Moderator's Report

A second win in two races for John Hammonds, closely followed by Bastian Grupp in second spot. Dave Ranier rounded the podium.

Just a couple of incidents reported this round involving the same drivers. Time to dust off the moderator's cap once again.

Server replay time: 0h05m45s

Billy Nobrakes loses the back end of the Brabham on the approach to Nouveau Monde and clouts the tyres. Dave Curtis follows in sympathy and hits Bill. Given that Bill was obstructing part of the circuit and it's especially difficult to avoid stricken cars at the hairpin this can be put down to a racing incident.

  • Racing incident

Server replay time: 0h06m03s

Once recovering from the escapades of Nouveau Monde, Dave Curtis, still following Billy Nobrakes, gets caught out by Bill's braking at the next corner and hits the back of the Brabham. Though Bill was slightly cautious on the brakes this lap, understandably having just recovered from the previous corner, Dave could have exercised more caution to avoid the collision. A simple rear end shunt will be applied for this incident.

Season 32 Privateers Trophy – Round 2 - Rouen

The second race in the Privateers trophy series takes us to Rouen in France.  From its opening in 1950, Rouen-Les-Essarts was recognized as one of Europe's finest circuits, with modern pits, a wide track, and spectator grandstands. The circuit (which ran on public roads) had a few medium straights, a cobbled hairpin turn (Nouveau Monde) at the southernmost tip, and a few blind corners through a wooded hillside. The appeal was greatly enhanced by the climb from Nouveau Monde at 56 metres to Gresil at 149 metres.

Note the Privateers division is run on Intermediate damage settings. Drivers are permitted 1 Shift R followed by a Stop & Go in the pit lane within 2 laps. Failure to make a stop will result in a 30 second time penalty. If you require a stop & go on the final lap & are unable to complete a time penalty of 15 secs is added.

As Phil is absent, the server will be UKGPL_8 for the Privateers Wink

I do not think that I will be back home in time to race. It is a shame because I was hoping to better my last result at Rouen.

It was nice to have a quiet run through the French countryside with no spectacular drama for a change. I traded places with Alain a couple of times but he was clearly faster. Apart from that and being overtaken late by Dave Curtis, it was a pretty lonely drive.

I have a really annoying habit of pressing Escape instead of Shift R. Hopefully I am getting my bad luck out of the wy at the beginning of the season.
On the plus side Cookies server connection seemed to run quite smoothly.

Well, I feel like I rather stole that one. Spent most of the race stalking Bastian, was able to make up ground in a few places but was losing it all again into the hairpin. I had almost resigned myself to 2nd place when I suddenly found him climbing over the tyres in the hairpin and it was the only invitation I needed. I was wringing the Brabham's neck down the long straight concentrating on a fast exit off the right hander leading onto it in an attempt not to let him get into my slipstream and it seemed to pay off. Those who were lapped did a fantastic job, and didn't interrupt our progress at all.  I've never won 2 races on the bounce before so I'm in somewhat uncharted territory at the moment and waiting for my bubble to burst in spectacular fashion which it probably will at Road America, but for the moment I'm making the most of my good fortune.

Thanks for the race all.

I've done the same myself more than once so now I take the precaution of covering the ESC key with a bottle top or similar.
Not that I've had to do that this season since I seem stuck with the 100051 network Error message when trying to join the server.
Coupled with the fact that I have to go through a 5 minute routine of uninstalling and reinstalling software and drivers to get my G25 recognized everytime I fire up GPL, I'm beginning to think it's time to hang up my racing goggles.
Maybe I'll get my fix from Project Cars 2 which now has some historical track layouts including Silverstone, Rouen and Hockenheim as well as the 67 Lotus 49 and 51

That's not right. What system specs/OS you running?

Michael, sorry to hear about your continuing problems. They sound quite unusual. Dean, Cookie & others might be able to help but is beyond me. Have you tried a reinstall of GPL & GEM? GPL is a high maintenance game, it seems every Windows update messes something up which takes lots of tinkering to recover. If it wasn't such an addictive game I would have quit on several occasions.

It is probably the Logitech profiler that is causing the problems.  You need to manually create a profile for GPL and make sure that is selected when you start GPL.  I have Project Cars and Assetto Corsa on my PC.  When I run them they interact with the profiler to select their own profile.  GPL is too old to do that automatically.

Hi again
Basic specs W10 64 home; i7 5820; GTX980ti; 100MB cable broadband. All software is on SSDs

I do have a profile for GPL set up in the Profiler which is launched prior to starting

The procedure I have to follow now is uninstall and then reinstall the Profiler software, then update USB drivers as per the following guidance
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SV0kYPRLboE

The network error message that I'm getting I don't recall seeing before - at least not since the days of dial up
I've checked the firewall settings which have the requisite ticks against GPL

I haven't tried a reinstall yet and am a bit reluctant to do that as everything else in GPL is OK  (works fine offline) apart from the network problem. Maybe on another server it will be OK as some of the works drivers seem to be having similar problems

Michael these are pretty dumb things but sometimes that works with GPL.
Have you tried connecting to one of the practice servers from IGOR. Not necessarily a GPL one? That will highlight vif it is a server issue. The Privateers ran on cookies ukgpl8 server at Rouen. Its always been solid for me. For the G25 are you using a download program or direct from the disc? Last time I had issues I used the original disc.

Hi Billy
I'm using the latest Logitech software downloaded from their site (lgs510_x64). I've tried various previous versions without success but not, as far as I can remember, the one on the disk. I've also tried several different compatibility settings.
I'm not too bothered now about the G25 problem as I only turn to GPL once a fortnight for the UKGPL race and the procedure described above provides a reliable fix.

I'll try some of the other servers as suggested. Presumably UKGPL8 is new this season.
