2017 Christmas Special

Grid/server capacity: 22

RACE TWO (The Sixties)

Track: 1960's Oulton Park International Circuit Download this

Cars allowed: Jaguar E-Type (RHD Roadster)
UKGTL Drivers will use standard Car #851, NoGrip Drivers will use Car #43 which can be obtained here
All drivers will need to download Car #43 even if they are racing in the UKGTL team. This is to avoid loading problems on race night.

Practice:5 mins
Qualifying:10 mins
Race:14 laps

Race 3 will follow with approx. 5 mins to change cars followed by a ten minute qualifying session.

Time of Day Setting: 14:00
Start: STANDING
Tyre wear: Normal
Fuel consumption: Normal

Server: simracing.org.uk XMAS
Password: see above

Notes:
(1) It's best if all drivers can make sure they are connected before the Qualifying session as drivers on track during qualifying will not see cars that join after they are on track until they go back to the garage.
(2) Please make sure you are fully aware of the SimRacing.org.uk Rules.
(3) The AI control should be turned off so that you have control of the car at all times, including pitting. Your player file should therefore read
Autopit="0"
Force Autopit Off="1" // Forces autopit always off
No AI Control="1" // AI never has control over car
If you still finding pitting problematic, experience tells us that its less to do with positioning and more to do with approach speed. A slow approach to pit crew chief has proved most reliable.

Special Notes: Avoid going off at Knickerbrook. There is a hole in the surface that you may fall into. Also avoid the RH side of the track by the first tree on the RH side after the pit lane exit. There is an invisible obstacle there.

OK, so the E-type is not my favourite car, but Oulton Park I do like.

Once again the tentacle waving aliens up front were in a different league, but I was reasonably happy with 5th on the grid.........until.

Just as the countdown got to "2" the screen froze momentarily  helpsmilie and I thought that I was about to be booted by my PC. Then suddenly it was back, just as the "GO" flashed up and in the excitement I stalled the engine  Undecided Undecided I tensed waiting to be hit from behind and just when I thought I had got away with it  some poor soul got up close and personal with my rear end.
The re arrangement of the rear suspension geometry did nothing to improve my opinion of the E-type and apologies to those around me who had to deal with a wild and unpredictable competitor.
Maybe the momentary freeze on the grid was a warning, because a few laps into the race it happened properly, well sort of properly. Rather strangely GTL froze and instantly put me back in my pit garage with a frozen screen/PC. I had to switch off at the wall and reboot whilst I waited for Road America.
Now feeling quite frustrated with my evening, and my PC.

Was quite disappointed in the end with this one. Had seen 1:45's in practice but couldn't get out of the 1:46's in Qualifying.

Was behind Clive on the grid and lost all momentum when he didn't move at the flag  so had to take evasive action avoiding him which lost me several spots by T1. Then it got worse as I got onto the gas a bit too early exiting the turn in an attempt not to lose any more places and spun into the barrier on the inside so re joined with only the recovering Clive still behind.

From then on it was a bit of a damage limitation exercise, managed to pick up places due to others misfortune and finally finished higher up the order than I'd started so a bit of a result in the end.

John.
