Season 32 Sports Car Trophy – Round 4 -  Monza 1000km

The 4th round of the Sport Car Trophy will take place at Monza 1000km the original track layout they used in 1967.
The chicanes were necessary to prevent the big bangers from flying   Shocked

For the drivers with weaker PC power, use the "mnz1000k Lite addon"




Race List =  IGOR
Server = UKGPL_8
IP Address = look at IGOR
Race date = 14-11-2017
GPL mod = 67GT
60fps patch used = 60fpsV1
Track = mnz1000k
Qualification = 20:45  UK time -> 45min
Race = race starts at ~21:30 UK time
Race length = ~50 min -> 16 laps
Damage Model = Int (with 1x shift+r allowed, followed by a stop+go.)

Only reported incidents will be moderated, there is no Red Zone.

Handicapping and chassis allocation.
This season the Sports Car Trophy will be using a token system which allows drivers to purchase any chassis of their choice for a given number of tokens as published on the championship standings page. Drivers classed as Amateurs will be allocated an additional 10 tokens.  The token allocation will not be managed in SRou this season so (unlike the 67F1 Works and 67F1 Privateer divisions) the tokens available to each driver will not appear in the championship table (when the mouse pointer is hovered over the driver's total).  Rather, the available tokens will be published in the race announcement.  See below.

Odds are I'll be MIA yet again for a sportscar round as I get my younger lad bedded down in on-campus residence at Ryerson.  Sigh...

Seems I'll be able to make the round after all.  Got the young lad into Ryerson rez without a hitch yesterday.  However, my vision has been very, very bad over the last week...I have a new restasis eye drop kit on order which I hope to pick up later this morning; this stuff worked wonders for me but I ended my restasis programme some six weeks ago and have been on maintenance drops since; they're of good quality but just not up to the job, I'm afraid...so I'll trundle around at the back and try not to get in anyone's way.

Congrats Tim and Axel! That's a shame your engine failed, Axel.

That went extremely well. I was a little shaky the first few turns, but after that it was fairly smooth sailing. Except, I had a moment lapping Dave. The slipstream was a little stronger than I was expecting. Thanks to his cool head and steady driving, I was able to slide past him unscathed. Smiley

Axel had the record on my computer at 2:48.01. I thought it was going to be a real battle when I saw him take the Chap 2F. I thought I could break that record but I didn't think I would race so much faster than Axel.

I had to do some fuel saving. It seems like I was using a little more fuel than I did while training. I could have ran the tank dry if I had wanted.

That wasn't a bad choice of car Tim. It's the 3rd car I could break 2:48. It braked better than the Mk4 and I think it handles a little better. I was only 0.1 seconds slower in training with it and I didn't test it much. I thought my pace would be almost identical between the two cars with the 2B being a tiny bit slower and a bit easier. I stuck with what I've been driving so much lately.

The 2B was closer to the Mk4 at this track than any of the season's previous tracks. I was also closer to my training time than I've been this season.

It was good to see Sam again. It's a shame Tristan didn't make it this time. And I hope your eyes are doing better Doni.

I've loaded the chassis the drivers used into the token calculator spreadsheet.  For the next race the available tokens will be as declared in the table below (the table will also appear in the next race announcement).  The calculated values are automated but selecting the cars is a manual process so please check your tokens to make sure I haven't made a silly error.  There was no token overspend for this round so no one is disqualified.

I was well off the pace in this race and if my lack of speed wasn't enough I had a couple of occurrences of the brake bug.  Well at least I think I did.  Ended up in the cones at one of the chicanes a couple of times.  First time I think it damaged my engine because the old MkIIb couldn't pull third gear after that so I had to do a shift-R and S&G.  The second time I hit the cones the engine died completely, so had to retire there and then.  Luckily just managed to make half distance so I have now scored in every round.  I think I'm starting a new competition, achieving the lowest number of points whilst still finishing every race  Roll Eyes

Very funny race for me, yesterday.

There was 2 friends of mine at home yesterday evening, and of course I planned to not race at Monza !
But my friends said "could U show us how you're playing with your steering wheel ?"
I said "OK, I will drive only  one lap just to show you" 
But they answered, "No, no, it's very funny ! go, go, go continue and try to overtake this car (it was Phil's car) and then this one (Doni's car)"

so I did all the races with 2 very motivated supporters in my back, pushing me as strong they can, and shouting as loud they can.
Not sure, I could have finished the race in mod 67 or on Nurburgring track but in Monza it was OK.

Maybe, one of these days, we will see 2 new drivers on UKGPL ?

My race was indifferent in the end.
I'm happy with my out right pace, given the effort Greg has been putting into the mod recently I felt that my qualifying and race laps were 'fast enough' not to have embarrased myself.

However I made a glaring error at the start when I failed to pull in front of Axel while I still could which gave him 2nd on the run into Curve Grande.
Later in the same lap I had 2 scary moments into the chicanes.
The first was caused by a drop in frame rates just as I was trying to spot my brake marker for the 1st chicane (Carlos Disco'd and the message caused the stutters). The 2nd time I thought I'd slowed early enough to give Axel space given I felt his braking was poorer than mine.
I didn't give him enough and ended up firing up the inside - this resulted in a slight bump so I pulled over and waved him back through. Only looking at the replay I had so much overlap (100% pretty much) that it actually turned out to have been a legitimate pass!

As a result of the contact I was a bit flustered and made a series of mistakes. I think I dropped as low as 5th before pulling myself together again.

It was only through pure bad luck on Axels part that I ended up re-gaining 2nd as he had some sort of engine problem from the start of the final lap and totally lost his top speed.
I assumed it may have been urgent fuel saving so performed an out braking manoeuvrer into the final chicane while I still had the speed advantage.

Well done to Greg on a solid performance and bad luck Axel.
Congrats to all the finishers as well, Monza 1000km is actually fairly tricky I think.

That used to happen to me but I've fixed it now. No more frame rate problems caused by chat messages.  See here.

It wierd as this has only been an issue since picking up my big shiny nVidia GFX card when in Japan last year and switching to open GL (It runs rubbish in Dx for some reason - the card itself probably exceeds the minimum requirements of the game!  laugh ) - This never happened with my old AMD card on the same PC..

My new rig has a Nvidia 1080 card which should manage GPL graphics comfortably. But I am not convinced that I have my settings quite right. It might be good to see what others are doing? My monitor is a 23" and currently running at 1920x1080x60hz.

Congrats to Greg, Tim and Axel for their podium positions! My race was an interesting one, more to my ineptness than anything  Roll Eyes. Managed to outbrake myself twice at the first chicane and had to reverse back out  Grin, but in the end just about managed to bag 4th place.

I still haven't found a way to drive the big Ford's on the limit. It just feels like driving a boat with my setup (probably weighs as much thinking about it.....). When I saw Tim dance through the chicane I thought, "....yeah, fat chance I can repeat those car acrobatics!" At least I wasn't suffering from the brake bug this round. See you all at the next one.
