taking us both out. After his lap 3 minor excursion, I tried to build a gap, but he caught me quickly. From then on, it was follow him to the flag (hope I made it obvious that I was not seriously challenging).

Thanks for the races, see all ya next season.

Pity to have missed the re-run, life commitments meant I couldn't make it. Congrats to Axel, Andreas and Tris for rounding the podium  Smiley.

This season overall was a blast. I did enjoy racing the Eagle season-long. Whilst I was reasonably competitive with the 2 ltr formula, I did struggle in the 3 ltr races and given the woes that fell other racers I consider myself lucky to bag the championship considering the greater pace of several competitors. Thanks to Phil for moderating and to Jethro & Axel for hosting the races  Smiley.
