2017 Christmas Special Grid/server capacity: 22 RACE ONE (The Fifties)Track: Rouen '55 Download thisCars allowed: Jaguar D-Type (1957 version only) Download this UKGTL Drivers will use Car #3, NoGrip Drivers will use Car #4. Practice: ~19:20 GMT (60 mins) Qualifying: 20:20 GMT (10 mins) Race: 20:30 GMT (14 laps) Race 2 and Race 3 will follow with approx. 5 mins to change cars followed by a ten minute qualifying session. Time of Day Setting: 14:00 Start: STANDING Tyre wear: Normal Fuel consumption: Normal Server: simracing.org.uk XMAS Password: see aboveNotes: (1) It's best if all drivers can make sure they are connected before the Qualifying session as drivers on track during qualifying will not see cars that join after they are on track until they go back to the garage. (2) Please make sure you are fully aware of the SimRacing.org.uk Rules. (3) The AI control should be turned off so that you have control of the car at all times, including pitting. Your player file should therefore read Autopit="0" Force Autopit Off="1" // Forces autopit always off No AI Control="1" // AI never has control over car If you still finding pitting problematic, experience tells us that its less to do with positioning and more to do with approach speed. A slow approach to pit crew chief has proved most reliable. Tony, I have posted full details of the races at NG now, & have included a sign up for them.
See here:http://www.nogripracing.com/forum/showpost.php?p=1952885&postcount=7
I have put myself down for NG at present, but will happily swap teams to even up the numbers nearer the date if required.

I am reasonably confident that I can do this, so provided that I have not consumed too many mince pies and occasional glasses of wine, put we down for UKGTL.

I should be ok for this as well. I'll race for who ever is short of drivers but UKGTL preferred.

Could race for either team but as I'm so far off the pace I've decided to give these races a miss. Also No 2 and 3 grandsons want to visit us over the Christmas/New Year and we are still awaiting dates!

had an evening when the good lady wants to watch something on TV that does not interest me, so thought that I would get some pre race practice in for these races. Can anyone give an indication of what laptimes might be reasonable for these cars/circuits?? I guess it is OK to ask outright as we are all on the same team

May not be a good idea to post lap times out in the open here - Der feind hört mit... Rumor has it we're up against some very fast drivers, so you'll need all Arnold and Mabel can possibly kick out of the cars. Am struggling with the D-Type here, so probably no harm done in posting my best so far: 2:18.556 - and for once I'd like you to exceed it...

I kinda know where I am going with the D-type, and the E-type is something that I have wrestled with before, so for me it is a case of getting my race head in gear. But that monster XJS is a step into the unknown and after a few laps last night I am getting that Turbo Capri feeling Best lap ( out of maybe 7-8 ) was around 2:22 I think. but there was a lot of hesitating into corners and missing of apexes because I was not confident in the setup/handling. I am hoping to get some time somewhere to do a few laps and get more familiar with the power of the XJS. I have made myself very unpopular by postponing the race team Christmas Party....Arnold and Mable are not happy, but under no illusion what is required of them. I have given Arnold his Christmas present early and he is currently trying to understand how a set of socket spanners works, preferring to stick to his tried and tested scaffold tube and hammer! Mabel has been given a new handbag and corset. She has donated her old corset to Arnold to use in beefing up the suspension on the D-type, so I am hoping that there will be some developments in that department.

I am hoping to get some time somewhere to do a few laps and get more familiar with the power of the XJS. I've always hated the GTL E-Type. Has a nasty tendency to suddenly snap left or right, both under braking and accelerating, which I need to address if I'm to push in any way in this car. Setup tips on how to accomplish this are more than welcome... Ironically I pretty much found the monster XJS the easiest to drive. Given the enormous power output, it seems surprisingly docile. My biggest problems were underestimating the speed with which I'm approaching some corners, and thus braking too late - which in turn results in the rear kicking out. Can usually tame the latter with coast diff & brake balance, so need to work on that. Can't recall what my best time was, but since I'm in the early stages of practice, it may very well change anyway.
