After the problems in the first two races what could possibly go wrong with this race??

I had played with this XJS monster offline and after starting with times around the 2:27 gradually chipped away until I did a PB under 2:20.

So, I was hoping to give a better account of myself in the final race, if only for my own satisfaction.

I noticed a lot of chat about cars and problems as we all joined the server. Something about a conflict between the #12 and #44 cars?

So I loaded up the #12 XJS and selected the uber alien setup that I had carefully built.  Blasted out onto the circuit and went up through the gears...only to discover that I had 2 x 3rd gears and no 4th!!! This was a problem I had about a week ago. Back then, I had time to totally rebuild the setup by painstakingly copying across all of my parameters to modify the default and regain 4 different ratios, but with only a few mins and a qualifying session to complete it was impossible.
I started the race with a car that was very unstable under braking and a long way from the comfortable smooth car that I thought I would have.

Apologies again for getting in the way of other drivers until I finally wrecked the car against the wall at the end of the back straight and putting us all out of my misery  Sad

I never expected to win any silverware in these races against the aliens, but I had hoped to at least put up a reasonable fight  Undecided I did enjoy the challenge of these races and hope that we can do it all again soon ( ish ), just as soon as I seek and destroy my computer gremlins!!!

The XJS felt like a really strange car to drive to me.. It never really seemed to be going that fast until something went wrong at which point everything began to happen really quickly.

Thought I would be a long way off the pace in these after seeing Clive mentioning 2:22's while I was still in the 2:27's but slowly chipped away and crept into the 2:25's come race day and was somewhat relieved to find that I was mid pack when the flag dropped.

1st disaster was starting lap 3 when I put a wheel on the dirt braking for T1 and lost a load of positions extracting myself from the kitty litter had some great battles from then onwards though unfortunately caused both Dan and me off at the Carousel when we were both following Clive (I think) and I misjudged the gap allowing Clive to make a break.

At least 1 other off cost me a chunk of time and a few further small mistakes compounded my misfortune.

But I have to say I quite like these, they feel a bit like a more nimble Boss Mustang.

Thanks for organising Tony, I had a blast.

It has to be said that that was a disappointing evening for all at UKGTL. We were totally outclassed by the Nogrip guys but congrats to them and no hard feelings  Wink

I hope everyone who was able to attend had at least one or two good races. Sorry for the car problems in the third event. sorta beyond my control really.

We do have Season 18 to look forward to though and I hope that you find the events as much fun as I had setting them up.

It remains for me to wish you all a happy, healthy and wonderful 2018.

I look forward to seeing you all on the grid

best wishes

Big thanks to Tony for organising these races, I think all the NG guys enjoyed them!

Sorry the team event turned out a bit one-sided, all NG's fast guys turned up whereas SROUK were missing Ziu & Erling which would have made a difference.

Happy New Year to you all, see you next Monday for the start of the 2018 season.
