Season 32 Sports Car Trophy – Round 5 -  Targa Florio

The 5th round of the Sport Car Trophy we go to Sicily and drive a lap at the Targa Florio.

IMPORTANT

We will do "only" one racing lap, (but the server will show 2) so please be cooperative when a faster car/driver is behind you.
Please start your last qualifying lap with minimum ~ 30min time left!

GPL will shut the quali after ~11min overtiming, even if you are 100m from the finish line!

Race List =  IGOR
Server = UKGPL_8
IP Address = look at IGOR
Race date = 28-11-2017
GPL mod = 67GT
60fps patch used = 60fpsV1
Track = Targa Florio
Qualification = 20:45  UK time -> 45min
Race = race starts at ~21:30 UK time
Race length = ~40 min -> 1 laps
Damage Model = Int for this race no limits, shift+r! (with 1x shift+r allowed, followed by a stop+go.)
Replay = here

Driver lists and divisional rules can be found on the championship standings page

Only reported incidents will be moderated, there is no Red Zone.

Handicapping and chassis allocation.
This season the Sports Car Trophy will be using a token system which allows drivers to purchase any chassis of their choice for a given number of tokens as published on the championship standings page. Drivers classed as Amateurs will be allocated an additional 10 tokens.  The token allocation will not be managed in SRou this season so (unlike the 67F1 Works and 67F1 Privateer divisions) the tokens available to each driver will not appear in the championship table (when the mouse pointer is hovered over the driver's total).  Rather, the available tokens will be published in the race announcement.  See below.

Available Tokens:
Note: These are the tokens available to each driver before the 10 tokens are added for making the race start.

...1x shift+r allowed, followed by a stop+go...

That's not really viable here.

Maybe we could stop and make the stop and go just near a house on the road ?

and what about this rule : Drivers must complete 50% race distance to score  ?

OMG this is the Targa...

For me it is ok to not limit the shift + r for Amateurs, but I think once is ok for Pros.

It's not the 1x shift-r (for pros only; unlimited for ams, fine by me), it's what do we do about the s&g?

Stopping beside the track is not equivalent, as there's no slowing down to get into pitlane like there normally would be. Can we agree on a flat +30 secs penalty per? Though that is more than a s&g at any other track would cost, for a one-off event like Targa, I think it's a reasonable compromise.

There is a rule to add 15 sec if you make a reset in the last lap...

So one-off rule for this round: "No s&g's, 15 secs added per shift-r"?

It is the only way to do it.  As Axel has pointed out, the rule under "Failing to take a S&G after a Shift-R" (which states 15 sec to be added for a missed S&G) covers this scenario anyway.

It is pretty unusual to have more than 1 Shift-R on a normal track.  But at the Targa is not a normal track!!

That's how I'd vote. It would be nice if everybody could complete a lap no matter how many resets it might take.

Well, that sucked.

Was going ok with whoever was in the white ford, I goofed, gave them the place, they goofed, gave it back, then came across Cookie sideways and all went to shit.

That was me Dean you were battling with in the early stages. I enjoyed that battle with you. In truth I was still desperately trying to learn the track during the race and often used you as a guide ahead. When I went ahead I did feel a bit blind, but a reduced pace allowed me to complete the tour without a shift-r. Towards the end of the lap I was battling with Axel. I was up to third briefly before throwing it away a few turns later  Roll Eyes. Really enjoyed chasing that mighty Chaparral up to the line, even if I couldn't get through.

Congrats to Greg, Tim and Axel for their podium spots, that pace up front was truly admirable!

Grats to the podium and all those who completed the course, wish I could have been one of you.

Joined from Igor intending to take the safe and predictable Porker and survive the race. I don't think I have driven Targa in over 18months and I cannot say that I have ever truly learnt this epic track just maybe some sections are logged in the memory. I definitely have the first couple of miles from the start sorted and am reasonably confident about that long straight section too  Roll Eyes.

Still some gremlins lurking in my new rig it seems.
My first time in the pits had basic graphics and I needed to recalibrate my wheel, plus I had joined with the wrong driver profile. Quit, re joined and set off for a feeler drive to check the setup and gearing. After about 30 seconds ....screen freeze ??!!! with a machine gun like sound track.
Crashed the PC/reboot/ and Igor is corrupted. I have a backup copy of GEM/IGOR ready on the desktop so swapped a fresh copy into place and joined again.
Another 30 seconds down the road and .........screen freeze #2!!!!?? with machine gun again  Undecided
Once again crash/reboot/replace corrupted Igor/ and tried to join again but was just a few seconds too late and was locked out.
TBH I don't think my chances of travelling more than a minute without a screen freeze were slim.

I recall many years ago that several people had freeze issues across GPL and the culprit turned out to be the sound card drivers. When I got my new rig with all of it's power and resources, I turned everything in GPL to max including the sound and patching of car sounds in GEM.
I am going to try turning off the sound patch in Gem and reducing the number of sounds in GPL to around 4-5, ( which worked fine on my old PC) to see if reducing the load on the sound system solves this issue.

Clive it's a shame you have these troubles

You can remove the "carsound patch" from GEM\options as it only works with old 67 F1

W10 has a total different sound engine handling then XP, so imo it has other reasons...

Maybe your firewall is blocking the gplcgt.exe ?

I also suspect this value in the core.ini to be wrong

My race...

Sorry to Dean, when I blocked the road, I just wanted to turn a 90° spin and not reset Roll Eyes

I love the ChapF as my all time favourite car, so I took it  Grin
There is still a lot of guessing for me at the Targa, so I did a more safety drive, but couldn't avoid 2 mistakes...
The second was near the long straight so I had the chance to escape from Sam's GT40, but he gained a lot from the tow on the last straight mile  Cheesy
